It's subtle, and always laced behind another reason, but even Fernando allows his emotions to guide his actions. They're just well hidden behind viable reasons and a clear explanation. The same cannot be said for the rest of the League. "We're not kids anymore, Stone." And by the time they could've amended their relationship, Fernando was no longer a boy. He can still remember the dismissal Cecelia had when confronted about her feelings about Alexander. He had hoped to dash her misgivings but they were both too young to handle it properly. Then there's Stormy Silph. Fernando cares little about her involvement with Stone, mostly because he cares little about her, but that's changed. Still, she's an adult and her mistakes are hers to make. Considering what slim pickings Hoenn has to offer, Alexander isn't the worst choice. Not by a long shot. It's almost aggravating. Although Alexander got what he wanted, only some of that was due to Fernando insistence. Having Stormy promoted to a Gym Leader was more for the League's reputation rather than a favor to Stone.
