quietly, dahlia unsheathes herself from the cave's shadow. in place of her formal heels, she wears dirtied white sneakers. each step is soft. almost sad.

even before someone she trusts, dahlia's eyes wander into the periphery. they search for figures, authorities- even though she holds the highest seat.

"thomas, long time no see." she says. "i'm so relieved to see you."

she comes closer with a pokeball held carefully in one hand.

"did you bring any wine?"

the ever present rush of water seems to soften as they speak.

omg, i love this idea! being able to use evan's backstory and world building is gonna be so rewarding. dahlia is an avid reader, and so she would have definitely heard atticus maine evan. in fact, she might have some of his books- so the meeting would definitely be booked.

she'd be curious about his interest in hoenn's history, about why he is interested... and what he may want to pursue. of course, we can set this before the whole dahlia-murder controversy.

we can run with this! see where it goes, and see if any potential conflicts arise too. i'm all for writing with you, endless!

yes please!! that older brother figure is going to be an interesting dynamic, and to have someone to practice his sparring with would be perfect!! they probably have met each other here and there in local fighting tournaments- and so i'm sure noah has had a bunch of suplexes done on him already :pepehands:

yess! i actually tagged you while you were sick- and i'm glad you're feeling okay now, it seems.

in any case, we can say that dahlia and petra have known each other before. dahlia's on the run because yes, she's scared. she feels as if she can't trust anyone, and if she is arrested or seized, that her life may be in danger.

i love that we can use petra's lorekeeper angle to help figure out what has actually happened- and we can definitely explore that together!!

we can hash this out on discord (alongside discussing your research thread, oopsies!).

"i never knew you were such a historian." dahlia laughs, but this is no mockery.

it's charming. how olivia sinks into her grandeur and admiration of times long gone. although dahlia possesses the same interest in digging deep into the past, her time is much too divided. cut by office walls and ticking hands.

"well, hoenn welcomes you with open arms, olivia." dahlia feels as if she can now. as if she can touch her with an empathetic pat of the shoulder. "anyone who says otherwise? well, they can take the next ship out of here."

"if rediscovering your ancestral grounds is what you desire... let me offer my help. what can i do for you, olivia abbiati?"

THAT SAME TV, the tv that the rotom had exorcised itself from before, suddenly changes channels. several drunken party-goers mumble their complaints and reach for the remote. however, their hands stop. breaking news. news flash. the alarming graphics and sensational transitions are enough to draw a musharna from sleep.[break][break][break]

news anchors from the hnn announce the death of justus bosch, the mayor of fortree city. their remarks, although solemn, contain a tinge of passion, as if they had been waiting to officialize such a story through the filter of network television truth. they warn the viewers of the incoming graphic content, and play an edited version of the following footage: a figure that looks like the league commissioner, dahlia goode, infiltrating justus bosch's hospital room and disconnecting him from life support.[break][break][break]

the television blares the whining sound of a heart monitor flat-lining... and the dahlia goode on the screen peers into the security cameras. the heart monitor's alarm suddenly cuts as the news network transitions back to the anchors.[break][break][break]

dahlia goode is in the room. having brought candies and treats to this large hoennian celebration, she expected little drama and tension. wearing her witchy, morgan le fay like costume, her skin pales as if put under a spell. she exclaims, "who is that? i wasn't..." self-consciously, she peers at the other attendees. "i, i have no words." her bodyguards muscle their way in, and grab her protectively, suggesting their exit.[break][break][break]

for now, dahlia relaxes. she has to remind herself that she is away from the office. away from her desk. quietly, she focuses on the clean narration of her counterpart and the delicate clack-clack-clack of her shoes.

as olivia turns inquiry to her, dahlia pushes her soles into the ground with her sneakers. "i've been meaning to ask. of course, we have reports... background checks." she takes a step forth, her skepticism loosening with a welcoming grace.

"but i'd love to hear it from you. personally. why did you come here?"

dahlia grasps the man's arm with her lithe fingers. although they barely wrinkle the fabric of his get-up, a maternal firmness is still expressed in the lean of her body.

"do be careful of stretching yourself too thin. i don't want you to be a stunfisk by the end of this. one thing at a time."

as she returns upright, the commissioner hooks another treat for herself.

"of course! i'll help you with your transition. just give me a call." dahlia says, plopping the fried snack into her mouth as she fishes out a business card. as she chews, she extends it to him between her two fingers. "just be aware... it's a lot of paper work, paper signatures and paper cuts."

dahlia plucks a potato and chomps into its crisp skin. as she speaks, chewing casually in between words, the commissioner becomes the portrait of her previous life. before lars, she forgoes etiquette. forgets the nitpicky thought of the grass stains rubbing into her dress.

"hmmff..." the commissioner chews. "you won't be alone. there are other head rangers that you can seek mentorship from-"

dahlia can not help but take another potato, the grease on her fingers drawn by a cheesy gravity.

"-other head rangers. you won't be alone in this. we've already made the arrangements aside from a few papers you need to sign... so, should you accept," a magic glint, like a diamond, flashes magically from her eye, "you'd start next week, scallywag."

"oh, you know you're more than just qualified." dahlia flips through the reports in her mind, a wet finger shuffling through each thought like printer paper. "give yourself some credit."

the commissioner laughs, crossing her thin leg across the other. among the theatrics and cheer of renaissance, her bestowment of responsibility is cast with a calm nonchalance.

"yes, yes, yes." dahlia reiterates. "hoenn is such a... large region. maybe more unexplored than not, if you consider its oceans. it only makes sense to have more than one overseer. so what do you think?"
