Setting a normal walking pace, a low chuckle filled Rafael's throat. He knew Roche had recognized the danger from the way he had acquiesced to his touch but the man still couldn't help himself from being an asshole. Rather than take the bait of the man's insults, he simply kept walking, lowering his hand from Roche's neck to the small of his back to gently press him forward.[break][break]

Rafael's pants tightened as Colin's lean muscles moved beneath his palm. Every time Roche opened his mouth, he wanted to forcefully close it again. Zip his lips shut, or... the image of Roche gagged and on his knees flashed through his mind.[break][break]

"It kills you that it was me who stepped in to help you, doesn't it?" he asked, turning his head so that his breath feathered over Roche's ear as Rafael checked behind them.[break][break]

From his intimate vantage point on Roche's shoulder, it was easy to see three men and women in suits step from an unmarked sedan on the street and interpose themselves between the two men and their pursuers. Rafael couldn't tell if it was his corporate security team or Roche's, but their would-be assailants had better hope the team belonged to Roche. Thinking of it, Rafael wondered if EvoEx even had a corporate security detail; Roche seemed like the type of egotistical asshole who thought himself above one.[break][break]

Taking one final opportunity to annoy the man, Rafael huffed a warm breath in his ear before quipping, "All this work just to get me back to the hotel with you? You could have just asked."

A shout of alarm rose from one of the excavations as a Golett shook itself free of the sand, upsetting bins of hastily packed tools. Rafael's frown smoothed out as he stepped from the command tent and headed toward the Automaton Pokemon. As archaeologists and laborers scattered, Rafael gestured wordlessly to his Toedscruel.[break][break]

Strong tentacles wrapped around the Golett as Rafael approached. The wild pokemon struggled against its bonds but Rafael could already feel his satisfaction rising as he tossed a pokeball at the helpless thing. At least he would have one thing to take home with him when they evacuated ahead of the sandstorm.

Standing under a tented canopy bearing the logo of the Artega foundations, Rafael wore a slight frown. His long-time employees could sense the foul mood approaching like a distant storm and steered clear of him in the command tent. On the desert sands below, archaeology teams were scrambling to secure excavation sites and pack their tools. Rafael shifted his scowl from the job site to the sandstorm on the horizon, slowly and inevitably bearing down on them.[break][break]

He recognized that their delicate work could not continue during in such weather but he was still annoyed at the disruption.

Shaking himself off at the urinal, Rafael couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief that that dinner was finally over. Having politely excused himself to use the restroom at a very calculated moment, he was able to skip all of the goodbyes and empty platitudes that would inevitably follow dinner. As he washed his hands, he made and effort to smooth out crinkled lines of a frown that crossed his forehead. After all, he had slipped the server his credit card on the way to the bathroom. When the chairman went to request the check with his hand on the non-profit's limited credit card, the server would announce that Mister Artega had already covered it. He would look generous, the board members would mutter praises for his generosity, and Roche would have to sit there and listen to it.[break][break]

Yes, his frown was quickly fading as he dried his hands and stepped from the bathroom. A smile even appeared as his gaze swept over the empty table and caught sight of Roche's back as he stepped out the door. Love to see you leave and love to watch you go. Rafael smirked.[break][break]

Following the board members out onto the street, he caught sight of two limos rounding the corner several blocks away, just in time to pick them up. Something prickled at his conscious, however, and his eyes flickered across a group of young men standing at the curb nearby. Rafael did not miss that two of them were discreetly palming retractable knives.[break][break]

Corporate espionage, perhaps? Or maybe an assassination attempt. It wouldn't be his first. Either way, given the stature of most of the board, only he and Roche were important enough to be targeted by something like that.[break][break]

His gaze flickered to Roche as he said his goodbyes to the chairman. Rafael wouldn't lose sleep if the man bleed out on a Rustboro sidewalk but it wasn't the type of press he preferred to be associated with. Better than they focus on his playboy lifestyle or his charity than the darker side of things. Taking a large step forward, he settled his hand on the back of Roche's neck with his fingers on each side.[break][break]

"Beautiful evening and the hotel isn't a far walk, why don't you join me?" he suggested pleasantly, his eyes signaling that this wasn't a suggestion. Rafael tightened his grip to emphasize his point. And if he squeezed a little harder than necessary, he didn't mind that he might leave a bruise. Either way, they'd have enough distance to release their pokemon or for their corporate security team to intervene if they were followed.

Stepping into the restaurant, Rafael was dismayed to find that the only seat left at the table was at one end, next to the chairman and across from Roche. A wicked grin tugged at his lips as he took his seat. Normally these dinners after the Board meetings were dreadully boring, but now he could play a little game. Rafael delighted in games, and judging by how Roche played at the meeting, the other man must like the ones that hurt.[break][break]

The chairman droned on beside him about some run-down dump they were funneling money into preserving, but as Rafael sipped his sherry his eyes were on the way Roche's well-tailored suit accented his muscles as he shifted in his chair. As the other man reached for his glass and took a drink between sentences, Rafael's eyes watched as his lips parted; he took in that little flick of his tongue over his lips to collect the remnants of his beverage.[break][break]

Shifting his gaze back to the chairman, Rafael leaned in and feigned interest while his thoughts remained on Roche.[break][break]

Hot. But what a douchebag.

A slight grin settled on his face as the chairman, a septuagenarian with an kind smile and no political skills whatsoever, finished welcoming Roche to the Board, thanking him for his anticipated leadership. What the man didn't mention was the undoubtedly sizable contribution Roche had made to the charity's coffers that earned him a seat at this table. Rafael's eyes twinkled - ignoring it didn't change the fact that it was how business was done.[break][break]

Rafael's grin widened as he leaned forward and said, "I couldn't agree more, Mister Chairman. In fact, with Mister Roche's influence in the Finance world, undoubtedly we will see less corporations buying up historical buildings just to bulldoze them for profitable real estate. Certainly with EvoEx being one of the biggest players in the game, those loans will start drying up for real estate developers. Bravo, Mister Roche, truly."[break][break]

He leaned back in his seat, satisfied with himself. Roche would have to be careful on who he did business with in Rustboro and what companies EvoEx invested in or else look like a complete asshole. How satisfying.[break][break]

As the chairman droned on about an upcoming awareness campaign, Rafael gave Roche a quick wink when he was sure no one was looking.

Rafael didn't mind a bit of information gathering for Rocket but his sniffed disdainfully as group of Tangela stepped onto the forest path ahead of them. Each one sported that bulbous toxic chain that he had seen infecting other pokemon. With no Celebi in sight and hostile pokemon ahead, he glanced to the two retainers following along behind him.[break][break]

"Clear the rabble," he said in a firm, authoritative voice.[break][break]

His Klefki jingled deviously as her fairy lock held the Tangela in place. The two trainers beside him were quick to set in on them vulnerable pokemon with their fire-type companions.
