He makes sure she sees him mouth the words

'Don't even try it'

Her last tidbit of information sparks curiosity.

"Oo, teachin' eh? Who's the lucky students?"

Rough around the edges as she was, the betterment of society was something she sought after always. Sometimes that was guidance, others in fire and brimstone.

To Freya's question — Delta shrugs. Not the normal type either, but something that says clearly she didn't want to pick a side.

"Look at that, ye put 'er on the spot." His tone is still playful, but strained, as he reaches inside of the fridge. "Del come away from the giant scary beat and come get a snack, ye?"

Food will never not motivate a Wayland.

Something King can't see pushes Matias forward down this path. He knew deep down that he didn't give a flying Aipom of a fuck about his redemption. There was something more here. He just couldn't place it.

"Wearin' a wire 'er somethin' Matty? Got a hidden camera? We both know my crimes aren't just mine ta bear. Forgettin' that phone call with Eva Morales are we?"

Nevertheless his foot taps in agitation. If he wanted to thread the needle that would piss him off, he was precariously close to doing so.

"Keep 'er name out of yer fuckin' mouth, got me?" The growl in the back of his throat is tempered. "What she needs is 'er Dad ta live ta see 'er grow up. Nothin' more, nothin' less."

King crosses his arms and ankles, left shoulder leaning against the frame of a still open front door.

Watching these two was a gift in it of itself, yet he couldn't shake a feeling. Was sagira mosse okay? He'd like for Delta to see her again.

He wouldn't wish the pain of not seeing one's child on the other woman, no matter what happened between them.

At Freya's use of the ancient tongue King raises an eyebrow.

"Found yerself time ta study another language did ye?"

Delta meanwhile mouths the words silently, hand resting on the golden fur, eyes wide as the Raging Bolts fangs drip with predatory saliva.

The sauropods long neck cranes and twists, burdened by the weight of a small girl, to come face-to-face with Freya. Electricity sparks across the whiskers like an ever so subtle dance.

Delta, on its neck, slowly works her way down the Paradox Pokemon's neck until she lands with an unf on its back. She stands, still smiling, still as stubborn as ever to not speak, and holds her arms open for the Councilwoman.

Behind them both, King smiles.

"Found it in the Chasm and heard it's part dragon. Figured, eh, not really my type. Thought about givin' it to Delta 'ere, but she's a bit ta young fer somethin' like this. 'Sides, I'm holdin' out fer 'er ta be a fightin' type specialist like me."

He still had hope.

"Anyways, it's yers if ye want it."

Matias appeals to King's silent passenger and, at one time, that might've worked.

Now? He could only grumble something akin to a laugh.

"Just cus yer enemy's different doesn't mean the fight is." His eyes fill with the listlessness of being far away. King blinks away the sensation. "But ye, I miss it. Sometimes. Just like I miss stakeouts, sharin' rasions, and all that other shit that only lasts a breath or twa."

His world had been made whole by the gap-toothed smile of a young girl. He'd burn down anything and everything to ensure that little girl's future — League, or Rocket.

"What're ye lookin' fer Matty? Permission? Validation? A reason ta continue? Secret ta happiness?" He blows out along exhale. "I always thought people like us didn't deserve that shit — still don't, not really at least. But I got people that need me ta make it to tamorrow, so, I do my best ta."

If Matias came here for pity than he would be sorely disappointed. Instead, he nearly barks a laugh in the man's face.

"Fight them?" The corner of his lip peels back to reveal a sharpened canine as King raises an eyebrow in incredulity. "Fer what? To what end?"

Glass empty, he places it on the counter and comes around, sitting in a chair at the bar a bit further down the line from Matias.

"Tried that once didn't I? Look where it got me."

He knew Freya wouldn't last long lingering in the unknown and his lips quirk up into an amused grin.

"It's upstairs." Drying his hands on a spare towel he tosses the rag in the face of a sleeping drunk at the bar. "Vick yer in charge."

As they approach the elevator he instead takes a detour, moving towards the stairs instead.

"Elevators down."

It wasn't. But, the last time they'd been alone in one of those he came out with more than the taste of cheap booze on his lips.

After a pain-staking climb, King opens the door and steps in first.

"Oi, get down from there. Yer gonna break yer neck."

In the living room was a long-necked creature with golden fur and black stripes and, hanging from its neck upside down, was none other than Delta. She begins to pout at her father's chastising but, when she spots Freya, her smile widens.
