It’s not the most amazing kiss in the world, and honestly, she can’t even blame him for it. The position is awkward, the situation is too, he probably didn’t even expect it, and she has a suspicion he isn’t too used to doing things like these.

Still, even if it’s not the most amazing kiss in the world, it’s a great kiss; a nice one, a sweet one, and one that makes her smile even afterwards when he stares at her while being completely flustered.

He’s too fucking cute.

She doesn’t need him to answer, because she knows he did – otherwise the kiss wouldn’t have lasted a small eternity. Is it bad that she wants to kiss him again?

If she were to take her gloves off and put her hands on his cheeks in the same way she is now, Ceri is sure she would feel just how warm he is from how much he’s blushing. It makes her want to take a picture to preserve the moment forever, but she knows that would be cruel and embarrass Elliott even more.

Then again, what she plans to do next will very likely embarrass him too...

Her voice is quiet and soft, a mere whisper as if a secret shared only between them, and yet there’s something playful about the slight smile that tugs at her lips.

Ceri should probably get off of him and help him get up, but instead she finds herself caught up in looking at him; in thinking about how close he is, about how warm he is, about how much she likes being like this with him.

It’s probably incredibly selfish of her, considering that she’s well aware he’s likely in pain and freezing against the ice, but Ceri can be really selfish sometimes.

She chuckles, being so close that the tip of her nose just so gently touches his. Cold. They’re both cold. As if in an attempt to make it better, gloved hands cup his cheeks.

All these changes in their environment, all these strange noises, all these things that had made them feel as if they were slowly going insane… They were all illusions created by the pokémon. For what reason? To defend its territory? Just to mess with them?

There are not many things in this world that are capable of angering Ceri, but the fact that their work would find itself interrupted because of some mischievous fox who wanted to mess with their heads sure is enough to annoy her. ”Aer, poison it.”

Ceri may not be the greatest trainer out there and most of her pokémon may not be meant for combat, but she does know all of them well, and that means she knows just how fast a Crobat can fly. Fast enough to easily catch up with a running Zoroark.

She also knows just how potent their toxins are, and while digging its fangs into its enemy would always be more effective, the CROSS POISON that soon slashes through the air and hits the fox does its job just fine. Being POISONED can be a terrible and painful thing, and it’s exactly what this pokémon deserves trying to mess with them.

It harms it, making it stop all of a sudden as it cries out in pain.

There are many things Ceri isn’t great at, and a lot of them are things he can probably do better than her and teach her about, but is she going to tell him that? Maybe. Maybe one day. Maybe simply because it would be fun even if he tries to get his revenge on her… Maybe for the sole sake of having an excuse to spend more time alone with him…

It’s a nice thought, but there’s no time to think about things like those. There’s something nice about hugging him, about being in his arms, and Ceri enjoys the moment much more than what she’d probably admit – short as it may be.

Failing at things can be frustrating, and Ceri knows that all too well, but shouldn’t failure be expected when he has never even ice skated before? What did he think would happen? It’s not like he’d put on the skates and instantly pull off a triple axel.

It’s hard for her to understand why he’s so frustrated with this, but she decides not to tease him further to make sure he can enjoy the experience at least a little… Until he mentions getting back at her, that is.

While he holds onto her arm, a hand rests on his bicep, and looking up at him, she gives him her best ‘adorable begging puppy pokémon stare’ while also pouting.

”...You’d really do something that mean to me?”

It’s a cheap move and Ceri knows it, but at least she’s quickly distracted from it when he lets go to try to skate a full loop on his own.

She claps her hands together as she watches him, an excited smile illuminating her expression while bright pink hues colour her cheeks when he suddenly grabs onto her waist.

”Eli! You did it!”

As if by impulse, her arms wrap around his neck, pulling him into a hug that causes them to glide back a little.

He sure doesn’t look like it, but pointing it out would probably only frustrate Elliott even more. So, all she can do is stand there and watch as he flails around, falling over and over every time he tries to get up. She considers giving him a “You got this!” but that would probably only sound mocking…

”...You’re so stubborn.” It’s not said reproachingly but with a soft laugh, gently squeezing his hand when he finally takes her offer. Still, pulling him up proves harder than what Ceri imagined it would be, and she ends up having to use both hands to get it done.

”Okay! So… You’re gonna take a step and then just let yourself glide forward, that’s the easiest part of ice skating! You can hold onto me for balance if you want! I promise I won’t laugh at you… too much.” Ceri beams, a giggle escaping her.

How could she not tease him in this kind of situation?

Unlike Elliott, Ceri feels no discomfort in a situation like this. There’s nothing weird about the skates, nothing weird about balancing on the blades, and there’s definitely nothing weird about the way she gracefully glides forward the moment she’s on ice, nor about the way she quickly turns with incredibly ease onto to see him fall spectacularly.

She tries to stop herself from laughing, but in the end it results to be impossible to do this. It’s just too funny, even if she still pusher self to approach, a hand being then offered to him:

It isn’t really and Ceri knows as much, because she had never had a chance to try regular skating until moving to Hoenn, and when she finally tried it, she sucked at it and had fallen like a hundred times. It’s probably what will happen to Elliott now, she also knows that, but knowing sure doesn’t stop her from leading him towards the ice.

”It’s soooo much fun, you’ll see! I used to ice skate all the time back in Circhester, I can teach you.”

The silence is a bit awkward, but even though Ceri would usually be the type to push to keep the conversation going, she doesn’t for a moment. Instead, she focuses on petting the Arcanine and finishing her hot chocolate, only being distracted from her own thoughts and looking at Elliott again when he nudges her.

Brows furrow slightly when hearing his words, and she has to turn in the direction he’s pointing to understand what he means.

Maybe we should spend Christmas together, then.” She says it as a joke and with a laugh that soon turns into a grin, but in reality, Ceri finds herself thinking that that could actually be kind of cute. Much better than spending it binge watching Christmas movies in her room all on her own, at least.

It’s the sort of life Ceri knows nothing of, the kind of thing she has only ever passingly imagined for the hell of it when flipping through magazines. Thinking about it, it’s almost funny how different their paths are, and that out of all things, Rocket is where they meet.

”Woah, that’s crazy! Bet that must get really annoying for you… Although, your parents are probably really proud of how successful you’ve been, right?”

They should be, at least. Why wouldn’t they be? It’s obvious that Elliott works hard, and even though it’s silly and she can’t quite explain it, even she feels kind of proud of him when hearing about all that. It’s admirable, really.

”I can’t believe you won’t even spend Christmas with them, by the way. That’s kind of really sad… Are you gonna send them gifts, at least?”

The thought of all that inevitably leads her to think of how lonely her own holidays will be, and while absentmindedly petting the Arcanine, Ceri looks at the snow instead of looking at him.

”I–… Uhmm… I have a few relatives but we don’t really see each other often.” There’s a slight shrug, feeling somewhat awkward. ”I moved to Hoenn with my mum when I was fifteen. It was just the two of us for a while, and well… she passed away a couple of years ago, so now it’s just me.”

Thankfully, she spares him a comment on how Nidoran are technically venomous, not poisonous, and how the whole “Poison type pokémon” thing is a really annoying debate in academic circles, because if she were to mention something like that she’d just keep on ranting and ranting. Ceri is well aware of how much of a nerd she can be sometimes, alright?

So, instead of ranting, she listens to the way Elliott talks about his home, watching him while drinking her hot chocolate.

”You get pretty busy, huh? You should go home when you can, though. I bet your parents miss you a lot.”

It’s a suggestion and nothing more, one that comes with a soft smile. Since, after all, Ceri knows all too well what that’s like; being busy, not being able to see a parent often and then regretting it…

Ceri grins as if that explanation makes any sense at all, but of course, she could give about a hundred other reasons why Nidoran are just adorable. Then again, she would say the same about her Crobat, Arbok, or even her Muk, so maybe she really isn’t the best judge when it comes to what is “cute”.
