”Listen… We’ll deliver it to whoever it’s supposed to be for, but how about you come with us? If we do it by ourselves, people might get the wrong idea.”

Speaking in the sense of traditional battles, DIG isn’t a very useful move unless facing some very specific opponents. But, Vic isn’t a pro trainer anymore, and the truth is that when working as a ranger, moves like those have a lot of practical uses.

Somewhere nice? On a Ranger’s salary? Does Izzy think Vic is secretly rich or something?

The thought itself makes the man laugh, giving his younger companion a hearty pat on the back. ”Don’t worry, me neither. You don’t have to pay a lot to eat good food, though.”

You just have to know where to go. Which, Vic happens to be surprisingly good at. Although, then again, he’s also the sort of person who isn’t picky at all when it comes to food (or most things, for that matter) and would happily eat just about anything as if it were a gourmet meal.

Is it normal for him to feel so hungry when merely considering what to eat?
[break][break]
Thankfully, Izzy suddenly distracts him from his stomach’s growling (and from the whole conversation) by pointing out a few Snorunt.

He even brings out his phone to take a couple of pictures too, and once that’s done, they finally head down to the bottom of the mountain… and to Lilycove, hopefully, because he really is hungry now.

Nougat is generally a very loving and sweet pokémon, but battles are something he has been trained to do since he was a small Growlithe. They’re something he cares for, something he enjoys, and thus when it comes to battling, he will always be one to put up a fight...

Even when having to face attacks he’s weak to, such as a ROCK SLIDE.
[break][break]
The rocks hurt, and they hurt a lot, but the Arcanine still stands his ground, and he does so by summoning flames that soon surround it.
[break][break]
Vic sighs at the sight, and still, there’s a bright smile upon his face.
[break][break]
”Guess we’re doing this, huh? Alright then… Nougat, Flare Blitz!”
[break][break]
Coated in fire, the Arcanine charges towards the Braviary with every ounce of strength he has left for one final attack.

All that matters is bringing down their opponent before the inevitable recoil.

Enhanced by his use of AGILITY earlier, Nougat’s EXTREME SPEED sure is something to see, so much so that his younger counterpart starts barking excitedly. It makes Vic chuckle, his gaze fixed on the falling pair as they approach the ground.

And CRASH!

A cloud of dust rises, blocking their vision, but within it, the Arcanine stands despite the damage taken from the fall.

To no one’s surprise, both pokémon taking part in this battle seem to be incredibly stubborn, because when the Braviary decides to attack at close range, Nougat counters in exactly the same way…

By using CLOSE COMBAT on his opponent.

”Damn, he can still fly with all that weight? Impressive!” Vic whistles, genuinely surprised, and as he does, he watches the way his Arcanine firmly holds on to the Braviary even as they go up. A single question fills his mind: how to turn this around?

What could they possibly do so Nougat has the advantage even in this situation?

Maybe a move that ensures he lands the first hit…

A way to break the fall…
[break][break]
”Nougat!” Vic calls out to his pokémon the moment the Braviary begins its descent. ”Keep holding on and use Extreme Speed!”
[break][break]
Of course the Arcanine does as told, and still biting firmly upon the Braviary’s wings, it speeds up their fall – making sure the other pokémon can’t escape this.
[break][break]
It also means Nougat will take the damage from the Sky Attack, but it sure is better than free-falling, and he’s no stranger to some recoil.

Call him sentimental, but there was always something really nice about seeing an obvious bond between trainer and pokémon. It was the reason why Vic smiled when hearing Dominic’s story about his Mudbray, his gaze falling upon the pokémon for a moment before turning back towards his fellow ranger.

”Really? That’s sweet, I bet she’ll be a great Mudsdale like her mom one day.”
[break][break]
The mention of Kanto a moment later caught him off-guard, even though it probably shouldn’t have. After all, Vic had been the one who asked, and in the end, it was still a region like any other even if the war had happened…

For the sake of not making things awkward, he chose not to comment on that.

”Years? Damn, I only became one when I moved here a while back. I’m from Unova, but I’ve lived all over… Changes of scenery are nice.” It was part of the reason why he had moved, so he could understand what Dominic meant, but before Vic could even mention as much, he was distracted by the sight of the Passimian and the hat.

There’s something ever so endearing about seeing someone so young on their first day at the job. The nerves, the attempts at being serious and professional, they’re all things Vic knows well. It’s how he probably would have acted if he had joined the rangers at the age of the freshly minted trainee in front of him, but then again, he also has never been a particularly nervous person to begin with…

Serious.” He smiles ever so brightly, words that always seem to spill out a little too fast being soon followed by a joyous laugh at his own lame joke – one that he obviously hadn’t even intended to make on purpose.

The ranger headquarters at Fortree City are not ones Vic is all that familiar with, and yet he has found himself stopping by quite a few times as of late. If he weren’t always so busy, he would pay Alexei Ivanov a visit while at the city, but while the thought does happen to cross his mind as his Dragapult touches down upon one of the infamous rope bridges, this time he also happens to be here because of an appointment.

One he’s slightly late for, but for that he has mostly the strange winter weather to blame.

Snow-bearing clouds in a tropical region like Hoenn? A rarity. A cool one, at that, but one hell of an annoyance when flying!

It’s with a grin that he greets those present when entering the headquarters, Vic himself being clad head to toe in his uniform and wearing the type of blue armband reserved for Elite Rangers. Soon enough a receptionist pointed him towards an awaiting recruit, and he approached them.

Given the way he still smirks playfully while looking at Romeo, probably the latter, so it could really be called a shame that he’s so easily distracted the moment they reach the training grounds. Then again, the freshly-minted ranger is distracted too, and who could blame him when a nearly seven foot tall Arcanine is staring directly at him with that intimidating stare that can make most pokémon fearful?

Most pokémon, and yet not Vic, for the man of purple hair simply laughs at Romeo’s questions.

”Yeah! Don’t worry, you’ll be fine. Nougat’s a sweetie. You got this!”

As if to agree with his statement, the Arcanine barks, but it’s a deep sound that rings loudly through the training grounds.

And then, when Romeo approaches, it barks again, energetically jumping up onto its feet and staring down at him. It wags its tail, but instead of gently sniffing the man’s hand, it pounces.

"Woah! You should be pinning him down, not the other way around."

Clearly, Vic's entertained.

So, when Izzy blushes and looks away, the ranger simply tilts his head and watches him, emerald eyes remaining fixed on the younger man while a smile tugs at his lips.

The moment the Braviary dashes towards Nougat, Vic finds himself smirking. Probably an odd thing to do considering his pokémon is getting attacked, but the reason for it becomes obvious soon enough.
