A breathy sigh exited her maw; it had been a while since she had been taken for a swim, what with Doug's terribly busy schedule.

"You might be surprised!" Doug declared boldly all the way from the wrong side of the sand, his voice echoing along the deserted island's coast.

"We were once runner ups at a Beach Biome Contest, ya know?" He boasted, nose high in the air and spine curled far back, looking almost like he would fall off his partner's shoulders.

He wondered what Zac Ramsay was up to nowadays...

"Let's jet." It was a bit disappointing that they hadn't managed to establish a proper base, but they had a better idea of what was going on now.

With a pop, Doug's Orbeetle came out of its ball, its eyes glowing blue in the darkness as its senses detected the danger ahead.

"Not here for a fight, Garo." Doug intoned, the z-crystal embedded into his dogtags glimmering brightly. "Just a stylish exit! Get us outta here!"

It happened in an instant; Yuina and Doug and Daikenki and Higumei and his Orthworm— they all seemed to disappear from sight, the Orbeetle rising in the air before launching out of the structure, phasing through the walls as it beelined it for the exit portal.

The mission was over. For now.

"Time will run out." He said softly. "But when it does?"

Fear, anxiety— they were awful things to live with constantly; the stress was terrible on both the mind and body. It made a person miserable.

The only way he personally knew how to deal with such a thing, was accepting it.

"You'll still be here." He said, gently dragging his hand through her hair. "I'll still be here. Desiree will still be here. And Thomas, and Eris, and everyone. The world will not end, when that day comes. Not Hoenn, and not yours."

He kissed the top of her head.

"It don't sound like much of a consolation, I know. But know that. It won't end then. And we won't abandon you, whatever happens."

And a numb feeling in her hand. Both hands.

A sizzling sound, but one marked by a comforting cool.

Recent wounds visibly receding and disappearing, as if time was being turned back.

And then the wounds were gone, as was the pixie.

Days became weeks, weeks months, then years— It feels like so long ago since anything happened.

The new land they found themselves upon was a cesspit of misery— but it was such dreadfully predictable misery. Nothing changed. The beings that populated the desolate dream were not worth peering into.

Soulless and without a true spark.

The only things worth watching, worth investing, were the 'heroes' of the story.

Their change held meaning. True meaning.

Their misery was real. Each and every agonizing drop of it, slowly squeezed out of them by the passing of time, the ever growing sense of dread.

"How the hell do I make this work...?"

There was an exception to every rule.

"This ain't working."

Her charge rose from his desk, clicking his tongue as he looked between the body stretched across the wooden surface, and the contents of the book on his hand.

"I corpse alone ain't enough... How do I...?"

An excited glee began to fill her as she drew nearer, hanging just over his clueless shoulder.

"Woah there, yer legs fall asleep or somethin'?" He asked innocently.

The self-amused gremlin energy didn't stick around as she turned, his face going lax as he found himself inches away from hers.

His face colored a particular red as she looked at him with those big pretty eyes of hers, the overflowing emotion behind them—

"I-I— Y-you... you don't have to..." He stumbled over his words, face red.

He shook his head, throwing in a big, cocky smile.

"That's cause it is where ya are supposed to be." He said, leaning closer. "Where I'm supposed to be."

His lips hovered over hers, 3 words hanging on the tip of his tongue.

He leaned forward, kissing her gently.

Her laughter rung through the office, and it was so pretty. He didn't want to stop his ministrations— didn't want her to stop her laughter.

His warm breath blew against her neck as she declared her work done, his lips hovering over her nape as he muttered.

"Good." His arms squeezing round her waist, securing her to his lap. "Just... give me a sec."

He peppered the back of her neck with kisses, trying to calm himself down. The pillar was one thing, but he doubted she would appreciate it if he forced her to recall tonight every time she entered her office.

"Your giggles are cute."
