The buzz on his hip had him shifting to hold onto the gyarados with his legs, looking at the device with a quirked brow and then beginning to text back. Crazy how it worked in the water. Oh, and the text?[break][break]

aye aye captain [break][break]

Once he pocketed the thing, he gave a nudged to Ara and pointed downward. She changed her direction and went down where he'd pointed, so they could check the ocean floor for anything that might have floated down or landed outside of the ship.[break][break]

Little did he know, it caused a great deal of clampearl to get uneasy, and they began swirling up a collective whirpool, with him dangerously close to the center of it on his way toward the ship.[break][break]

When Ara began struggling, Abner's heartbeat picked up. He gripped the pokemon beneath him hard, and immediately turned to look down at what was causing the issue. A bunch of damn campearls?! REALLY??[break][break]

He was quick to press that red button of panic.

Sirena was showing her a shiny rock she'd picked up -- it was a bit too big to bring back but Skyler ooh'ed and aah'ed over it anyway -- when the device buzzed. Another message so soon? Skyler thought Abner would be keen to go explore the ship. Maybe he needed her help?

When she picked up the device there were no words on the screen, but a red light was flashing on the side.

Skyler's heart immediately went to her throat and she feel dread pool in her stomach. A thousand possible situations went through Skyler's head in the few moments it took her to grab onto the Lapras and motion frantically for the Pokémon to return to the mouth of the cave.

What greeted her only made those feelings solidify into panicked alarm. 'Shit shit shit shit.'

Abner and his Gyarados were stuck in a whirlpool, and it was getting bigger by the second. It was only a moment later that she saw the Clamperl underneath the flurry of sand and debris.

The water was getting agitated and Sirena had to fight against the current not to be pulled into the vortex. Skyler would have to get closer to help Abner though, and risk being sucked in. She couldn't use Sirena's singing in case it made Abner or his Pokémon fall asleep -- a possibly fatal outcome.

Which meant that she had to try and take those Clamperl down and risk their wrath.

She motioned for Sirena to let go, then mimicked an attack. The Lapras would know what to do - they'd gone diving countless times together.

Skyler held on tight as Sirena drifted closer to the growing whirlpool, her mouth glowing with an ICE BEAM directed at the Clamperl.

The second they were swooped into the whirlpool, Abner's throat felt clogged. With anxiety, with... well with fear. This wasn't fun, this was terrifying. Now, being that he's done a lot of dangerous shit and he's had a lot of close calls, he usually rode them out with a 'yolo' personality about him. But this? For whatever reason, it made him feel helpless and like he couldn't control what was going on. Like he was back to being enslaved and he had no say.[break][break]

But this time? He had a fucking say, and he wasn't about to get pistol whipped by some clampearls.[break][break]

As the ice beam seemed to disrupt the whirlpool enough, Abner gripped as tightly to his gyarados as he could, releasing his other three water pokemon he had with him. He was sure to throw them out as they passed by that ice beam, using the current created by the attack to push the pokeballs down and toward the eye of the storm.[break][break]

As the arctovish, vaporeon, and sharpedo emerged, the arcovish was quickly taken into the whirlpool with an ancient groan in its gills. Whirlpool felt nice on him thanks to his

water absorb

ability. Vay was sure to keep herself as evasive to the whirlpool as possible, using an

acid armor

to help herself blend into the water so she could sneak up on the clampearls. While Jaws, the sharpedo, quickly began using

crunch

on any clampearl he saw.[break][break]

Vay helped the lapras' ice beam with her own

aurora beam

to help it along and freeze as many of the clampearls as possible. Any attack caused their clams to shut, and luckily for the vaporeon, her

water absorb

ability helped to keep her nice and healthy in her stealth when the whirlpool did manage to catch her in the currents.

There it was again, the pink scales unmistakable even underwater. Sirena growled fiercely and was about to hit the Gorebyss with an ICE BEAM when, out of nowhere, something slammed into it. The prepared attack died in Sirena's throat as a Sharpedo -- Abner's Sharpedo, Skyler now realized -- just had his fill of the Gorebyss, effectively rendering its threat null.

Even with her arm hurt, Skyler managed enough spite to give whatever was left of the Gorebyss the finger, with both hands. Revenge was a dish best served cold, she thought, or in this case, bloody.

It wasn't until she turned to face the whirlpool again that she noticed that her tank was leaking. 'Son of a-' Fortunately the whirlpool seemed much weaker now that most Clamperl were frozen or taken care of. Sirena managed to hit a last group of them when they turned. There still was a swirl in the water, but Skyler thought that most water Pokémon could traverse it without much difficulty.

So that's what they did. Skyler clamped a hand down on her wound to make sure little to no blood leaked into the water. It would usually be okay, but wild Pokémon had become more aggressive as of late for some reason Skyler couldn't begin to fathom. With her tank slowly losing the oxygen she needed to be underwater, they needed to get out, now.

The journey back to the surface was fast and Skyler immediately took off her mask when she broke the surface of the water. The next words that came out of her mouth were a mixture of sailor slang and deeply heartfelt profanity.

Skyler didn't seem overly concerned by the fact that she'd been injured herself. Instead, she turned to Abner. "Are you hurt?"

Luckily enough, the whirlpool was beginning to break. Each clampearl closing its shell was another help. But the smell of blood must have gotten to Jaws, because suddenly he was bolting from the center of the whirlpool with an

aqua jet

toward a gorebyss, where he thought the source of the blood was coming from. Relentlessly, he

crunched

at the creature to try and find the blood, to eat. It's what he was trained for, after all.[break][break]

While Jaws got his fill of gorebyss, Abner eyed the diver. If the current above was too strong, then they'd need to get the fuck out of there real fast like. Her tank was leaking, she was bleeding, and thankfully he and Ara had gotten out of the whirlpool with a bit of success.[break][break]

A relieved sigh later and Abner was returning the sharpedo, in fear that with his finished snack he'd turn on the bleeding girl. Now, being his background what it was, he knew how to deal with these sort of wounds and he was quickly tearing a part of his suit in an effort to get her wound tied.[break][break]

But his sharpedo wouldn't be the only one in the water if they remained there. Which had him glancing around and returning his arcovish and vaporeon before signaling for the two pokemon to lead them to the sunken ship, where the currents weren't so bad and they'd be able to surface.

Once they finally surfaced, Abner was splayed atop his gyarados with the mask in one hand and his regulator in the other: that thing that gives them air. Her sailor lingo reflected his feelings, which he found a feat, because it was rare he felt much of anything that other people felt.[break][break]

"I'm fine. Never fucking doing this again, but, fine."[break][break]

Getting up into a sitting position on his dragon, he looked at the girl in the water with a quizzical brow and a skeptical expression. [break][break]

"But what about you? You're not lookin' too hot there, Cap."

Skyler frowned down at her wound, now stinging like hell due to the salt water, and shrugged. "I'll survive." Then, after a small pause. "Fuckin' Gorebyss." There, she felt slightly better.

What worried her the most was the leaking oxygen tank -- her boat was on the other side of the current, so they'd have to figure out a way to get to it without being dragged away. They could always swim around the current, she thought, but that would take them some long hours. The tunnels were out of the question, given that she would run out of air midway through.

"You handled yourself pretty well down there, hotshot." Her eyes found his and she nodded, a new measure of respect in them.
"Now we have to figure out a way to get to the boat. We can always go around the current, but..."

Skyler explained to Abner the downsides to that plan, but nothing else occurred to her, not with her oxygen tank being how it was.

"You can always go back down there," Skyler said, motioning to the water under them. She felt slightly bad that their treasure hunting had been cut short. "The Pokémon were dealt with and you still haven't explored the ship. I won't be able to go with you though."

Her compliments simply rolled off his back, like water from a swanna's wing. He just didn't want to deal the fuck with it all. Like, nope. He's good, thanks. No more underwater adventures again and if he never saw Skyler and her ship again he'd be okay with that yep. For sure.[break][break]

"I have an alakazam, which can get us back to town with a teleport. But I'm not sure how to get you back to your boat."[break][break]

Also, he wasn't sure his alakazam could make the commute, with how far out they were.[break][break]

"Only thing I can figure, is going around. Ara can carry us both, if your lapras is tired."[break][break]

Finally, he sat up to show how unamused he was. His expression was dull and full of 'fuck this shit I'm out.'
