Gavin returns Emma's brief glance, an understanding passed between them that even the observant Saoirse will fail to catch. What better than to soothe their aches and pains in preparation of acquiring all new ones on their trip?[break][break]

However, a simple question provokes an unexpected response.[break][break]

Emma clams up and he takes note, wonders but does not wish to pry. Their trust in one another still feels a fragile thing, and he has no desire to break it so soon.[break][break]

"A sore subject?"[break][break]

He questions not to pry, but to establish a sort of boundary between them. Was he allowed to ask personal questions, or was this connection between them too new for that? Had he unintentionally opened an old wound, or was she simply not used to sharing?[break][break]

Emma's gaze is on the mountains, and Gavin leans against the window sill to watch the clouds drift lazily by.

He pries in a way that is so subtle and so bizarre - completely unlike any person she had ever met. He was bold and yet cautious, taking a small step to inquire but not confident enough to come right out and ask.[break][break]

And it's for that reason that she finds she's holding her breath.[break][break]

"Another time."[break][break]

This trip was meant to de-stress, not to dwell on past aches. She swallows, keeping her eyes dead ahead even when he glances at her. Eventually, the two sit in mutual silence watching out the window.[break][break]

"It's beautiful here."

Her answer gives no hint as to the reason for the shift in tone, but Gavin accepts it with a silent dip of his head. He looks back to the scenery of his youth.[break][break]

"It is." This far north, the snow never stops. It drifts past the window in dancing clouds, following the whims of the wind. "It's been a long time since I've seen it. Hasn't changed."[break][break]

He hasn't been home to Galar in almost a decade, and it's strange to be in a place that feels both foreign and familiar. Circhester is, as always, a city unchanging. Its old buildings spoke of rigid history.

Gavin, meanwhile, is an entirely different person than the youth who'd departed this storied city.[break][break]

He watches the mountains a moment longer before turning to Emma, studying her.[break][break]

"Did you want to visit the Bath first, then?"

Something lingers on the tip of her tongue but she doesn't let it slide.[break][break]

'Why did you leave?'[break][break]

But the same question could be asked from her and she herself wasn't willing to open up about it. Too much anger, too much pain.[break][break]

Emma's mesmerized by the falling snow. It's so serene and calm, it's incredibly therapeutic. She's realizing immediately that this is a good idea - getting away, letting go, letting him in.[break][break]

She exhales, drawing close to the man. Her closeness is painfully hesitant as she brushes her hand against his. This is foreign territory despite the familiarity of relationships. [break][break]

As quickly as she reaches out she pulls away so stand beside him, unsure if that was the right move.[break][break]

But the mention of the bath sparks interest and she glances up at him, golden eyes searching.[break][break]

"I have a bit of an appetite, actually."

Something as simple as the brush of her hand sends a shiver of energy through him, and Gavin's not sure he'll ever tire of the feeling. He shifts, ready to reciprocate, but Emma pulls back as quick as she'd approached.[break][break]

He doesn't question her. This is foreign ground, a dance they're learning together.[break][break]

When she mentions appetite, however, Gavin can't help himself. Teeth flash in a lazy, teasing grin.[break][break]

"Of what kind?"

Perhaps there had been an ulterior motive in dismissing his sister so soon after they'd reconnected. They had a hotel room all to themselves, after all, and an insatiable appetite for one another.[break][break]

Gavin steps close, bold, and finds new places to put his hands — exploring, claiming. His muscles still ache with the memory of their last encounter, but that was no hindrance. There were new memories to make, places unmarked.[break][break]

He kisses her, fierce, presses her back to the wall.[break][break]

"We've got time."

She turns as he approaches, a quiet exhale given for every touch she receives. His kiss is biting and leaves a burning sensation in her chest. It's a familiar ache, a passion she had hungered for, had missed.[break][break]

They haven't even had a chance to relax, to take their jackets off. Gavin's remains unzipped and inviting. She moves to peel it over his shoulders and toss it aside. Her free hand is unbuttoning, impatient, willing to do damage despite how nice the shirt is.[break][break]

Her teeth graze his bottom lip, sharp enough to draw blood.

Emma ruins one of his nicest shirts, cuts his lip, and throughout it all, Gavin offers no complaint. He tastes the tang of iron as they kiss, shrugs off the shirt with its torn buttons, and rewards Emma's efforts with his own ferocity.[break][break]

The aftermath is not dissimilar to the in-house brawls arranged by the likes of Abner and Priam. He is left bruised and bloodied, satisfied. He touches a finger to the cut on his lip, which stings from the salt of his skin.[break][break]

After a shower, he only bothers to pull on a fresh pair of pants.[break][break]

He picks up the button-up shirt that had been sacrificed to their lust, scoffs. "This was a tailored shirt, you know." He doesn't sound as upset as the words might've implied. "You'll leave me with nothing to wear."[break][break]

He's sure she wouldn't mind that at all.

He showers before she does, and she spends the time waiting by the window, wrapped in a blanket or towel. Her shoulder leans against the window, her thoughts murky.[break][break]

She glances over her shoulder when he reappears, eyes shamelessly washing over his chest and the marks she's left behind. She bears her own, of course, but they're wrapped in whatever sheets had been on the bed moments before.[break][break]

"My apologies, mon amour. I suppose we'll have to pick up something new."[break][break]

Emma's voice is low, nearly a growl. Her accent is thick in the moment as she slips past him, dropping the sheet to step lightly, brazenly, into the still-steamy shower.[break][break]

She tosses a brief glance, lip pulled back in a smirk.

There's a gleam in his gaze as she affords him with a pet name that purrs under the influence of her accent.[break][break]

"Mon amour," he repeats, returns her smirk with his own. "I like it."[break][break]

He devours her with his eyes as she drops the bed sheet — like a glutton, he is always hungry for more. They will have plenty of time on their trip, however, and he lingers for but a moment longer before leaving her to it.[break][break]

He looks through his suitcase, finds a fitted sweater to replace the shirt they'd ruined. It's more suitable for the chilly Circhester weather, and less likely to become a casualty of their passion. When she emerges from the shower, Emma would find Gavin perusing the complimentary bottle of wine provided with the hotel room. The mark of a high-class establishment, he supposed.[break][break]

"Are you partial to reds?" He looks up from the label. "Or wine in general?"

She leaves the door ajar as she showers, but she's brief and neat, leaving everything the way she found it. Upon returning, she would find something simple an elegant to wear - likely something she'd picked up on the way to the airport. Nice clothing had never been something of interest for her, she wasn't generally a vain person. [break][break]

So she adorns a soft turtleneck and a pair of dark-washed jeans. She's simple but tasteful. [break][break]

Her attention draws back to Gavin when he speaks, her hands are idly squeezing moisture from the ends of her dark hair. [break][break]

"I preferred reds, I supposed - but wine isn't usually my first choice."[break][break]

Emma preferred her liquor as hard as she is, and just as bitter and hard to swallow.

In the time they've lived together, Emma's no doubt become familiar with his own preference thanks to the contents of his liquor cabinet: a particular brand of Galarian scotch, which he drank straight or on the rocks depending on the mood.[break][break]

A pair of wine glasses has been provided with the complimentary bottle, and Gavin goes to the sink to rinse them before pouring himself a glass and tipping the bottle toward the second in a silent question for Emma.[break][break]

"Or, I can always buy you a stronger drink." He smirks, teasing. "I think we skipped that step... and a few others."

Emma smirks because she is aware that wine isn't his preferred drink. His own tastes had rubbed off on her without her realizing.[break][break]

"I like free shit."[break][break]

That, and she could only imagine what his lips might taste like when they'd polished off the bottle. Scotch just didn't have the same taste of fruit. Scotch left your lips numb, and she preferred to feel everything.[break][break]

She approaches as he pours the first glass, but her eyes lift to his teasing smile.[break][break]
