In comparison to his bulky, menacing steel-types, the Alcremie that Gavin sends out onto one of the floating platforms might not seem like much.[break][break]

As they size up the obstacles ahead, however, the fairy-type's cream seems to shimmer and melt in the sun. It solidifies harder than ever, an ACIDIC ARMOR that strengthens her defenses. Gavin smiles fondly at her.[break][break]

Scolipede remains by Katherine's side long after the racecourse finishes, not eager to return to her Pokeball quite yet. And it just so happens that the next task fits her like a glove. Protecting herself sounded easy, and the poison-type was still eager to aid her trainer with these challenges.

The floating platform they stood on top of shook some, but the bug-type steadied her stance and reinforced her defenses with an IRON DEFENSE.

Cotton candy balloons around Emma's Slurpuff, and Gavin is impressed. Alcremie, too, gives her friend an excited cheer.[break][break]

Then cotton candy blooms around Slowbro, and Gavin's downright baffled. Where did it come from? Where would it go? What the hell was this guy's Pokemon on? Gavin makes a mental note to ask about it.[break][break]

For now, Alcremie's ACID ARMOUR continues to increase her strength.[break][break]

Someone else's Pokemon manages to conjure up a barrier of COTTON GUARD, and, in response, Slurpuff combats the challenge with even more sugary sweet defence. Nothing can penetrate their barrier of sugar.[break][break]

Emma raises an eyebrow at the kid, but her lips are pursed in the slightest hint of amusement. She just might be a little bit impressed by the Slowbro's ingenuity.[break][break]

Alcremie reapplies an acid armor and Katherine seems to be holding up as well.[break][break]

And as if on cue, the Scolipede repeats her actions and utilizes IRON DEFENSE for the second time. Her defenses grow further. It's far from enough, however, as those sugary constructs of cotton candy seem much more efficient than what the poison-type could offer. Still, losing isn't an option. She won't be the one to drag them back, that much is certain.

The obstacles began to grow in size and even the water grew upset with these floating platforms. There's no doubt that some water-type was preparing to throw them all off.

[attr="class","dae i"]this feels a bit wrong but dae can't help himself. when his slowbro repeats the same action and PSYCHS UP to cause the mound of cotton candy to grow even larger, dae reaches a hand forward and picks off a small bit before putting it in his mouth. the sugar melts just like regular cotton candy, but it still feels wrong.

"it's not bad."

slowbro turns back with a dumbfounded expression, but to be fair that could very well be his regular expression. dae stays low and prepares to avoid any obstacles that may come their way.

Dae's taste test of the cotton candy reminds Gavin of the first time his Alcremie had hesitantly offered him one of her strawberries. They'd not yet developed the level of trust they had now, and he'd been half afraid the damn Pokemon was going to poison him.[break][break]

Now, he takes a delectable mint from her green-tinted cream and pops it into his mouth.[break][break]

"I don't know how they do it, honestly."[break][break]

The mint crunches between his teeth as Alcremie's ACID ARMOUR finally resolves into its strongest form. She's doing most of the work, honestly, dutifully reflecting obstacles and projectiles away from Gavin as her squishy human trainer picks his way across the floating course.[break][break]

Emma definitely watches the kid eat a portion of the cotton candy cotton guard. Her face depicts her disgust and dismay, but she says nothing. Mostly because she can't prove that he ate Slurpuff's body or his own Slowbro's weird manifestation of candy. She didn't know which was worse.[break][break]

But they remain a virtually unstoppable force as they pick their way through the field. It makes her feel good for that, at least.[break][break]

Slurpuff is over the moon thrilled to be such an asset to the team - Emma often made a point to say otherwise. She was only teasing... probably.[break][break]

Katherine had to give it to her partner.

Soclipede was operating much better than she had first anticipated she would. She was a good choice for this course, but not an excellent one. Regardless, she managed to pull her weight and prove that there wasn't a thing she couldn't handle. Each obstacle she had to face is met by the toughest of armors, built up by three consecutive IRON DEFENSES.

She spares a glance at Dae and quirks a brow at the sight of him eating some of the cotton candy.

It was weird, but she had no complaints. After all, you don't fix what's not broken.

"wanna swap?"

dae holds the fluff of cotton candy out to gavin, eyeing the mint in return. an obstacle swings dae's way but slowbro is quick (or slow) to react. the water-type stands his ground and his boosted defense stops the obstacle in place. dae doesn't even seem to flinch, perhaps too distracted by the prospect of a pokemon mint.

Admittedly, Gavin's intrigued. It's a morbid sort of curiosity, the kind that gets the cat killed in the stories. Gavin's aiming for that sweet satisfaction, and his Alcremie's doing most of the work here anyway, so he shrugs.[break][break]

He plucks another one of the mints with a secret smile of thanks to his bubbly fairy-type, then holds it out to Dae and accepts the cotton candy in return. This could be a stupid idea, honestly, but it hasn't seemed to have any ill effects yet. If Alcremie's candies were fine, and Slurpuff's were fine, Slowbro's... well, who is Gavin kidding? He doesn't have a damn clue.[break][break]

It doesn't stop him from popping the fluffy treat in his mouth, letting it dissolve on his tongue.[break][break]

She remains frowning, leaving creases in her forehead and the corners of her lips as Dae and Gavin indulge in taste testing each other's candy. It's... unsettling, to say the least.[break][break]

More projectiles are thrown at them but Slurpuff's cotton guard manages to absorb the blows. There are a few particles that try to take her head clean off, but she's quick enough to dodge.[break][break]
