Early winter is not the best season to go berry-picking, at least not when it comes to most berries. Even in Hoenn, where tropical climate rules over the weather, the fields have grown cold, and a delicate layer of frost seems to cover even the smallest blade of grass – as if preserving them forever.

To Ceri, who was born and raised in a city of perpetual frost and snowfall, it’s merely one step closer to what she knows and loves, and there’s nothing short of delight in her voice when arriving at the fields where berries grow even in this weather.

Particular weather for particular berries, their strange effects ever as delightful as their equally strange taste. Combine them with a few other ingredients, shake things up, give the mix to someone, and who knows what’ll happen!

As always, scientific curiosity is what pushes her forward.

Why is it that men are so opposed to being called things like those? It only makes her want to say it more; again and again and again, until he’s blushing too much to even function.

Then again, it could be said that he already is, especially given the way he reacts to her being on top of him. A hesitant look, warm hands on her sides, all while she smiles with the same sweetness as usual.

”Yeah? That’s good…” Decided on making things worse, she shifts so she’s actually on top of him this time; her knees at both his sides as she sits on top of him, straddling him. On the bright side, at least she’s not heavy, but Ceri knows well that’s not what matters here.

What does matter is the way she leans forward, giving him a gentle and quick kiss before pulling away just enough to say what she wants to say, her lips still brushing against his with every syllable said:

She watches the way he pouts, gently biting her lower lip to stop herself from commenting on how much he’s blushing. It’s adorable, even if all his hesitation and struggle makes her incredibly impatient.

What is he trying to tell her?

Perhaps she should have guessed, perhaps she should have seen it coming from miles away, but the truth is that Ceri isn’t used to dealing with guys like Elliott. In fact, by now she doubts there’s anyone quite like him anywhere in the world, although that may just be her biases showing without her even realizing they’re doing so.

”I think I like you.”
[break][break]
Ceri stares at him, but he refuses to look at her, even if what he would see would be her smiling at him.

”Eli…” She shuffles, moving up just enough to gently kiss the tip of his nose. There’s a short giggle. ”You’re so cute.”

That’s probably not the answer he’s looking for, but of course Ceri would want to torment him a little, even if she smiles so very sweetly when doing so. With this plan in mind, she sits up and moves so she's almost completely over Elliott, her hand still on his chest and her bright azure gaze never looking away from him.

It’s a perfect moment.

There’s something about the way he looks at her that makes her feel giddy, feelings fluttering within while her gaze remains fixed on his. It’s not a bad feeling at all, she could get used to it, especially with the way he reaches for her and puts a hand on her cheek.

Does he like her, then? Is that what he’s saying? People often say the things they think others want to hear in order to get what they want. Ceri herself has done it one too many times before, but when coming from Elliott those words sound so very honest and pure...

She hopes they’re honest, at least.

The kiss feels honest too.

When it happens, she leans into it: accepting it, matching it, and reciprocating it. It’s like the one they shared on the ice, but different – better, perhaps. Intoxicating.

The kind of kiss that makes gentle pink hues colour her cheeks, a slight smile tugging at her lips when finally pulling away just enough to take a breath. A hand rests on his chest.

If only for a moment, Ceri considers replying that he is important to her, but even though the thought comes to mind when hearing his joke, she keeps her words to herself. It’s not the time nor the place.

She can easily imagine it, given how whenever she happened to run into him before, he always seemed to be scowling. It’s obvious that he can get easily frustrated with things sometimes, but it’s almost funny to think about it when he acts so differently around her…

Like with how nervous he seems to be now that they’re cuddling, for example. How his heart pounds in his chest; so loud that she can barely hear his words or the movie.

Admittedly, Ceri finds that she really likes that about him.

Despite her teasing and despite the slight smirk that tugs at her lips, the truth is that she can’t help but be curious about it. Eli doesn’t seem like the kind of person who’d enjoy something like modeling, and yet he’s successful at it. It’s kind of amazing, honestly.

Then again, most people probably don’t think that she loves science when meeting her…

It’s a thought that makes her smile as she snuggles up close, enjoying the feeling of being by his side and of his warmth.

She watches the screen instead of looking at him, but she’s still well aware of how close they are and the way he’s playing with her hair. As he runs his fingers through it, he’d probably find it to be incredibly silky and soft, carrying a faint scent akin to that of pecha berries.

He’s the one choosing to live with the pain and discomfort that comes with the bruises when a pokémon’s healing move could bring relief within seconds.

Maybe Ceri had been wrong. Maybe she had misjudged Elliot. Maybe he actually wants what every guy their age always seems to want; the same thing she’s sure had been implied the other night when they got way too drunk.

The smile she gives him is all too knowing, her azure gaze lingering on his before heading over to her own tiny section of the submarine. Her room, messy as ever. So much so that it takes her a moment to find a more comfortable yet still cute attire to change into – a sweater dress and thigh high socks, beneath the former resting pink lace he might see if he gets lucky.

Apparently he actually plans on it too, if judging by the fact that he’s shirtless when he opens the door for her after a couple of knocks. Not like Ceri would ever complain about the sight, of course.
