There stood with a trusty Grapploct, a woman in the distance with a sack on her back, when Genny's eyes narrowed fully. She'd thought the criminal would have been gone already, but the way so many civillians were grounded nearby, asleep by the gas, while the lone villain stands with her stolen wares, had Genny scowl. It was lucky that no one was hurt here. It was luckier that Genny was the only one to find her.[break][break]

The mask gone, she revealed herself, and Genny's scowl deepens, eyes burning with determination. She gets into stance herself, next to Uzi and Rembrandt, as the villain before her waxes on and on about Genny being a hero to stop her. It felt... was she aiming for this? Goading some hero to come and stop her? Likely, this woman was a Rocket, and just as likely, Rocket wanted to operate in the shadows, right? But here she was, revealing herself fully to Genevieve. Why?[break][break]

The wink comes, and so does asking for the name. Genny scowls bigger. "My name is Ranger Cromwell. I hold no power to arrest. But I will take you down!" She yells back to her, a karate-like stance at the ready for this woman.[break][break]

Show her what she's got, huh? "Gladly!" While the Grapploct would lumber towards Uzi and Rembrandt and fire off with two OCTOZOOKAs, both Pokemon take the hit and falter back. Rembrandt in particular growls out with a roar, as Uzi squints towards the might octopus. Genny would call out as she runs for the Rocket properly. "Rembrandt, surf's up. Uzi, freeze them solid!" As the Rampardos calls for the SURF wave, Uzi utilizes an AURORA BEAM to attempt to freeze the wave around the Grapploct. Lock'em down.[break][break]

While Genny herself lands towards the villain, hazel eyes burning, and she throws her fist forward towards the gut. She knows the moves, sort of. Just a matter of seeing if they work.

It's a quick fly over to the Meteor Falls, and with enough speed, she would land herself nearby the entrance thanks to her Aerodactyl, Shale. The big winged fossil Pokemon roared, as she landed, licking towards her wings as she would cry, and Genny would ruffle the big dino with a few pets.[break][break]

Today was a bit of a venture. She'd done it a couple times back in Alola, but watching kids was an easy forte for the Ranger. In fact, she'd done so when she was barely older than those she looked after.[break][break]

There's a reason for it. Today, she was looking after Eris Halla on a little spelunking venture into the Meteor Falls. The little girl could easily handle herself. She was a teenager. A little never hurt. She did however, want to talk to her. She helped Isaac Merlo during their time on the ship when she couldn't. This was how Genny was going to make up for it![break][break]

As she returns Shale, she would reach into her pocket for her phone.[break][break]

She begins to tap on the ground. Just like with Momo Sakai... it was time to be the cooler big sister.

Sometime that night...[break][break]

After meeting with Yuina Higashi , Genny finally been ready. She got her hair in a nice ponytail, somewhat longer than it had been. She'd looked herself in the mirror a dozen times within town. Even doing things DESIREE BLOOMS would be proud of her for; a little makeup.[break][break]

Makeup and Genny went about as much together as paperwork, and Genny hated paperwork. But, between the eyeliner, a little foundation, a little bit for the contours, she'd do it for him. She may dislike it, but it was the Christmas party last year, when she really tried to look hot, that made her believe that she COULD be. All thanks to a Girlygang she loved so much.[break][break]

And so, as she's texting Isaac, she looks back at her outfit.[break][break]

'Hey Izzy! I'm almost there?' she types in her phone before sending.[break][break]

Admittedly, part of her reason to coming was to check in on him. After having his leg hurt as much as it was, and nearly dying on that Megalopolan ship... Genny wasn't taking her chances. Izzy wasn't dying, or fading away from her. Not on her watch. Not like Elio. Not again.[break][break]

Part of her feared it might happen. And she'd rather not relive that break-up.

Genny's been around Hoenn lately. Today, she took a personal day, going to do some shopping. Picking up something for her boyfriend, some strawberry shortcake she found in a local bakery. She wanted to do something for Isaac Merlo, because they hadn't had much time since the prison. And doing that, meant she could feasibly get to Petalburg at the end of the day today, or tomorrow.[break][break]

With bag in hand, walking out the store, Genny's cheeks were blushing red. This would clearly apologize for their little time together. She could check in on her Aron she gave to Isaac. She's excited, because it means she can show him how strong she'd gotten. She was excited about the daydream of his reaction.[break][break]

That was, until she was rudely awakened from her hopes by the boom from the distance, and Genny's hazel eyes went wide. What...? She was the closest Ranger. From her personal bag, she tosses on the Ranger jacket, slipping the sleeves over her blouse, and begins to run, tossing out a Pokemon to follow. Jacuzzi, the Vaporeon, cries out as they run.[break][break]

"Chilling Water, Uzi. Aurora Beam it, just like during the Silph Cup!" The Vaporeon does so, and create a flood of water in a single spread. It'd melt soon, she needed speed, so she began sliding on the ice, with Uzi following close behind, slopes and turns made with a quick turn. It required an insane amount of focus not to fall on her butt.[break][break]

But, when she gets closer, there's smoke... no, that's not just smoke. Spores? She yells. "Flip Turn, quick stop!" Uzi would fling upwards into an arc, ensuring that Genny had a full stop on the ice, as she does so on the fly. Uzi is returned, and in his place-[break][break]

"Rembrandt, blow it out!" The Rampardos bursts from the ball, and utilizes a WHIRLWIND from its big mouth to push the spores away. This was a terrorist attack.[break][break]

And Genny would make sure the terror would end. One way, or another.

A vacation from Lilycove was in her future. Well, time off. Time off from being a Ranger, and now being here in Petalburg, she had a couple of things to do. Genny was a very active person, and while she wasn't always available due to the bueracracy of Ranger life. And when answered to the call to protect the region, it often put her in... troubling circumstance.[break][break]

Not today though. After arriving, she'd go see Isaac Merlo sometime later. After all, he lived here, and she felt like her work had taken a lot of her time. Still, she always made sure to text him, not unlike today.[break][break]

'Hey Izzy. I'm in town! I'll see you in a few with some strawberry shortcake I saw in Mauville!'[break][break]

The text sent out, she smiles at it, before her eyes glanced over her most recent contacts. At the bottom of those most recent six or seven... Yuina Higashi . Maybe she was around?[break][break]

'Hey Yuina! I'm in Petalburg... you wanna catch up? I was going to head to the woods for a little practice. Are you available?'[break][break]

Hopefully she was after that text. Maybe it was presumptuous, but she should check in to her whole gang sometime. Maybe another meetup?

War is coming, in the air like a stench that never gets washed away. What's left is to understand how to fix it. If the Megalopolan threat was a temporary cold, the Rocket threat is an infection. Those within, those without, it didn't matter, if Rocket was involved, there was a problem. Genny stopped trusting that.[break][break]

So for the coming threats ahead, Genevieve would begin to get into a heavy amount of exercise. From morning cardio, to lifting weights, she would be ready, body and mind.[break][break]

Today, it was an invitation to Lavaridge though. Desiree, a woman she had desperately wanted to see again. They often had so few, precious chances to meet outside of threats and problems, let alone just mono y mono. Genny found the invitation lovely, and even brought her trusty Honedge, Gram, as well as her Mudkip, Blue. It gave her a chance to catch-up with her first Girlygang friend.[break][break]

And to make sure she was okay.[break][break]

When she finally makes it to Lavaridge, and walks into the false woods, her eyes are focused. She looks different, and holding up her phone to check her eyes, she seemed... different. Genny's inquisitive eyes see the woman before her as strong. Stronger than the same little girl who came to Hoenn years ago. Her hair was getting longer.[break][break]

And one thing Desi always brought of her, the girly girl inside. Was that a gray hair? Her face scrunched up. "Aah..." she sighs. Hopefully Desi doesn't notice?[break][break]

"Desi? You here?" she calls out nearby. Gram on her back, Blue on her shoulder. Blue fearfully eyeing the world inside of the forest. Gram sleeping, always attentive.

Late Night Blues [M]

Tiny and insignificant, Genny is busy with paperwork again. AGAIN. It's formality. This had happened before, and she even reopened her Megalopolan case from last year, the prison she had been locked under with a lot of Hoenn leaving its mark like the bandages around her head, and on her cheek. Overall, she came out less scarred than others but the emotional ones remain to be tolerated, never faltering. Those could be seen in her looks around the office space again and again.[break][break]

She was even back in Slateport again, a place she'd moved from years ago to get a fresh start. Knowing the bueracratic system, it was important to keep her head on straight. Praised for her duties? Sure.[break][break]

And rewarded with paperwork.[break][break]

Alcohol so far and away now, the scent comes to her nose. They had a few beers still out, something friendly as a welcome back after the whole experience. A couple, sure. Taste was to-be-desired, and while the sentiment was nice, they were likely going to be thrown away.[break][break]

Heavy typing nearby fills the air, along with Imagine Drampas, a band she knew well. Her hazel eyes move to the source, as she gets up, the four foot eleven redhead peeking around to see a masked man. And while he looked scary, Genny knew that looks were often deceiving, so taking matters into her own hands, she decided that she needed a break.[break][break]

And what better way but to offer beer? Holding a pack of four of the world's trashiest beers, Genny knocks on the table nearby.[break][break]

"You seem like you're a little stressed. Can I offer you a drink? Maybe help out? I need a fifteen anyways." Her words are sweet, and while the uniformed Ranger would stare on, she wasn't intimidated. No. A jellyfish in Ultra Sea couldn't make her flinch, let alone a former Rocket.[break][break]

After all. Unknown to her, she was dating one.

Heh. Squirtles Squads are real? How about that? Genny can't help but feel her lips curve upwards. Not only is the way the man before her speaking in a particularly friendly way, but it's clear from how he's acting, or at least it seemed, that Genny's fears of a kidnapper were unfounded. 'Squirtles are too cute', she thinks to herself, a sigh of relief at the identity of the man before her; a reporter for HNN.[break][break]

With a nod, she finally rests her shoulders with Keanu doing the same, and takes the moment to greet him properly. "A pleasure. You can call me Genny, he's Keanu," she informs, a sweeter, bubblier personality under the rough distrusting exterior.[break][break]

His questions on theories has Genny say it aloud. "I don't know. I have theories, but I can't know for sure until I find one. Some of them are my friends." After she speaks, the more somber tone takes hold again. She bites her lip. This wasn't supposed to happen. Was it safe to have a reporter out here?[break][break]

"You might as well stick with me for the time being. If half the region's gone, a reporter on his own is an easy target, even with an adorable squad of misfits." She has to at LEAST compliment the boys. They're keeping this man safe. But it's her job to ensure that his safety is priority. Especially since she's got a full squad today.

Koraidon falls, the simulated king would slumber. And beyond the dream, the simulation would suffer the effects Venus gave. In essence, Genny finds it cruel. Such a wonderful creature, who chose to fight. It may be a simulation, but when Genny's hand rests upon her chest, she can feel its pain.[break][break]

The Sheriff's words reach her, and she nods. "It could've. But we were able to get through it," her resolve is unbroken as she speaks the truth before her. The path ahead, one of pain and sorrow.[break][break]

"Thank you, Sheriff. For training with me," she takes a step to Navy and stops mid-step. The tension mounts in her neck, and her cheeks heat up just a little. It almost feels embarrassing. "Permission to hug?" she asks sweetly, shifting in place a spell.

Ranger work is never done. Just as much as a Litten is always going to need to get pulled out of a tree, so too is Team Rocket always a problem that needs to be fixed. The League keeps Hoenn safe, or at least, that's what is to be believed. The weaker hearts falter, and the strong are tested and made.

Coming to Alola with aspirations to be a Ranger, Ranger Cromwell believed for the past couple years that her job would be like a fairy tale; her parents both were Rangers, and waxed poetically about it to her as she grew up. The wide-eyed young Genny made it her aspiration. But the Hoenn conflict with Rocket continues to worsen day-by-day, and they're not the only threat. It's forced her to look at the path to gain strength, and realize the pain that she must endure to get to the happy ending.

Happy endings are worth fighting for.

Every mission tasked has pushed Genny further to the edge. Every time she was given a task, she took it without fail. From the timeline shennanigans of Goodbye Galar, to the factional wars on the islands near Dewford, and the Megalopolan resurgence within Blood, Iron, and Mud and Prismatic Penitentiary, Genny has forced herself to gain strength, suffered trauma after trauma with death after death on her heels. And yet, she still aspires to continue and keep going.

It can't all be for nothing. No matter what comes her way, she will walk the path and make it through.

Genny started out as the sunshine wonderchild from Alola, complete with a dream to be the best Ranger she can be. She looked up to the women who led Hoenn, and aspired to be like them. For the past two years of writing her, she's evolved into a more jaded person, growing a spine and learning the reality of her heroes, but she's never fully lost her way. Truth may be knocking, but her dreams aren't mistakes. Her idols are real, they're people. Her aspirations are real, and achievable. She intends to go higher, to gain strength of will and strength of heart, and by surrounding herself with those she loves, and defend them.

She has learned that she is a shield for people, and she will fight to her dying breath.

When it comes to Genny, I take a lot of inspiration from Kiritsugu Emiya from the Type Moon series, as her resolve is slowly budding more and more to that end. Adding a little sunshine to that core, Kiritsugu exists as a particular pragmatist that she hasn't fully embraced. To save the lives of the many, the few must be dealt with. Breaking her enough will inevitably lead to this style of ending.

PLOTS

Seeing the Best In You

Genny is the type to always approach people with the best of intentions. She doesn't use people, and tries to see the best. There's a gullible nature to Genny that still feeds off the idealism to her core, something she will never, ever lose. This has placed Genny in danger a multitude of times, and while she's grown more careful, there's a natural desire to help others in her heart.

SEEKING

New friends. Genny is always going to look for more friends. If they're someone who just wants friendship, Genevieve will naturally want to be their friend. It's just who she is.
Exploiters. People who take advantage of her kindness. While she's grown more jaded in current time, she will still help those in need, even with a little more caution. Gaining her inner strength, she has grown wiser.
Pragmatists. People who can challenge the ideals Genny holds are always welcome. To challenge that idealism is important to keep her convictions in check.

A Path of Strength

Suffering trauma and loss are almost too natural in a faction war. She will lose those she loves the most, and she has. It has hardened her resolve, and pushed her forward. Every death needs to count, or else what was it all for? She will do everything she can, a true Leslie-Knope type, to achieve that goal.

SEEKING

Mentors. Those who have helped impart knowledge upon her have not been forgotten, and those who wish to apply pressure will find the diamond underneath. Those who wish to help teach her, or help her along the way, are absolutely things she needs to become the best. Seasoned Rangers are a big plus here.
Pressure. Those who who test her, to see how far she's come. This is very much a measuring stick kind of deal. This isn't even necessarily from a battle standpoint, and can be good or bad.
Combat Instructors. She NEEDS to learn how to defend herself. She's done a little work, but she can't fight without her Pokemon. Easy target.

The Rocket in the Room

It goes without say, Genny has made a name for herself against Rocket, though she's often lost in the earlier events. Rocket has constantly gotten the one-up on her, and she has lost a number of friends from them. She refuses to lose to Rocket and will defend any and all, no matter what. Even if it continues to beat her down, she will stand.

SEEKING

Rematches. If you've fought against Genny before, rivalries and rematches are insanely potent to her journey. Reoccurring villains are definitely desired.
Uncertainties. In her mind, especially after the island fights near Dewford, some Rockets had very feasible and important reasons to be with Rocket. Some are straight villains, but the few that fight or are stuck for a reason give Genny pause.
Former Friends. Those who take the Rocket mantle, and were at on point friends, will actively make Genny fight them. She won't be okay, and fighting through the pain is going to break her more than not.
