Emma is already annoyed the minute she rolls up. Granted, she could have chosen the simple 1v1 assignment, but she knew how aggressive her Pokemon were and how easily they could overstep and out her as a criminal. She had her fake ID and her charming personality, but the fire in her Pokemon's eyes was hard to put out.[break][break]

Of course, she had decided to bring her Swirlix instead, much to the dismay of Cillian Quinn's Alcremie. Though she wasn't sure the Pokemon was upset about losing its friend for the day or because she herself hadn't been chosen to come along. Regardless, there was a mess at home and Emma had gotten the fuck out of there.[break][break]

And now here she was, signing away safety precautions and liabilities in order to get a badge from some rando in Petalburg city. Wonderful.[break][break]

The shiny Swirlix squirms in her arms, but the expression on the thing is excitement - surprisingly.

[attr="class","witness"]After the competitor, 'Anna' had gotten herself squared away, she'd be led to the starting point where Francie was eagerly waiting-- until Francie caught sight of the grump that was Anna and her really excited swirlix... which might have made Francie bite her lip in an attempt not to giggle.

Too cute!

"Welcome! I'm happy to present you with your challenge, the Petalburg Gym's Maze! The objective is to get to the end of the maze, with me, using only non-damaging moves! Once we cross this white line starting point, the challenge begins! If you step back over the line, then the challenge is forfeit. There's a time limit, so try and be mindful of it while we traverse the maze!"

Taking a side step, to make her way beside Anna instead of in front of her, Franice gives a friendly smile that radiates sunshine and fairy dust, sorry Emma.

"Ready when you are!"

Emma lingers at the starting line. She looks thoroughly annoyed or bored, but one couldn't honestly tell if it that was her actual emotion or just her resting state. Regardless, when Francie appears, the Swirlix in her arms squirms with delight.[break][break]

But Emma regards the grinning girl with indifference. While Francie informs her of the rules, she waits with idle impatience. By that I mean, she sits quietly but she's clearly more apt to just get on with it - she probably has more important things to do. Like day drink.[break][break]

"Then you'd better stay close."[break][break]

It sounds threatening but the thought isn't necessarily intentional. She glances down at the chipper Pokemon in her arms before looking back at Francie. She steps over the white line and gets started on a random path. She was counting on instinct and her Swirlix, or even Francie, to tell her if she was going the wrong way.[break][break]

But she wasn't, because Emma Wolfe doesn't go the wrong way.

Francie had finally become very good at not giving tells one way or the other. As they progressed farther into the maze, Francie was pretty amazed at how good this woman's instincts were. As a matter of fact, she thought perhaps they were like, super powers. But that was probably just Francie's imagination getting the best of her.

As she wound down a particular path, Francie found herself watching the swirlix more than she did the woman. It was cute and pup like, reminded her of the adorable lycanrocs that she had on her own belt.

Down a certain turn, suddenly they were met with two very large pokemon. Rampardos'. A pair, running around and butting heads with one another as a game.

"Welcome to your first obstacle! And probably only, at the rate you're going... ha.... anyway!"

Francie waves toward the two dinos with a grin. Big surprise, Francie's smiling, and there are dinosaurs ramming into each other in the background like a game of head tag.

"Your goal is to pass by them. Damaging moves are still not used. Don't be too scared, they won't run you over, however, they are obligated to stop you from crossing. All three of us must make it over to the other side."

two rampardos block your path...

in order to proceed, you must pass by betty and jughead, the rampardos' pair!
as the writer, you have control over the reactions of these two dinos, keep in mind that they're real rambunctious and basically just typical dinosaurs.
you cannot roll with your next post, your character must make it past the rampardos' first

For the better part of the first half of their trek - or almost, anyway - Emma manages to find her way through the maze without fault. She makes it a point to not look back unless absolutely necessary because looking back could be disorienting.[break][break]

Now, however, she was struck with a complicated obstacle. Two Rampardos showed themselves bashing heads just ahead. They seemed more clumsy and stupid than they did genuinely dangerous. But stupid could result in danger, so she knew better than to charge ahead.[break][break]

That and Francie had told her not to use damaging moves. Once again, she's not sure her Swirlix even know how to fight. [break][break]

Granted, they had do something, and she was aware of the Swirlix's ability to slow down her opponents.[break][break]

"Stay close."[break][break]

The woman's voice comes across as more of a command than a suggestion, and she reaches to grab Francie's hand and pull her along. The last thing she needed was for her to get caught in the cottony mess she was about to make.[break][break]

"Distract them but do not hurt them."[break][break]

At her command, the Swirlix bounces out of her arms and burps what appeared to be an unlaunched ENERGY BALL. It does nothing but humor Francie, maybe.[break][break]

Of course, dinosaurs are only distracted by one another for so long, and they soon pay more attention to the rapid movement of escaping humans than the Swirlix's attempt to be dazzling.[break][break]

Fortunately, just as they turn to trample and body block, the Swirlix sprays their ankles with COTTON SPORES, slowing down their approach. Hopefully it works well enough to slow them down.

Francie's tugged along without much real choice, but that's normal for the gym. She'd been picked up over the shoulders of a guy once, and literally lugged around like his luggage, another guy requested she be like a backpack... yeah, just another day in the life of the maze girl.

The burp of an almost damaging type move has Francie laughing. Usually she excuses things if they're not going to prove to be damaging, but, typically they do. She's thankful that the swirlix opts for cotton spore instead and, it does distract her really ditzy dinos for a bit.

Enough for them to make it across.

"Phew! Great job you two." She smiles down at the swirlix. "Almost broke the rules there, but, saved yourself with a burp. Good on you. It was super duper cute."

Emma's fingers are like a vice as they curl around Francie's wrist, shifting up to hold her elbow. Her mannerisms are rough but her intention is good. Intention being she's going to make it to the end of this maze with the bubbly woman. [break][break]

Only when they are safely across and the Swirlix approaches and bounces into Emma's arms does she look back over her shoulder. She glances briefly at Francie as the woman comments on her Pokemon's almost disqualifying tactic, to which she shoots the tiny cotton-candy Pokemon a look.[break][break]

"Let's keep moving."[break][break]

The woman has since let go of Francie's arm and continued on her way. [break][break]

[attr="class","witness"]Though the grip is tight, Francie doesn't think much of it. Yes, it's uncomfortable. No, she doesn't like it. But Francie was beginning to think that this woman was just, um, intense. About everything... and while Francie wasn't so intense about everything, she could understand that other people weren't necessarily like her.

Not but a few steps after the obstacle, Francie moves in front of Anna and gives a gentle smile.

"Just a second--" and then the floor shook, only enough to indicate that they were suddenly moving down. The floor had become an elevator, and as they lowered, the ceiling slowly closed in on them and the two of them were in total darkness within seconds.

"And here we are! Welcome to the half way point, and um, the real short half way point... but anyway! Make your way through the darkness as well as you can. Status moves only, though if no status moves will help illuminate your path, you are allowed to use a device, if you've got one."

Emma hesitates as Francie steps in front of her, eyebrows raising slightly at her sudden intervention. Was she supposed to lend her aid? Oh. Wait. She isn't being helpful, she's just making it that much more difficult by shrouding them in complete darkness.[break][break]

Thankfully, Emma comes prepared. Working in the dark is literally her specialty, and she grabs a pair of night-vision goggles from her person. Where she'd gotten it from? Unclear and unnoticed because they were in the dark.[break][break]

Francie's frame is highlighted and Emma sighs, realizing that she'd have to hold onto the woman if she planned on getting out of here with Francie.[break][break]

"I'm.. going to need you to hold my hand. I don't need you to go missing."[break][break]

This time, fortunately, Emma has reached out with a little less aggression than before.[break][break]

"And, if you're afraid of the dark, you can hold onto the puffball." [break][break]

[attr="class","witness"]with much excitement, francie takes anna's hand and even scoops up the swirlix into her arms. admittedly, she's not afraid of the dark. but she also feels as if the swilirix may be afraid of the dark, and francie likes snuggles, so it's a win-win.

"oh wow. i don't think anybody had brought in night vision! that's super cool... so high tech."

come to think of it, after this one, she might have to get herself a pair. if they're not overly expensive... she's already put every penny she had saved up into the gym.

which was one of the reasons she was going to be taking part in that challenge tower thing that illeana reyes was telling her about.

They ultimately get nowhere because it turns out there's a malfunction with her equipment that requires her to come to a dead halt and fix it.[break][break]

As such, she's a little more agitated than she wanted to be and frustrated that her gear had been tampered with. It smelled like Alcremie's sweet and creamy candies and residue. Had she been involved?[break][break]

"Yes.. very cool."[break][break]

Emma parrots her comment robotically, not really listening to what she's saying because she's peeling back fabric to wipe away the guck stuck in the lenses.[break][break]

When she puts them back on they're mostly clean, and she heaves a sigh before reaching for Francie again.[break][break]

"C'mon. We're wasting time."[break][break]

[attr="class","witness"]Though Anna is short tempered, so Francie assumed, and overall not very entertained by life in the moment of the gym challenge, Francie somehow manages to find a way to smile. Perhaps because she's got the swirlix in her arms and the adorable thing smells like sweets and happiness.

Or perhaps it's because, in a way, she could see that Anna was very determined and had a drive to finish the maze. She also wasn't worried she wouldn't fail the maze. She had this amazing confidence about her that she would finish the maze because she was a bad boss bitch.

Honestly, it was really intimidating, but Francie found herself learning. Maybe she needed to be a little more bad boss bitch... m-maybe.

Either way, the equipment helped with finding the end. What would appear to be a dead end led to the ground shaking, causing the floor to start rising and the ceiling to open up. As they emerged into the light of Petalburg Gym's battle arena, Francie gave the swirlix a joyful little squeeze before setting him down.

"You've made it! That's the end of the maze challenge. You managed to make it through, even through harsh adversaries and terrain. You showed unwavering faith in yourself to finish."

Though, some of that faith could have been given to your pokemon, but, that's not my place to say.

Francie kept her thoughts to herself before making her way over to a podium, scanning her retina, and turning once she had a Stone Badge in hand to hold it out to Anna.

"Congratulations Anna, you've won yourself the Stone Badge."
