lance and his familiar rattata sit idly by the side of the road, watching people pass by, going about their daily lives. he has a fresh apple in one hand that he takes a bite out of before speaking.

"i don't like this town. it's hot. it's humid. and it's too peaceful. now--" he takes another bite, chewing quickly before continuing. "you might ask: why are we here so fucking often then, lance? honestly, buddy, i don't know."

[attr="class","lancepost"]lance bites a good chunk off the apple and offers it to the rattata. rotta takes it with glee and starts eating, but there is only so much his little rodent-teeth can chomp at one time. it keeps the the rattata occupied for now.

"how's your apple? good?" rotta peers up momentarily and nods. "it better be. that apple cost way too much. we need to leave this town, buddy."

something nudges against his leg and lance turns back and sees a voltorb of all things. he raises an eyebrow and meets its gaze as it peers up with curious eyes. it stares at the apple.

"fine."

lance takes another bite and extends it over to the voltorb. it devours it how it may; lance isn't privy to its biology nor is he particularly interested.

[attr="class","lancepost"]there is only so much apple left to go around and he cannot afford to be giving it away for free. lance takes another bite for himself as he eyes the approaching deino.

"i don't have enough for all four of us. i barely have enough for this chunky boy," he leans down to tap rotta's belly. but the deino looks at him and he swears he can see the sadness in its eyes behind the thick fur that covers it. he sighs, accepting defeat before splitting the apple into two.

"here."

the voltorb and the deino each get a nice hefty slice good enough to last them the evening. rotta, on the other hand, gets nothing, and he lets his frustration be known by biting his trainer's foot.

"stop that. you'll get more food later."

[attr="class","lancepost"]the last hungry pokemon to show up is a porygon2 but by the time it does there's nothing left to give it but air. lance feigns a pout as it approaches and extends a hand out to pat it on its head.

"i'm sorry. this fat bitch here ate the whole thing. can you believe him?"

rotta snaps his SUPER FANGS together, clearly agitated by his trainer's comments. lance recognizes as much and leans down to pat rotta in his head too, doting just as much as he did with the porygon2. it seems to calm the beast for now.

"i have more food if you want to come with. there's no catch. well actually just one catch."

he pulls out a pokeball and catches it.
