Fond. Is anyone actually fond of fire? Probably those crazy people that like lighting things up or something, right? There’s a word for that, but Tam couldn’t care less to try to remember what it is when pondering on the matter. He prefers it when things are simple, and truth be told, there’s nothing simple about this.

Someone different would perhaps judge her response as strange for an auction’s attendee, but Tam, who cares little for overanalyzing the words of people and who has no reason to be particularly suspicions of the woman next to him, merely makes note of it because of how similar it is to his own reasons for being at a place like this.

Tam looks at her, properly this time, and even though his expression is as neutral as ever, there’s something about her that rings as vaguely familiar. Tam isn’t great at recognizing people to begin with, so for all he knows he may have just ran into her somewhere before.

”I’m Tam. Good to meet you, Serena.” He shakes her hand in a practised gesture, and once the auction begins, his attention turns back to the stage. Still, he answers her question:

Time flies when playing with her new friend, the simple game of catch keeping both pokémon entertained for hours. But, eventually, as it always seems to be the case, all good things must come to an end, and in this case it happens when the Drifloon’s trainer comes to get her.

It’s a bit sad for the Happiny, since the realisation sinks in that she may never see her new friend again, but she smiles all the same, and at that moment, she makes an important decision.

Resolute, she waddles over to the Drifloon before it goes away, and gently pulling onto one of the Balloon Pokémon’s string-like arms, she hands it the sparkling white bouncing ball with which they had been playing – that which had until now been her precious egg.

She knows she won’t need it anymore, so why not give it a friend as a memento?

Sweltering heat has caused the sands of Slateport beach to be unbearably hot, to the point that standing barefoot on them would be, well… unbearable. Thankfully (or not so thankfully, considering how warm it is) Slateport’s new ranger captain finds himself wearing his uniform’s ever-so-reliable hiking boots, but that sure hadn’t stopped him from touching the sand with his hand when crouching down to get a better look. Big mistake. Everyone makes those, no?

”Yeah, no wonder a Sandaconda might be burrowing here, it’s just like the desert.”

Except for the sheer amount of people and the briny scent of the ocean, that is.

Of course, it doesn’t occur to Tam that perhaps swearing in front of one of their new recruits is perhaps not the best idea if he wants to give a good impression, especially considering who this recruit is. But, admittedly, despite the warnings given to him about @bobby, to him she’s just another recruit like any other. He acts as nonchalant as ever, and even when swearing in Arceus' name his tone is apathetic.

Unbeknownst to the Playhouse Pokémon, this is exactly why Tam had left her and his Stufful at the daycare today. Socialising! Well, that and the fact that he’s going on a potentially-dangerous assignment that’ll take all day and there’s no one to look after them, but the opportunity for interactions with pokémon she’s not familiar with is also a key factor here!

When the Drifloon rolls the egg (read: sparkly white bouncy ball) back to her, the Happiny waves her short little arms, waddling a couple of steps forward and reaching down to grab the precious sphere once it's close enough.

She jumps happily, and after doing so, the egg is sent rolling back towards her new friend!

Perhaps it’s a matter of her species’ nature, perhaps nurture makes all the difference in the world. When meeting him, no one would take a man like Tam to be the type that teaches his pokémon to be good and nice and kind, but his actions have always spoken louder than his words. Happiny knows that this is the sort of thing she’d like her to do. How does she know? Well… She just does!

Sure, the bouncy ball is no actual healing egg, and it can’t do much for the Drifloon at all, but she’s still pleased when the spectral balloon reaches for it, and she beams up in response.

”Egg!” And just like that, she gently drops the bouncy ball, causing it to lightly bounce on the floor – this time on purpose.
