Somehow, Hydreigon did not at all seem interested in its old territory anymore. Megan wasn’t sure why. They had come here officially so her biggest hitter could be home again for a bit, inofficially because she hoped to find more dragons. For all her love of that type, she didn’t really have all that many to her name, after all.

And yet, so far she had not seen any dragons but her own. And that one had mostly hovered at her side as she marched, occasionally bantering – she assumed – with the Arcanine trotting along as their third wheel. These two had an odd kind of relationship, probably borne out of the fact that it had been that fire type that had ultimately done just about the most work capturing the dragon.
Thinking of that night just gave her the shivers – in a good way. “Haaah,” she made as a sound, somewhat loudly, without any meaning behind it. Meg just wanted to let it out on some level. And that was as good one as any, really.

“I heard of Pokemon that can do that,” she replied, thinking of these weird Illumina Pokemon that were kind of happening lately? She hadn’t seen any yet, though. Maybe she should check out one of those egg hatcheries where they were supposed to flock to or something. It was just a rumour so far on her end as well. But she had no reason to think of it as a hoax. To her, making something like that up just made no sense to begin with anyway.

Hence, she just continued on, leading the younger girl for the time being. Well, she kind of just assumed Johanna to be younger, for no real reason other than her seeming a bit more timid than herself. Not like she carbon-dated the other anyway. These sorts of things hardly mattered to Megan to begin with, so she’d never asked in the first place. Probably wouldn’t, anyway. They seemed roughly similar in age, so all was fine. Adults and stuff. “By the way, have you been fine since then? You seemed kind of shaken with the whole distortion stuff. I haven’t run into any of them since, hope you have been unscathed as well. You do look healthy at least.” She laughed, somewhat to herself, after saying that. A joke…maybe. She was not too great with those.

Okay. That, she had not expected. Why exactly was this a desert? She had thought this would be some kind of scenario with like, collapsing buildings and the like, or a dangerous snow storm. But a desert, while hot, was not a calamity like she had understood them. Had she gotten this wrong? Momentarily, she was worried, but there was no point in that. She was here now. They were here now. They had to do this.

Thus, she brought out the other two Pokemon she had for this: her Hydreigon and her Lucario. One was a Pokemon that had been with her for years and one of the first. The other was still relatively recent, yet had kind of captured her drive and imagination with just how awesome it was. Plus, they made a decently good team for this. Having figured that flight would be useful for this challenge, she had made sure to teach the big dragon how to pick up Poochyena without biting or eating it. Which probably was for the best one way or another.

“Well then, I guess we are meant to go over there. Stay sharp, stay cool. Even if things get heated,” she told them and they started moving, Hydreigon hovering overhead, herself at the back and Lucario up front.

Well, they clearly were both kind of bumbling idiots, so she overlooked that odd wording, much as her own had not been taken ill. At the end of the day, these sorts of things were probably not that common to either of them. After all, true social butterflies would likely not get into situations like this. “I guess we both have trouble, um, articulating our intentions,” she replied with a laugh, trying to use the most smart-sounding words she could find on short notice.

Then, she was swept away by their purpose. Flowers. Truth be told, Megan did not care much about those. She was here for the company first and very much foremost. “Hmm, around here? You did want to meet at night so they should be near some light, right? Or do they glow themselves?” Either would just make sense in her opinion and explain why the other had deemed them special enough to be an excuse for their meeting. Megan turned, swiftly, scouting across the beach for the time being. “I think there is something glimmering over there,” she noted, offering the other her hand so they could start towards there. The trainer thought nothing of it. They had done that quite a bit when they first met, so it just felt natural to pull the other along a little, if nothing else.

Ah, wonderful, there her date was. Wait, that wasn’t wonderful! This was way too soon. She was by no means ready just yet! Not that she would have been with more time, obviously. But still, this was too soon. What was she to do?

“Oh. Hi there,” she replied instead. That….was the worst possible way to handle this, wasn’t it? Ugh. This just wasn’t fair. Megan had next to no experience in these kinds of matters, so springing this on her out of the blue (even with a few days warning, of course), that was just….that meant….yes, Johanna would just have to be happy with what she got![break][break]
Yes, that was the way to look at it. She couldn’t do anything wrong since doing anything at all was already more than could be expected of her. Yes, that was it. So, she scratched the back of her head. “Um, sorry about that. I was kind of lost in thought a little,” Megan started, then gave a brief, but genuine little laugh. “I am glad I made it, too. And, well, glad to be invited. Truth be told, I had almost forgotten how that felt. Kind of nice, really.” It had been over a year since her last invitation to just about anything, after all.

She just shrugged. To her, helping out in a situation like this was natural, if one could. Really, why would someone choose not to help others in such a predicament? Maybe she just lacked imagination in that regard. There certainly were callous people in this world, after all. But she never really understood them. “Well, if you ask me, someone had to. And since I could, why wouldn’t I? Must have been the same for you.” Megan was kind of simple in this regard. But she was also quite certain that she was not wrong in this.

She knew this just as well as that the light being shone upon her was helpful. That, too, was just a simple truth, so she leaned into it a little with a bit of a sigh, just letting it happen for the time being. “It certainly was tough, but at least all is under control. Could have been a lot worse, could have been better. Also, I definitely did not pass out. I was just getting a little sleepy is all.” Saying that, she leaned back a little and let out a full-bellied laugh, completely at odds with the situation. “Well, tough chance at getting some sleep anytime soon though. See ya around, stranger.”

Yeah, big chance of her not misunderstanding that. Megan was oblivious to such things by nature. But people had told her that. So, she had become very self-conscious about these sorts of things, especially when it came to things as patient as text. In a proper conversation where she can get distracted in the heat of the moment? Easily missed. But when it was the only text message she’d gotten all week, nay, all month? There was nothing she could do but overthink it. And as such, she just came to the conclusion that this girl she’d met and helped had asked her out on a date.

She had answered with a simple “Sure, will be there,” being the grand poet that she was. Then, she picked out her best skirt and shirt combination – since she did not own flashy clothes, it was pretty much business as usual, but cleaner and less worn out – and set out to meet the other, thinking way more about the meaning of that message than about those crystal flowers that this supposedly was about. It was a secondary thing, partially because she thought that Jo used that as a trigger for a date, not what she intrinsically looked for.

Still, she had come early. Of course she had. This was not something she did often. Megan was more than a bit anxious, in some ways. Hence, Jo would find her pacing back and forth on the beach, way too quickly to just be idly striding, but still just back and forth, being distracted.

Life Dew. She heard that and once more realized that she was kind of lacking in utility Pokemon and the like. Even now, the best she’d had to offer to douse a fire was a bit of dirty water that probably was just as problematic to inhale as the smoke. Her Hydreigon which was her powerhouse and ace in general, would not exactly have helped matters today at all. Something she decided to keep in mind.

But for now, she kept her mouth covered with one hand and helped the others move out with the other. There fortunately were not that many people around at this hour. The place had not been packed, though she still worried about missing anyone, even as fire-fighters appeared on the scene. Naturally, a few of them took over and ushered people out with her. The professionals were around now, which meant that she was allowed to leave, too, coughing up a fit. “If there is anyone left inside, they are probably incapacitated. Tried to get everyone else out,” she told these people in-between coughs, before walking away to the perimeter.
It wasn’t too long before that guy who’d taken charge appeared. “Nah, I am fine-ish. A bit sore of throat. You best ask the fire-fighters and docs. They can probably use the Audino at least.”

“I am known to make those from time to time.” Well, at least she should have been. Not like her manager back in the day would have known. He had always just dismissed her. Sure, some of the ideas she’d had were half-baked at best, but that was where a good manager would have tried to improve upon them, not outright ignore them. But…that was in the past now. In fact, she now had a young woman all but hanging on her lips, even though she had only been like, one year ahead of the other. Funny how that worked sometimes. “But yeah, stopping to worry and starting to simply do things is usually how you best get started. Trust me, took me years to get to that point – “ and punching a man who probably had not deserved that strong a reaction in the face “ – but once I did, I started doing much better right away.”

And frankly, that was what kept her going these days. Not the best of origin stories, but at least it was hers and hers alone in that regard. Sadly though, her subversive tactics had themselves been subverted – just by the other asking her what best to do next. Not that she could fault the girl on that, to be honest. “I am actually not quite sure. But I guess I haven’t heard of those distortions happening right after one another, so we can probably risk getting in and stretching our legs. It will be fine, I guess.”

This was much better. In terms of edibility, this Pokemon looked like a much healthier meal. Instead of an achingly sweet puff of sugar, this was clearly a healthier plant type.

Not that she planned on eating either of them, of course. Emergency rations were a thing, of course. But unlike the Swirlix, she felt a lot better with this one around. Hence, she decided to use her last ball on it. By now, she had almost reached the end of both the path and her time here, so she figured that this was her last encounter. She might as well catch it, she thought. It probably would evolve into a bigger and stronger plant, plant after all. And she didn’t have a lot of grass types so far. This was a good thing, most likely, so she took good aim and released the ball from her hand, already content with her haul this time, hoping to add one more Pokemon regardless.

Phew. This seemed to calm the situation down at least a little. Granted, she still kept a hand in front of her mouth to keep from inhaling too much of something bad. But at the same time, she inwardly exhaled somewhat, feeling like the most immediate danger was over. But not fully. Even she could tell that. Swampert had put out some of the flames, but she felt like there was more somewhere. It still felt too hot in there, though with the muddy water on her, she didn’t sweat as much as she usually would have had.

But she was still a bit frazzled. It took the other man to talk in her direction for her to realize that this was directed at her. “A-yes. I guess I can,” she replied, even though she did not feel very qualified to do anything better than others in here. Still, she did have Swampert clear out some more of the smoke with muddy water towards the exit. It was probably wasteful to use it that way, but she didn’t care about getting stuff dirty or the like. It was better than the people she somewhat gently shoved out getting smoke poisoning as they made their way towards the exit.
