"Wooloo? What the hell are those?" she's never seen a wooloo in her life, heard about them. Kind of thing you hear about eavesdropping, but poaching isn't something she's ever been into. Not her style. At least she's pretty sure it's the kind of thing poachers go after right?

Better not to ask.

Maiya's been eyeing the long walk to the farm and thinking about why she agreed to do this. She doesn't do outskirts, doesn't do not crowded. She likes places you can get lost in and people can see your face clear as day out here. She likes fluffy creatures though and she's secretly excited enough to turn into a mareep herself to see them. It makes agreeing to this whole protection detail thing worth it.

luckily, the faint outline of the farm up ahead saves him the trouble of having to pull out his phone to show her. the fence comes into sight, and he's leading her towards where he thinks the pokemon pens are. and sure enough, the wooloo pen is the first one he finds.

Round cotton candy? She gets to find out first hand just how true that is when they come close to the pen. It's a whole flock of the precious, fluffy little creatures. Maiya draws in a breath looking at them. She makes her decision quick.

She wants to hug them.

The little creature's already making a mad dash for the fence, she climbs like she was raised by aipoms and if he doesn't get a hold of her before she makes it over he won't be protecting them from like of hungry pokemon and thieves. He'll be trying to pry little miss Maiya off the back of one of them.

[attr="class","lance i"]reflex prompts him to raise a hand to try and grab her before she can dash over the fence, but he stops himself, knowing that no harm can come from it. plus, it's a little amusing to watch one of the wooloo get tackled into a hug.

"don't be too rough with them, thompson."

they are valuable pokemon, after all, and like most valuable things, the wooloo are fragile. so far, there's nothing out of the ordinary except for what's happening in the pen.

She's not listening, selective hearing and all that. She's more interested in the adorable sounds of the wooloo as she finds one just big enough but also short enough for her to cling to.

"Holy shit they really are like cotton candy!"

The pokemon bleats at her noise making but she doesn't really pay attention. Maiya is far too content with burying her face in the pokemon's wool. Little fingers curl into fistfuls of the stuff but she's not harsh with the pokemon. Perhaps that's why this particular wooloo seems okay with allowing it. At least for now.

Maiya has quickly forgotten what they are here for.

[attr="class","lance i"]it's an endearing sight, one that reminds him of simpler times. she manages to find a willing wooloo and sticks to it much like melted cotton candy would. as much as he's enjoying the moment, he remembers what they're here for.

"focus up, thompson. they might be attacked today, remember?"

at that, he gazes around the area, particularly at the farm house, because it's slightly odd that no one has come out to greet them yet. they weren't being quiet in the slightest, not at all.

"the brief also said thieves, yeah?"

She's lost in the fluffy wool. In the sweet embrace of softness and comfort and the gentle inquires of the pokemon as if it were asking her what she was doing. It's hard to say she even really hears him and she only raises her head for a second. "Thieves and thing that'll eat them!"

Her face is back in the wool where it stays despite her elder's alarm. She's too consumed with the rare find to be worried about whatever he's weirded out by.

At least she's not stupid enough to realize the cries of a few of the outliers of the flock are suddenly a little off, like something in the house or around it spooked them. "You're too worried Mister, everything looks fine." Maiya plays dumb but turns her head in the direction of the building anyway. Her far hand moves for a pokeball.

[attr="class","lance i"]thieves and things that'll eat them. how coincidental that it might very well be both of them, as nearby bushes rustle with movement. he narrows his eyes, peering across the pen.

"am i too worried?" because things do not look fine. he reaches a hand for a pokeball and calls out his porygon 2. "do your thing, jelmo." the porygon 2 starts its TRACE, buzzing four times after it scans the vicinity.

"there are four of th—" before he even has a chance to finish his warning, four lycanroc charge out from the bushes, and charge straight at the wooloo.

The flock begins to scatter. "Safeguard, Smog."

The first pokeball she throws produces her nintetales, the fox on alert but calm. She stands ready before her trainer as a series of safeguards course through the flock. The barriers settle into place around the furry creatures as seek the far sides of their pen.

Next is the small lizard pokemon, it clings to the ground, belly low as its maw opens. The smog starts small, like a leak and quickly grows to consume the area, filling the pen and obscuring the flock from view. Them too, which is the real point. Maiya stays close by her ninetales, safe from the poisonous haze beneath the barrier.

The lycanroc howl through the haze.

[attr="class","lance i"]the scene dissolves into controlled chaos around them. for moments, he stops to observe how the cadet reacts to the situation, and it almost surprises him how coordinated she seems to be with her orders. she controls the situation well, fending off the four lycanroc for now.

"you got this, thompson?"

regardless of her answer, jelmo's trace copies keen eye, allowing it to find purchase with an accurate zap cannon that paralyzes one of the lycanroc. it buzzes forward, looking to assist maiya.

lance approaches the farm house.

"What's it look like?" Smog. Duh. Not that she says it out loud but she knows that's all he can really see. Probably hears a lot more, bleating sheep pokemon scurrying about, the cry of a paralyzed wolf, the thudding feet of the other three. It takes them effort to find them in the poisonous smog that will drain their health with enough time.

Orchid's already scurried away from her, Maiya can hear her hissing in the distance. "Venoshock." moments later another lycanroc finds itself drenched in a venmous liquid. It's cries make her clench her jaw but she smiles at the lizard when it returns to her anyway.

Two down, two to go, she and the ninetales wait and listen.

[attr="class","lance i"]maiya's confidence is appreciated in the moment. it makes him feel better about leaving the situation outside to her, and allows him to focus on the situation inside the house. even from outside, he can hear the commotion through the door.

while maiya continues to handle the situation in the SMOG, jelmo the porygon 2 decides to use the knowledge it downloaded off the internet earlier to become a wooloo herder. it beeps and boops, herding the wooloo away from danger.

while some would have just kicked the door down, lance decides to twist the handle and open it like a regular person. inside is a man in overalls being pushed around by a much larger man dressed in black. how typical. lance wastes no time to close the distance.

The beeping and booping of the porygon seems to begin reigning the wooloo in. Maiya finds it a little disruptive but makes no move to put a stop to the pokemon's activity. If anything the slanit seems interested in trying her hand. Soon the little creature is hissing in much the same manner the pokemon is beeping. The wooloo seem willing to comply.

Until the rock tomb erupts above the gathering wooloo, "Disable! the attack is cut short but it doesn't change the fact that several rocks and stones have not only split the herd in two but a pair of the wooloo have become easy pickings for wolves, now half buried beneath the rocks.

Maiya runs through the smog, her fox on her heels. She's quite to begin working at the stones, trying to free the pokemon before the other wolf can arrive.

It's not long, they seem to have followed the sounds through the poisonous clouds.
