Though she probably should show some professional courtesy, then. “Oh, in that case I should probably disclose that I work at the Rustboro Gym. My boss is around here somewhere, too, probably getting way too much into battles.” She sighed at the end there, feeling like she could talk a bit more freely with someone that probably also knew the man.

That being said though, the system did give them the go-ahead, so that they should naturally do. That man seemed a bit battered, but he was a gym leader. He had to be professional enough about this, of course. “Anyway, let’s do this swiftly and decisively, as is warranted. Then you can rest a bit before your next one, no matter how.” This turned out. But she did not say so.

That being said, though, Lucario would allow the other canine to come at him, and instead prepared a Sword’s Dance so that he could try and snap into a Meteor Mash once the other got close – or just prep for a stronger attack after, if left alone.

Just a few more, then she should be finished. Megan already felt a tinge of exhaustion. Lucario seemed fine. He had been healed substantially, after all. But there were so many battles to be fought here, it simply had to tax the mind as much as it did the body.

But it was far too early to stop, still, so she simply pushed herself further and into the arena. “Hey there, Mister. I am Megan and Lucario here will be your partner’s opponent for the day. Well, for a tiny fraction of the day, one way or another.”

Heh. That was first blood. Well, first damage. She didn’t see any blood fly. Probably why they were using those points instead. Kept things PG, even if people went at it, mostly because fights ended before anything too terrible could happen.

Still though, the opponent was still within range, keeping things to a simple melee. A claw was raised at Lucario and it reacted as it was want to do – by unleashing a strike at Extreme Speed, seeking to once more before it was hit itself.

Something something size was not everything. Obligatory. Aside from that though, it was always satisfying to see a big one like this fall. Sure, Lucario had had to go mega for that, but that just meant that he had become the hero felling the foul beast.

Even if said foul beast had been, well, a Pikachu. That kind of deflated the whole story. But then again, a win was a win, so she high-fived Lucario when it returned from the pitch. “Well then, it’s been fun but the next round probably already waits for both of us. Take care of Tofu, then. And make sure it doesn’t grow an appetite fitting that body.”

The day had come, but was already waning. At least that was how she experienced it. After all, this would be her last match of the day. One way or another. After all, this wasn’t a tournament to truly win. It felt much too focused on chance for that. In that case, just doing as many battles as possible. Or something like that. Law of averages and the like.

Her own luck had not been the best for today. But that was also why she had tried to keep this treat for last. She likewise readied Lucario’s ball, though her expression was bit more…not clouded, but less readable, at the very least.

It was kind of fortunate that this bird liked to come up close and personal. Otherwise they might have struggled after all. They had no choice but to spam Aura Sphere if their opponent had actually taken to keeping their distance. This way though? There was at least a chance.

After Mega-Evolving, they both were apparently winded, but that was good. At least this fight would be properly ended, not just some random VP loss due to not hitting quite as hard as the opponent. It would be good. Hence, Lucario readied his stance and kept an eye on his opponent, remembering a fight much like this one earlier in the day. And just like back then, he prepared himself to welcome the other with a Close Combat.

Well, they had won the intimidation battle. That probably netted them something much akin to an advantage in attack power, if nothing else. But despite being the weaker poser, the Braviary tried its best to come for their throat there.

Naturally, Lucario watched the other approach. After bulking up like that, it was difficult for one to hide their intention, after all. It would attack in some fashion. The only real question was as to how. And even that was limited by the angles of attack it could take.

Lucario did not have to move. It knew that, when the other rushed in his general direction. And Megan knew it too. They both waited for the bird to come close, ready to welcome it with a Close Combat.

The Pikachu was evidently on its last legs there. But it was still going. It did not want to give up. Which was good enough. Not knowing who the other really was, Megan simply felt like this was more akin to a green-horned gym challenger on his first run. At which he was doing decently well, in her opinion.

But that also meant she should treat it like that. Beating her would not earn this guy a badge, but she figured she could at least get him the proper experience. “Well, if they are bringing out the big guns, let’s do the same,” she announced as she activated the mega accessory to match Lucario up better with the giant Pikachu. “Still bigger, but you know what they say about those and falling. Let’s go for speed and try to trip it over,” she ordered, sending her Pokemon to Extreme Speed the enemy.

Hah. Lucario prevailed. For now. But sadly, the other was making a hasty retreat up into the air, leaving some kind of leftover attack to badger Lucario while the steely bird was licking its wounds. Which was always bad when it happened.

Silly flying types. Silly rules that would put a melee fighter against that without any option to switch or such. Megan sighed. It could not be helped. They just had to finish this fight the old-fashioned way.

Which meant having to wait for the bird swooping down again. Until then, Lucario weaved through the drone attacks, utilizing a sword’s dance that it would try to capitalize on when the other was in range again – which meant doing its best to try and dodge the incoming attack from above, when it inevitably happened.

It was falling down. Good, then it got into range. Well, it did so voluntarily, but that was just as well. As long as Lucario could actually get to the opponent, it could do something. That was good enough.

Deciding to try and meet the opponent head-on, Lucario surged towards it, not faltering even when that familiar light did envelop the flying knight. That did not change a bit about the intent, after all, which was to deliver its own barrage of blows, to join in on the mega evolution

Ah. Of course, the flier would just fly away. Megan had no idea how the setup of this tournament would work with those. If she did not have any ranged options, would the flier just win by default if they had one? In a normal match, you usually could do a switch or something at least.

Then again, this tournament had weird rules, it was probably possible to just win by never even getting to the other.

Anyway, they did not exactly have a ton of options, so she did not have to order Lucario to do anything. He would simply hurl an Aura Sphere straight up at the flying knight, while trying to get away from that pesky shadow.

Something like that. Either way, she wasn’t going to try and teach this old dog new tricks. So, instead, she just had Lucario ready itself. “Set up a Sword’s Dance, try to get away in time if possible.” He knew how to do that and would probably manage to get away with a glancing blow or better. That was the usual style.
