Hopefully ollie morales doesn’t mind the way Wren trails after him like a lost puppy once his containers are deposited for the free for all. At least, he seems fine enough with it, given the enthusiasm that matches his own. “Hm, I don’t think you did, now I think of it. But that’s a relief! I think if I didn’t have a gps I’d have a hard time telling left from right,” he chatters back as he grabs a plate of his own to begin piling it up.[break][break]

It’s just that he gets distracted so easily! And then he gets turned around until he’s going in a totally different direction. But if he can stay focused, then it’s not too bad. Juno, satisfied with her thievery, retreats back into the confines of the knapsack, undoubtedly content to snooze for the time being.[break][break]

“Special..?” Wren frowns in thought until it dawns on him, eyes going round. “Oh! No..should they have been? Would that have been okay?” Then he grins, tilting conspiratorially toward the captain as his own voice drops. “Should we say they are?” Placebo effect, and the like.[break][break]

It’s an amusing concept, though one that makes him think that it would land him in a tricky spot as a rookie. He’s just dug into the generous helping of carbonara he’s spooned onto his plate when someone slides into the empty seat across from them. Mouth full of pasta, he waves frantically in greeting until he can speak again. “I’m okay! I’m Wren–I’ve just started training. Do you work here in Lilycove, or-?”[break][break]

He’s about to continue rambling when someone across the room catches his eye. Is that Amelia Livy ?? Before he thinks much of it, his hand is jammed up into the air to at least wave in her direction.

“Yep! I’m tough.” His head bobbed in assurance as he spoke, something comically stern twisting his face as he held up an arm and flexed it. It was nice, though–being fretted over, even if Levy wouldn’t openly admit to it while literally doing so. Wren had so much energy, he often didn’t know where to put all the excess. Levy soothed some of it though, prompting him to simmer in a way that didn’t feel diminishing.[break][break]

It had always been like that, though. For as long as Wren had known him–which was totally like, ages and ages.[break][break]

He dusted some of the dirt loose from his clothes, perking up even more when it was confirmed that Levy was all done. “Yeah, same here! Super glad for it too because all my lectures were sooo boring today. And I have labs that are hands on and stuff. I don’t know how you sit through so many lessons that’s just talking and talking, on and on.”[break][break]

Kinda admirable, really. Wren just didn’t have the attention span to do so much work and so much listening in one day. He was practically bubbling over with all that energy–outpouring in incessant rambles and fidgety movements. It was instinctive to lean into the touch, warm fuzz diffusing from the center of his chest (another peculiarity when it came to Levy,) chin tipping up to receive the touch.[break][break]

“Thank you for your evaluation, Dr. Alinsky! Now-” Stealthily (which wasn’t stealthy at all,) Wren rolled to his tiptoes to hook his arm around Lev’s neck and shoulders. “-if you’re and I’m free. Wanna hang out?”

Shyness isn’t usually a trait most can associate with Wren. Or nervousness for that matter (or rather, blatant nervousness.) But given the fact that this is all so fresh and new to him, Wren can’t help the flutter of trepidation in his stomach as he approaches the Lilycove HQ. He’s pretty sure he double checked the directions he jotted down about a thousand times, but they led him there, sure enough.[break][break]



Here goes nothin’, right? It wouldn’t be that bad, and Wren insisted to himself that he wouldn’t stick out like a sore thumb with how clueless he was to just about everything going on. Awkwardly shuffling the containers in his arms, he checked his watch. So maybe he was like ten minutes late, but if there was business to attend to…they wouldn’t get right to it, right? The last thing he wanted to do was wander into a room that was dead silent, all eyes moving to him because he’d probably do something dumb like trip, or run into the doorframe, or–[break][break]



Nope! He was getting ahead of himself. No more of that. Sucking in a breath, he pushes through the doors with his elbow. To his relief, there was only the din of casual chatter and forks scraping against plates. Not an interrupted debriefing in sight. Scanning the area, he pinpointed the only familiar face in the room and made a beeline toward ollie morales where he was piling up a plate, as if his little life depended on it. “Ollie! I’m only…eleven minutes late. And I only got lost once, which is like an impressive feat for me.”[break][break]



Out of his knapsack, a fuzzy brown head popped free from under the flap. Juno, rousing from a nap, twitched her nose in greeting. Or maybe to snoop in the direction of Ollie’s plate. Wren paid the eevee no mind, still mid-babble. “Oh! And I bright these.” He held the containers aloft, one housing brownies and one with cookies. The brownies had been a fall back when his attempts at baking the snickerdoodles didn’t…exactly go according to plan.[break][break]



They woulda come out better if his friend had helped him, but Levy had only silently watched him from the kitchen counter, over the top of his book in flattened judgment as Wren had found himself flour-ladened and then warring with a smoking oven. But they had come out only a tiny bit too toasty, so why not bring those too?

“Well Juno, looks like we’re home free!” Wren chirped as he wandered across campus, intent on making his way back to his housing. The eevee in his arms, stubbornly independent, wiggled herself loose and hopped down, intent on walking on her own.[break][break]

It was nice, being done with his courses for the day–endless opportunity for nothingness stretched ahead of him. Granted, he should maybe work on a couple upcoming assignments, but he’d think about that later. Or maybe he should figure out more about the ranger opportunity that had been recently extended his way–again! That was future Wren’s problem.[break][break]

He’d sort it all out. Eventually. [break][break]

His eyes brightened as he spotted familiar coal-dark hair and small, narrow build through the crowd. His pace picked up, a stupidly wide grin dawning over his featured with a sticky glue permanence. “Hey!” he tried to greet, but it did little to catch Levy’s attention.[break][break]

Wren threaded the crowd with chirps of excuse me! and comin’ through! all for the sake of catching up with the other. Breaking free of people on either side of him, his arms lifted to wave both hands frantically as he scampered closer. “Lev! Hey Levy! It’s m-“ Well obviously Levy knew who Wren was.[break][break]

His words morphed into a startled yelp as his feet caught up on themselves and he tumbled forward–carried by too much momentum. Wren crashed down in a heap, and Juno skidded to a stop to check him over, but quickly scrambled away as Wren popped up within seconds, face tinted pink and still smiling. “I’m okay, I’m okay!” Bright laughter followed, and he managed to slow his pace a bit.[break][break]

“I didn’t think I’d see you today,” he continued to babble as if his clumsiness hadn’t just gotten the better of him, “are you done with classes? How are you?” As he talked, he tried and failed to rub dirt from his cheeks. Contrary to Wren, Juno politely approached Levy and sat in front of him, plumey tail curling neatly around her feet as she blinked up at him.
