”I mean shit that ain’t yer business t’know,” he spoke back plainly and immediately all the same. A skeptical glare trailed along her form as she waded along, though in light of the conversation he’d found himself pulled into, his common means of action found themselves absent as he merely watched her. ”Ya got yer own story, I’m sure— just like I got mine.”[break][break]

The snap caught his ears, and he passed a look of idle curiosity towards the workers she’d spoken to for just a moment.[break][break]

”And I got a tight policy of keepin’ that story to myself— price tags and bribery be damned.”[break][break]

He looked towards her again with a prolonged idleness. Before long, however, he sighed, slowly and slightly leaning closer as he rested both arms against his knees. The weight of his chest rested against both them and his arms as he tilted his head quirked his lip, slightly, to a side.[break][break]

”But yeah, though— I guess it does,” he mused on, shrugging. ”It’s that same, same fuckin’ thing that eats me alive, though; that feelin’ of bein’ restless and in my mind thinkin’ about it at times I don’t wanna be.”[break][break]

It only added to the amount of things he’d lost from the start, filling in the gaps of what previously hadn’t been attained—nor what he’d thought to have been attainable—before life found its way to pry it from his bleeding hands once more. Companionship was an ideal that he’d never cared for past the fleeting beds within days passed, yet within that forsaken dream realm—within the realm that gave him a purpose he’d never known himself capable of—it proved itself just as intent and willing to leave him like everything else.[break][break]

”Like I said— a liability. A weakness. I’m better off without it.”[break][break]

And truthfully, some part of him despised that.

That selfsame wryness that had overtaken his visage only seemed to brew deeper as it remained— but all in all, it was unintentional, for the most part. Instinct bleed deep within anyone and everyone, after all, and it just so happened that his own pushed him in favor of taunts and challenge even after all that time.[break][break]

After a small amount of thought—alongside a prolonged, sidelong glare her way—he shook his head and turned around.[break][break]

Unknowingly, his face contorted within a manner both familiar and not; the disdain clearly seen within his expression a most obvious result of the thoughts that involuntarily began to flood his mind at the mere idea of it all. ”I’d rather remember the whole fuckin’ story or nothing at all. His jaw tensed once more, his teeth gritting against one another as he inhaled deeply.[break][break]

A simple thought, albeit silent— though the keenest of all would find little difficulty in piecing together the vague implications of what it all, even without words. Though she looked his way—and though he felt her gaze upon him—his own, burning hues of amber merely lingered upon the pool in front of him for a little while longer. Another sigh left his lips as he leaned forward slightly, propping his elbow upon a knee while his jaw sought to cradle itself against his palm.[break][break]

A scoffing cackle left his lips at her initial response, a brief, ’Oooooh~,’ leaving him as he rose his hands, briefly, in faux apology.[break][break]

”Oooh, no need t’go passin’ insults, there, Princess,” he called back, a brief simper bleeding through once more as he clicked his tongue. ”Just’ a fuckin’ comment, is all. Asshurt…”[break][break]

Audacious.[break][break]

…Audacious, yet quickly and uncharacteristically brought into a vague lull of his own before long, that time around. Just as a sense of blindsided silence had overtaken her some time beforehand (albeit for differing reasons he would always refuse to apologize for), a similar bout of it had soon wrested its hands upon his shoulders; its grip creeping betwixt the cracks of his thoughts to the point that a wryness had met his faltering smile.[break][break]

For a moment, he merely flicked a dismissive hand in regard to her preceding commentary about the changing rooms on site, all while his eyes instinctively and absentmindedly strayed towards the selfsame clothes he’d ridded himself of only a short time beforehand. They lingered upon the bunches of fabrics before he reached over towards them, brushing them aside in favor of tugging one of the utility packs he’d brought with him out.[break][break]

He hadn’t opened it, though merely palmed it briefly as if ensuring the presence of a precious object.[break][break]

His jaw tensed faintly as he felt the form of his wallet, though only gave the briefest of thoughts to a certain, rapidly fading picture that remained folded within its confines.[break][break]

”...And if I said I did?” he started in response, finally, while carefully tossing that selfsame bag with his other belongings once more. [break][break]

His gaze strayed over his shoulders towards Corleone as she entered the pool—a vigilant and wary eye upon her, almost as if skeptical over whether or not recent histories would repeat themselves—before he inhaled deeply. He licked his lips idly before slowly turning around, and rather than plunging straight into the waters, he merely hooked his legs over the edge of the poolside, allowing them an opportunity to soak before anything else.[break][break]

”What’s it matter, eh?” he inquired further, his brows furrowing yet again as he watched the rippling waters before him. ”Ain’t like we’ll ever be goin’ back.”

In spite of the grunt that found its way from its lips upon impact, a sleaze-touched smirk remained curled upon them. A small growl followed the sound as if in expression of recovery and disdain alike, though before long, had soon tapered off into another, simpler breath and hum as narrowed hues of hazel trailed along the other Rocket’s form as she began to step away.[break][break]

”Whatever makes yerself feel better,” he snickered, eying her for a while longer before continuing on towards the selfsame pool he’d initially had his eye on.[break][break]

With a fleeting sigh, he clicked his tongue a few times, only eying the Emboar that was sent away for a few moments in acknowledgment before brushing past it. His gaze soon found itself upon his own Pokemon in the interim, watching his own duo of a crew continue interacting with the Zoroark that initially approached them while haphazardly beginning to peel the layers of his shirts off.[break][break]

”...What’re ye even relaxin’ from, anyways?” he called across the way before long, casting a brief glance towards the azure haired woman all the while. He flicked his clothes somewhere on the sidelines, pushing his shoes to meet them before kneeling down to begin folding the cuffs of his pants up. ”That just rich bitch code for, ‘Oooh, I’m just gonna be edgy at sea for a day,’ or somethin’?”[break][break]

He rose an unseen brow to the back turned away from him.[break][break]

”’Cause it kinda sounds like it, not gonna lie~.”

Truthfully speaking, he expected a bit more.[break][break]

Not necessary action and intent, no, no— but in the grand scheme of things, he’d been expecting some form of repetition of history. She’d done such a fine job of living in the past with each proclamation of supposed wrath that she’d wholeheartedly deliver unto him, yet within those moment, an uncharacteristic silence overtaken her, with none other than him being the source of such pauses in both mind and body.[break][break]

As if either concept had been needed to read her.[break]
The look upon her face did more than enough to help him in that regard.[break][break]

So it sunk in, simply speaking. The pause. The expression she wore. Although his own guise sported nothing short of malice and rebellion within those first moments, he found himself remaining as he was; amber hues igniting with a curious furor as he maintained eye contact with her all the while. Again, his smile faltered a vague bit more as an equally as fleeting hum escaped him; his form only proving to lean very, very slightly closer, and the weight following the motion bearing all the more against her wrist.[break][break]

His eyes narrowed as they searched hers.[break]
A familiar toothiness blossomed between curling lips before long.[break][break]

”...Get a look at that fuckin’ look on yer face,” he hummed with a tone continuously low and lulled, clicking his tongue at her while gradually leaning back. His hand left her wrist all the while, instead flicking the underside of her chin as he soon stood at his proper height once more. ”Tch. With a gaze still ablaze with equal parts intrigue and egotism, alike, he pressed his tongue against his cheek as he snickered.[break][break]

Again, she barked at him, regaling upon him threat after threat—word after word—just like what always seemed to happen whenever they crossed paths. By the word, ’wreck,’ he’d already been partway into a deep breath; no means of restraint to be noted in the slightest as he allowed both chest and shoulders, alike, to raise in a point of exaggeration all the while. That same, aforementioned breath exited his form in just as heavy and loud of a sigh as when it first passed through his lips, graced by a faint and growling groan in equal parts exasperation and annoyance as he only half listened.[break][break]

”Yeah, yeah, yeah— ye’ll tear me t’shreds ‘n hold me accountable,” he said, dismissively flicking one of his hands faintly from within his arms’ fold. ”Ye’ll ruin m’finances; send me sleepin’ with the fishies; make m’life a livin’, bleedin’ Hell—”[break][break]

Eyes of amber narrowed into a taunting glare as his smirk quirked larger.[break][break]

”—and I ain’t believin’ a word of it since y’can’t even keep up with past promises, now can ye~? ‘Cause, y’know— ya said ye’d kill me before, yet here I am.”[break][break]

An idle coyness persisted amidst his demeanor as he eyed her for a while longer, almost as if sizing her up in the midst of their back and forth. Half a mind. He had half a mind to simply turn away again and continue on towards his intrusive endeavors, but before he could so much as move a single foot away, her hand reached towards him.[break][break]

With a click of the tongue, he immediately snapped one of his own around her wrist, stepping forward a rough pace or two and pushing her along to the nearest wall or otherwise. While holding her wrist overhead, he leaned in, leering and looming as the grin upon his lips faltered, its prior presence only replaced by a crooked arrogance.[break][break]

”Even if ya tried, lass,” he whispered once more, his tone low, ”ya couldn’t do shit t’fuck me over. Not. In. Yer. Wildest. Dreams.”

Especially not when work and a number of other, unplanned circumstances snuck into his life at every beck and turn (there was still a sense of conflict that he felt towards his homeland, even then). With a hefty swing, his hand found the gang member’s with a crisp clap, squeezing it as his other arm hooked around to give his friend a single, heavy-handed pat against his shoulder. ”What am I doin’ out ‘ere? Nah, the fuck’re ye doin’ out ‘ere, eh?”[break][break]

He released his hand as quickly as he’d taken it, crossing his arms with a spark of curiosity igniting within his eyes.[break][break]

Another bout of silence would be her response; a continuous moment that lacked closure for the inquiry asked of him. It lingered even as the form before him shifted in favor of facing him properly once more; lingered as hues of a dulled amber met those of similar tones; lingered as she, herself, merely stood there and waited for a response that only seemed as though it would never come.[break][break]

He inhaled deeply after some time, furrowing his brows all the more as he lowered his hands into his pockets.[break][break]

”Answers’re money, y’know,” he started off, a phantom’s call bleeding deep upon his tongue, ”and there ain’t no amount’a cash that could buy me out.”[break][break]

”I told ye not t’mind it~,” he hummed leisurely, meeting her heightened temper with a lulled one of his own— something that was, frankly, a rare sight to behold. ”Look, if ya wanna—”[break][break]

Whatever he started to say was cut off by a sudden, albeit sharp and short wheeze as he stumbled slightly at the tug, though quickly ascertained his footing once more before completely falling over. His tongue clicked a few times in rapid succession—almost as if he dared to be annoyed (spoiler alert: that was the case)—before humming all the more louder in an exaggerated bout of pensiveness, peering over his shoulder and down towards the woman who stopped him in his tracks.[break][break]

He squinted at her as Hafren’s ears perked up at the sight of her friend from recent pasts, immediately yipping and bouncing over.[break][break]

”Yeah, well, even if I asked, let’s face it— ya wouldn’t really gimmie the green flag~.”[break][break]

He turned around to face her, flicking her hand from the fabric of his shirt all the while.[break][break]

”And honestly, with how far from shore we are, I kinda see two options—[break][break]
