Memo’s sisters are also not in Hoenn-- at least, to his knowledge. He is thankful for it, a fact he unknowingly shares with Aries, and not because of any lost love or latent affections-- but they do annoy him, that’s for sure. Anyhow, three of them sided with his mother when she told him he was dead to her, so.

“We could,” Memo whispered, fishing in his pocket. “Or, we could--,” he pulled out his phone, grin flashing, “--follow the GPS tracker I have on Atalys back to wherever they’re taking the Mareep.” His bravado faltered, slightly. “Provided she’s the one that gets taken, of course.”

His attention went back to the flock where--

--yup, there was Atalys, clambering over the top of the other Mareep. Guillermo hoped the trying too hard wouldn’t turn the Beheeyem off, but luckily, it didn’t seem bothered. A faint, glowing outline illuminated Atalys’ form, and up, up, up she floated, turning hooves over head in a gentle spin.

She gave a faintly miffed baa of confusion before the Beheeyem began floating back the way it came.

Memo winked at Aries, smile flashing again.

He shoots Tam a thankful look when the other Ranger helps to lift the hiker, now quaking in his boots and refusing to go a step further. The presence of the Snorlax seems to be encouraging, because the hiker begins to walk again, albeit slowly and shakily.

“It’s really strange that the Absol is still kicking around out here,” Memo says, pausing briefly to push a rather large limb out of his way. He wonders if he should release his own Pokemon but between the Snorlax and the Yamper, they seem well covered; he could, he supposed bring out his supports, but the hiker seemed more affected by fear than actual injury, judging by how much faster they were moving once the exit to the forest came into view.

It was enough for Memo to gently release the man and let him continue on his own, with Tam’s help, and before long the Hiker was running for the exit of the forest.

Memo stepped back, turning back the way they came and looking for any signs of the angry Disaster Pokemon, or maybe what caused it to go AWOL in the first place. Well, the meteor, obviously, but it couldn’t just be that, could it?

The Vespiquen led them down a short embankment, where the roots of trees punched through the dirt and gripped on for dear life before dangling away into a clotted mess of nothing. It was a little jump downwards-- well, more of a step, for Alex-- and then the Vespiquen turned and pushed them back against the bank, back of Memo’s shoulderblades thudding against Alex’s chest as the taller man’s back hit dirt.

Golden eyes glared right into his soul as the threatening buzz grew to its apex, paused for a moment, then began to dissipate. Only when it had started to quiet did the Vespiquen pull back. She pointed with a golden claw in the direction of the noise, then back at herself.

Memo squinted, wishing for all the world that Pokemon could speak English.

“You go with-- those Combee?” then he snapped his fingers, trying very much to ignore the heat and press of Alex’s body behind him, “Those are your Combee!”

The Vespiquen, only looking mildly exasperated, nodded. Then she jumped into some ridiculous version of charades that ultimately explained her frustration with the situation, but not much else: a flailing of arms, a boxing of ears, and a gripping and shaking of the air.

“It’s like she’s trying to speak to me, I know it,” Memo whispered to Alex, wondering if he was making sense of any more than he was.

Wow, three years. Memo smiles into the sun, thinking. How different would his life had been if he’d left home earlier? Would he have made it to Hoenn earlier? Found Alex, earlier? Been happier, earlier? He shakes his head, jerking himself back to the present.

He watches Guavafang sink down, mouth empty, and bites back a snicker.

“Oh, god, isn’t that the truth,” Memo says, running a hand through his hair. “Between Avatars and meteors and friggin’ space-time distortions. I’ve only been here for, like, half a year, but it seems like an eternity.”

He jumps a little as something lands on his shoulder, then calms when he realizes it’s just a Chatot. The little bird squawks and turns its head upside down, peering at him; Memo fishes in his bag for a berry, slightly soft and squished, and offers it to the parrot, who seems placated by the snack and sets about ripping it into little pieces for consumption.

"So, you just out exploring?" he asks absently, rubbing the music-shaped crest of... apparently, his new parrot.
