One of Florian's first destinations upon moving to Hoenn full-time was a familiar daycare in Lilycove.[break][break]

He hadn't told Avery he was moving, had wanted to surprise his long-time pen pal with a visit. It's not until he's standing at her doorstep that he considers the possibility she's not here. Popplio squirms in his grasp, wanting to be put down.[break][break]

"Last time I put you down, you ran off on me," he reminds her, firm but fond. She's grown since he'd adopted her from Avery as a tiny, newly hatched thing.[break][break]

He knocks on the door, beaming. At his feet, a Sylveon purrs and nudges against his leg.

Avery is preoccupied tending a garden outside when the familiar mrrp of her Minccino answers the door. The fluffy Pokemon twines around Florian's legs for a moment, slowing his advance. The door was a push-to-open, likely shifting open at his knock. Or someone else had let him in.[break][break]

Regardless, Avery does a double-take as she gets to her feet to greet her new visitor. It takes her a second longer than it should have for her to recognize the familiar face. [break][break]

"Hello!-- wait, Florian?"[break][break]

Her gloves are shed, left tossed aside and abandoned as she makes a break for it. She is somehow able to avoid stepping on Minccino's tail before tackling the man at her doorstep with an overpowering bear-hug. She's crying, probably.[break][break]

"What are you doing here? This is such a wonderful surprise!"[break][break]

When she pulls back, she realizes she has almost certainly crushed both Florian and his adorable Popplio. Her eyes are wide at first in apology and then in amazement, recognizing the young Pokemon as one from a clutch of eggs some time ago.

Though logic dictates that he could simply push his way inside, Florian's Kalosian-bred manners combined with his own anxieties at intruding upon the personal space of others see him rooted at the doorstep even when the door itself swings open to invite him inside.[break][break]

He's distracted by the appearance of Mincinno, crooning at it and bending down to give it a pat.[break][break]

"Avery!" he greets. "Allo!"[break][break]

Blessedly, he is given ample warning for the hug as she tosses her gloves aside and runs toward him. His brain is given time to calculate before the contact — friend, safety, comfort — before she slams into him with a crushing hug. He returns it with bright laughter, fondly ruffling her hair. Between their embrace, a Popplio squirms and honks its disdain.[break][break]

"I am immigrated!" Grammatical inconsistencies result from speaking his non-native tongue; his Kalosian accent colours the words. "To Verdanturf, just yesterday! You will have to come visit some time, it is a lovely little place — ah, and look who's grown!"[break][break]

He readjusts his grip on the disgruntled Popplio and holds her up for inspection. She looks utterly unamused.[break][break]

"She has been doing so well, Avery! Her singing voice is —" He kisses his fingertips, dramatic, "beautiful."

Avery releases a satisfies sigh as she squeezes against him, completely unaware and later embarrassed upon hearing the indignant honk of the Popplio she had crushed.[break][break]

"Oh my gosh! Florian, this is so exciting! We're neighbours now!"[break][break]

Well, not technically, since she lived in Lilycove city now. And before that, Foretree, but still. Avery was more than happy to come visit him in Verdanturf.[break][break]

But her attention is quickly scooped up by the adorable Pokemon he lifts up to show her. The woman is eager to assist and investigate with her hands, her gentle touch exhibiting her over-excitement. She opts to caress the Popplio's soft ears and tickle beneath her chin, should the Pokemon have allowed.[break][break]

"She's gotten so big and strong!"[break][break]

Avery grins, cheeks flushed with emotion at how wonderful a surprise all of this is.[break][break]

"You didn't tell me you were moving, Florian. This is all such a big surprise, I don't have anything prepared for a housewarming gift. This is terrible!"
