after the ultra beast war, hoenn begins to heal. the megalopolan invasion may have failed; however, it is clear there is much more at stake. a prophecy revolving around a cyclical meteoroid, the appearance of necrozma and a dangerous and viral alien threaten the safety of the region once more.

with rocket's new boss, the resurgence and reappearance of the crime syndicate's presence is imminent. the league has done its best to repair its reputation, and with the victory of a war under their belt, perhaps it is enough. but the seeds of distrust have already been sown in the ravaged land of this region, causing many to wonder what will grow?

There's a shift in the entirety of this knew man's body language. It's such an obvious switch that Sam tenses. He's alert now, aware. This one's not really himself and possibly hostile.

The gravekeeper didn't want a repeat of a week prior, when he'd gotten nearly mugged in a surprise attack by some thug trying to rob graves.

"My only destination is self-improvement. I'm neither lost, nor found, for I do not wander. I walk pointedly a path which I carved for myself."

Speaking in riddles wasn't something Sam usually did, but he found it was better to simply mirror whatever an unstable person was doing. In this case, he simply mirrors the vibe being given him.

Unknown to the youth, a sableye had been watching. Shadows hide its form and it waits quietly. The chittering it usually makes is only held back in an attempt to try and remain out of sight. While other ghost types play pranks and demand the spotlight, this one does not. He is golden with emerald eyes, a rarity. He uses the shadows to move around the mountain and watch the youth.

It is his night on watch, and with what he's found, he fades around the shadows to sneak back to his trainer; the gravekeeper, the Ferryman of Mt. Pyre himself.

When the sableye's weight returns to the sexton's back, Sam stops his walking. A small pluck on his back tells him which direction to go. It's a language they've developed over their time together. Sam's back, like a clock. A pluck, a time, a direction.

Not having to walk far, a flashlight isn't even necessary to see what lies ahead. His toxtricity this time serves as his light, walking before him enough that her glow gives off illumination to reveal him through the night.

"Are you lost?"

Sam had definitely thrown up in the bathroom before Alex managed to barrel in and ask what the nickname meant. His head was spinning but otherwise, he just shook his head.

"It's an owl, white noctowl, and you've got white feathers."

He meant hair, bless him. He made his way out and rinsed off his face and rinsed his mouth. He then took Alex' drink, swishing some of the contents and swallowing. To get the taste out of his mouth.

"Thanks, I'm alright. I should probably slow down."

Unless somebody roped him into something, that's exactly what he was going to do.

It irony isn't lost on Sam. He can't help but smile at it. There were in fact coincidences in life and he doubted that Alex was stalking him, which was the solution to why Alex would be there vs. a sheer coincidence.

"I'm a fan of lunatone and solrock, so I was going to go looking for some."

If Alex didn't want to be fussed over, Sam would oblige. He leaned away and stood up, keeping himself alert. His pokémon did the same, absol a bit more on edge than previous.

"Thank you." Respect for the dead over all else, something that could very well get him killed one day. "Infernape, keep it in the same spot, try and disrupt its line of sight. Absol, get a hit in while it's cornered."

Infernape let loose a blazing vortex of fire from her mouth, forming a FIRE SPIN around the gengar mainly to keep it in one spot. As the vortex gave a small opening, abosl gathered energy into her horn and sent it flying toward the gengar with a flick of her head, a NIGHT SLASH cutting through the cave toward the gengar.

Sam moved over to his duskull, scooping up the small sleeping form. Apparently that hypnosis had gotten her too.

Sam had simply warned them of the giant mutant of a mightyena that had been inside. Beyond that, he allowed Rory the lead on the conversations and questions.

As he sat, being tended to, he looked to Rory with questions of his own in his eyes. He didn't ask them, even if he wanted to. If only because he simply wasn't sure what to make of it all. Perhaps he was in shock.

"Thanks again Dr. Mclain, for saving me."

Sam recognized the look for what it was. That wouldn't bode well for them... unless they just finished the fight quickly.

He didn't know of Balder aside from stories and media. Exclusives on gym leaders and the like, granted it was on and off again coverage.

Either way, Sam knew not to mess with somebody like Balder. Not for long. And if he did, he'd need to be smart.

"Finish this quickly."

His own camerupt had been stumped. What a hunk hello, and the trainer was okay too. The camerupt's dull gaze wouldn't distract her, though. Her own expression was one of meditation, summoning the earth to open up in a fissure toward the other camerupt. Wether such a move with such power would hit or not wasn't up to her. But instead up to fate.

Sam was curious and moved closer to inspect it. If his eyesight wasn't still decent for his age, he'd be pulling on glasses and a lab coat to inspect it properly. As it were, he was just a tattooed man leaning forward and looking over the meltan like some sort of nerd. Because he was a nerd.

"Do you know anything else about it? Where it hailed from? What elements cause it to come into being? Do they breed? Or is it a ditto situation? Are they more like the sort that form due to circumstance? I know that's how a great deal of pokémon have come to be."

What a nerd.

The hoothoot reminded Sam of his other fowl, a noctowl. So he had a mild idea of how good their eyesight could be.

The round was called and in favor of the hoothoot. Sam gave a smile to the competitor he was against, as if to say 'good game' as the next round of targets were drawn.

Apollo looked irritated. This small little round brat wasn't about to outshoot him. No, not a chance in any underworld of any mythology or belief.

Once the targets were released and the bell tolled, he threw his wings forward with a RAZOR LEAF, sharp knife like leaves on their way to obliterating targets.

Sam raised his brows. "...are you taking this personally?" He'd asked Apollo, who looked a little too serious for a fun game of target practice.

The krokorok leaving after a thunder move that didn't effect it had Sam raising a brow. Perhaps the punch itself had been enough to make the krokorok uninterested. Either way, Sam jumped when Alex ended up bitten and quickly squatted down to inspect the wound once the deino was in a capsule.

Whimsicott gave a cry and grumble of sorts, which absol silenced with a snort. The whimsicott had fussed apologies and absol had told her to hush while Sam worked.

"It's not bad enough for stitches," Sam encouraged. "But I would favor it for the rest of the day. Do you have a first aid kit? If not, I've one in my bag you can use."

That cackle had Sam tensing. Luckily, his absol's DETECT saved him. She whipped around and let out a small howl to alert the rest. Infernape reacted next, using the cave and her ACROBATICS to push the gengar back and away from the group.

Duskull just slowly levitated back down, and suddenly a hint of ghost energy came out of the shadows and hit the gengar, an ASTONISHing move, to cause the gengar to flinch.

Well, hopefully.

"Keep your guard up, it's behind us. It lured that civilian in here, it's cunning." Sam warned.
