The report of the dangers that approach Mt. Pyre are all too concerning, and it’s soon enough that a team of rangers is gathered to help protect the mountain’s eerie heights. samuel carter isn’t here, and while a part of him is glad out of concern for his friend’s wellbeing, Vic is well aware that no one knows the mountain better than its caretaker.

They only have Keldeo to help them, but…

”Keldeo, buddy, you okay?” The moment they arrive, it becomes clear that mythical as it may be, the small equine is in out of its depth – too many people and pokémon to protect. So, Vic turns his attention to the rangers that made it to the mountain with him instead, somehow seeming all too filled with self-assurance despite the approaching dangers:

”Alright, everyone! Listen up! Here’s the situation: we have a couple of strong hostile pokémon headed this way to cause trouble, and a whole bunch of trainers and wild ones to protect. We should divide our efforts between evacuating and subduing the threats…” ’Subduing’ is a new word he learned thanks to all the missions he has done as a ranger. Fancy, isn’t it?!

Despite the circumstances, the smile on his face is unwavering as he looks at his colleagues, among them being a couple he has trained himself. Like Lux Defort and CJ Mizikar!

”Evacuating by air is the safest way to go about it, but not the fastest. We can probably get some of the ghosts and psychic types here to float away, though… Oh! CJ! Can I count on you to assist the injured?”

Just as he asks this, the Arcanine that had been standing behind him growls as if to warn him of oncoming danger, and it's the very ground beneath them that shakes a second later. It gives him enough time to ready a pokéball, a Dragapult being summoned with a flash of light just as they hear the desperate cry of a trainer running towards them.

”Woah!” The trainer is being pursued by a huge Krookodile, a roar ringing through the air as if a battle cry. ”Taff! Nougat!” Within an instant, the Dragapult’s PHANTOM FORCE closes the distance, allowing it to get between trainer and Krookodile. The Arcanine acts fast as well, its AGILITY allowing it to swiftly rescue this civilian from being caught in the crossfire. ”Thanks, bud. Take him somewhere safe.”

That means he’ll have to manage without his Arcanine for a bit, but that seems of no concern to Vic…

Snowfall in a tropical place like Hoenn was a rare and unexpected sight, and while Vic enjoyed it thanks to the many memories of Unovan and Galarian winters that came with it, it was also worrisome to him. Most Hoennian pokémon weren’t used to weather like this, and that meant many of them probably wouldn’t adapt well.

There are times when Rangers have to deal with huge and potentially catastrophic issues like Groudon’s rampage at Mt. Chimney last year, but most of the time, their missions are about things like these; simple, ordinary, and yet that deeply affect many lives.

Why was it that he found himself visiting Mt. Pyre time and again as of late?

Not that Vic minded all that much, for there was little that seemed eerie or unsettling about the mountain to him, but it was still kind of strange to think about the fact that every new friend he made seemed to somehow be drawn to this place where so many pokémon had been laid to rest. First Izydor Baranowski, now Dominic Grey.

Good thing Vic didn’t like to dwell on things for long and that he was all too easily distracted.

A great distraction all on its own, so much so that by the time his Charizard touched down upon the shore, all thoughts of the sort lay replaced with those of flying, the cold winter air, and how cool Mt. Pyre looks from the skies.

Experience is the greatest teacher of all, and as it happens, Vic’s life experiences have taught him much about pokémon. Out of all of those lessons, there’s one that perhaps reigns supreme about all: most problems can be solved with food.

As if proof of this, the leader of the Passimian takes the bag of treats from his hands and flees with its group after some victorious shouting, the hat being left abandoned in the bushes.

Vic stares at the spot where the monkeys had been, and inevitably so, a smile creeps onto his lips.

”Call me a negotiator, I guess.” He chuckles too, winking up at Dominic Grey before standing back up. ”Yeah, the hat’s owner should be nearby, I think I can hear them shouting. Let’s go.”

As if it were only natural and as if being friends who have known each other for a long time, Dom earns himself a grin and a hearty pat on the back, because that's just the way Vic is with people he likes.

Dragon specialist as Vic is, he will always be one to appreciate such pokémon when seeing them, especially those belonging to his few favourite species. That being the case, a smile illuminates his expression when seeing the Dragonite interact with the Delibird, finding himself glad that the latter no longer seems upset.

There’s a laugh with those words, for while Pez (as Vic’s Dragonite is called) may sometimes be a handful, he’s also strong and reliable. One of his favourites among all his pokémon.
