[attr="class","leymain"]He runs a palm over Will’s head as a silent thank you for being present. Before he can step away to make food Alex grabs him and pulls him close. He sighs affectionately into his lover’s collarbones.

“I missed you too.” He nuzzles into the warmth of Alex’s his throat, settling his body into the crescent between pulse and knees.

It hurts, a little, when Alex says I forgot your name. Memo doesn’t think he would ever forget Alex, not for a million years, let alone forty. But time does strange things to people, especially time spent under duress, and he tries not to let it linger. Instead, he rubs Alex’s shoulder, and says, “I’m just thankful you’re home.”

“It’s just a ghost, honey,” he says, affectionate, as the Gengar drags it’s tongue across Raya’s face. The cat mrrowps in displeasure, shaking droplets of saliva from her fur. She whirls to blast the thing but Memo holds out a hand. “Inside voices!”

She poorly suppresses a roll of her eyes but jumps and grabs onto the Gengar’s chubby baby leg with another bite, shaking her head viciously side to side.

[attr="class","leymain"]His nightmare weaves around him, changing like shifting sand. There’s a pulsing light, somewhere, the threatening hum of a scan, zipping beneath his feet. The space around him is empty and cold.

He’s staring down through a clear layer of… something. And from his feet sprouts a reflection of legs, taller and broader and wider; they lead up to Alex’s torso, Alex’s head, Alex’s dead, emtpy eyes.

Can you hear me?

The head lolls sideways. Blood shoots from its open neck.

“N-no,” he covers his ears, falls to his knees. “No, p-please.”

A loud swooshing noise and the mist parts. The image fades, wreathing away like smoke. Turning, there’s the image of spread wings in daylight. Guillermo blinks away his tears.

“S-sibella?” he asks, voice breaking.

Another blink, and he’s awake. The pulsing light, the garroted Alex, it’s all gone. The mist is crawling up the far wall as whatever caused it begins to settle. It’s just him and Sibella and Alex, standing in the damaged gym.

The silence is deafening.

Alex is saying things and Memo isn’t listening. He’s too busy touching-- wrapping his arms around him, burying his face in his chest, running palms up and down his spine. He pinches his cheek to check his color, holds his bangs up to look in his eyes-- comfortingly lavender, as always-- drops fingers to his waist to make sure he’s not lost drastic amounts of weight. He’s skinnier, sure, but still there, still whole.

“I,” he said, gulping through a sob like a fish out of water, “sure, yeah. Whatever you want.”

He pressed his forehead to Alex’s sternum and cried.

It’s a flimsy story. He could arrest him here for trespassing and let the legal system take care of it. But he can’t quite quiet that one suspicious voice in his mind, the one singing that something is definitely up.

“You can just call me Memo,” he says, stepping up to the base of the turbine and unlocking the door with a series of master keys kept on his person for Ranger activities. “Why don’t we go in together,” he suggests, holding the door open, “that way we can both do our jobs?”

Even being in an established relationship and having an established career, all Memo’s ever known is the beat. His two feet, the world around him-- he never settles in one place for very long. He has a home to go to and someone he loves there but if he spends too long of a time not doing something he’ll itch his own skin off.

Praxidike snaps her mandibles loudly, and when Memo looks over she points with her claws. He follows the line down to the ground where a figure is heading towards the door at the base of one of the turbines.

He flashes back, briefly, to Alex and a lighthouse, then shakes his head, and presses his palm on the back of his Togekiss. Puck dives, winding a spiral around the turbine, until they come to the ground.

“Whatcha doin’?” he inquires, hopping off his Togekiss behind the tall, blonde stranger.

He’d turned the flat upside down in a mindless panic. Gone door to door through the city streets, dread turning his heart into some perforated amalgamation of an organ. There’s no way Alex would have just left-- him, maybe, but the sanctuary? Never.

That was day one. Day two had him traversing whole swathes of Hoenn. Most of the authorities, the powers-that-were, had the same story for him: bunch of important people disappeared in the night. No idea where they had gone. Go home and wait.

He could not do that. He could not do that. He felt so ill, like his whole life was turning inside out, and he didn’t eat or sleep. He just walked-- all the bridges of Fortree, all her lesser-traveled ground streets. Strung out and tweaking, until he saw the pointed glow of a magic star in the sky, heading straight for their home.

He burst through the rooftop door with a stream of garbled language interspersed with curses he didn’t even know the meaning of.

“Oh, thank you god, thank god, thank god--!”

Fortree was a pretty self-sufficient city, but even the best self-oiling wheel needed grease now and then, and even though Alexei Ivanov wasn’t the Gym Leader anymore-- a very bittersweet fact-- Memo was still one of its senior rangers, so it was up to him to plug the cracks and continue to keep things running smoothly.

Most of their power was wind-generated-- cleaner for the environment and less destructive in the middle of a forest-- so mentions of Rocket activity at one of their larger turbine farms had Memo up in arms. He zipped around the whirling arms on his Togekiss, Puck, while Praxidike buzzed in his wake, ready for a fight, as always.

“It’s--,” quiet, he was about to say, though he bit his tongue at the last second. He was too superstitious to be bringing about that kind of bad juju.

Now, Memo loved everything about Alex, from his inability to stop bleeding to his… strange phobia of ghosts.

There was no ‘but’ here. He loved everything about Alex. So he was not surprised when he found himself being manhandled in front of his (much larger) lover. His ass slipped off the couch and then was jerked back on the couch in quick succession.
