Morning Jog [M/CC]

It had been a bit of a jog to catch up with the man, but Ryuji had managed to catch up to the man and his Arcanine as the crosswalk as the light turned red. The group was offered a nice chance to cool down as he'd flash a smile at the man. It was a bit of an awkward start, but he was sure a bit of small talk would be sufficient to help smooth things over. The redhead found his eyes to wander across his form and linger for a moment before he pulled them away and wiped his forehead free of any sweat. Working out had been a tad more difficult when you had such long hair. It was enough to cause his cheeks to turn a faint red color.

"A pleasure to meet the both of you. I, ah, didn't know anybody else would be out this early. So this is a welcome surprise."

Ace sniffed around Gwyn, his tail wagging all about as the canine let out a friendly bark. His fur, while a tad bit unkempt in some areas, show some scars here and there. Little nicks and cuts of a time long past. Ryuji held an arm down to place on Ace's head as he'd continue to try and make small talk with Gunner. It was strange, he hadn't normally been able to talk much with people around, though found himself glancing towards Gunner every now and again before swinging his head away to scan around them. "x"

But something made him feel uneasy. He tensed up, hands balling as he felt something egging him on from behind them. As the Rocket goon would come closer, he'd be swinging his head around before noticing them both. Green eyes went to the trademarked letter adorning their uniforms before his pleasant face had all but vanished, replaced with an expression of silent fury. "You've made the worst mistake of your life stepping foot in this town." His tone had become far more grim, with Ace looking over with a harsh growl.

"If you value your lives, you'll get down on the ground or be scorched off of it."

"It has its charm when the universe doesn't seem to be ending every other second month of the year." Ryuji chuckled, keeping his hands in his pockets while observing Calci currently struggle against a Dhelmise that had gotten the Vaporean entangled in its vines. Mint seemed to have a solid grasp on things as Ryuji was busy watching after Ace and his tendencies to start digging every which way when not currently under supervision. "But it's a very nice place to live. I've met a few interesting people, worked as a lot of jobs too. Most people don't really even believe me when I say I used to be a police officer." he mused, watching as Ace would shaking a loose tree as a little Shuppet would bumble out in an aggressive manner. Ace let out a few barks and growled at the beast.

Ryuji let out a sharp whistle as his canine recalled back to him. The Shuppet gave chase as he watched until it was committed to its attack. "Heel and Flare Blitz, Ace." The Arcanine dug its paws into the ground, turning around quickly before it pounced at the attacker, massive flames swallowing his form as it collided with the ghost type. While it would fumble around, Ryuji tossed an empty Pokeball at the being and continued.

"I'm sure you're enjoying your time here. If you're part of the select few that jump to action when things happen, you'll never be bored at least. How'd you meet your Vaporean? Did you two meet up when it was still an Eevee?"

Hm, did the Vaporeon seem so wildhearted? Ryuji had thought it would be the type to really go about behaving when it had returned with a devilish little nip at the boy's ankle. Mint did have Ryuji agree on the ensemble, having found himself chuckling at the mention. That strange feeling in his chest started again, a warmth sent through while he'd have to adjust his stance and try and change the subject. Thankfully, his lifeline came in the form of that little tidbit about Kanto. Mint seemed to take interest and ask him about the region while Ryuji slowly nodded his head. "A little before the "dome" got dropped. I was part of the last Kanto forces before we got pushed out." he said as his tone would soften a little at the topic that always dug under his skin, "Despite how long ago it feels, it's hard to believe that happened only a few years ago. What about you?"

"Fair enough. I'm not much for more than one or two myself. When you work as a bartender, alcohol tends to lose its flavor rather quickly when you make it yourself." He mused, Ace pitter pattering up to Ryuji's other side. His warm fur retained some of the heat kept by digging around for the herbs. The Arcanine's claws were stained with snow and muck but Ace himself was in chipper spirits. Maybe he could burn off enough energy to fall asleep tonight and not wake him up for a midnight outing. Ryuji placed his hands in the sea of orange fur to warm them up while looking down to the girl and her Espeon as they walked through the woods. "But only if I can get a sip of the Wine once you're done~" he teased, sticking his tongue out at her playfully.

Ace let out a satisfied bark as Calici looked pretty of the comments shown to her. He smirked to himself but would turn heel to show the boy known as Mint some manners. The redhead bowed his head towards the blue haired male. "Mint. That's a fitting name for your hair." Ryuji nodded while recalling Ace back to his side while he'd nod to the smaller boy. "You're fine. I was killing time anyway. Your Vaporeon is pretty well trained. The ones I used to see back in Kanto were always so rowdy." The man put his hands back inside of his pockets as they'd continue forward down the route as their conversation continued on. Ryuji was making an effort to keep away from most of his personal life but was happy to answer any other questions the other boy had for him.

A bit further into their walk, a wild Slowking would emerge from the brush. It would let out a soft cry before just...staring at the two. It held a berry in its hand while Ryuji would stare at it blankly. "Is that a...Slowbro?" he said in a confused fashion, having never encountered such a weird looking Pokemon before. But why did the Cloyster move to its head? He stood perplexed for a moment as the Slowking chomped down on the piece of food it had in its mouth. It would pick up a pokeball with its mind and hold it at the ready, as if trying to throw it at either of the two humans. "Hehe, guess we'll be two for two today. Ready Ace?" Ace let out a happy bark, jumping in front of his trainer as the Slowking only looked at the two of them mysteriously before psyching itself up with psychic energy. Its form began to emit a pink hazed around it as the powers it had no doubt were super strong. "Alright, Ace! Let's give him a Flame-"

The Slowking must have lost track of its mind, as the pokeball fell down from being held up in the air so long, knocking him on the top of his head as he'd be pulled inside the capsule. It rocked back and forth a couple of times before emitting a green light. "..."

Well, the child showed their true colors rather quickly. Nagi's question was met with the dry sarcasm and humor that a minor could afford, while the kid would be protected in a sygna suit and gloat about around them. Ah, the cockiness and insubordination of youth. Ryuji exhaled but would cross his arms underneath his chest and proceed to offer Nagi a glance out of confusion. The both of them had been (rudely) told that their assistance probably wasn't needed, so should they let the tyke go? Red eyes shifted to the girl...boy?...Whichever it was, Ryuji would shrug silently at the bespectacled man before something seemed to be amiss. The Pokemon beside her would seem to sense that all was not well on this mountain, as the Luxray sniffed the air gathered around it. The Mesprit was just staring as if transfixed by something. It brought Ryuji on edge as his anxiety was starting to spike. The air around them grew warmer, with the red head letting out a soft cough at the now warmer air flowing into his lungs while something shined in the skies above, bathing everything in a fierce light.

"What is that?" Ryuji asked through several coughs of hot air before then being treated to pillars of fire casting everywhere, causing him to stumble back as the terrifying screech of a bird of prey is let through the air. The sound is loud and treated the Kanto man to a temporary bout of tinnitus as he spun around to catch the girl being pulled back by somebody else that had not been with them before. "Was this some kind of set up?" he asked Nagi before the Mr. Mime would protect the group with a well timed Protect. Ryuji braced for impact as the attack slammed against the barrier. His heart raced at seeing the aggressor of that attack, going back to Nagi for a second opinion.

"Are we fighting that thing or running away? I'm not too sure about if our plus two are in the mood to help us tackle this thing."

"I get that a lot." Ryuji smirked at Lis, taking a moment to just watch as she'd go and get the herbs into a pouch awaiting inside of a pouched on her person. "I like to call it seeing the good in people. But my boss just calls it being naïve. It's too cold to really be chasing people through the woods anyway." The smaller girl stood up and he rose up to his own and whistled three times in rapid succession. Ace popped his head back up and trotted back over to his side while Ryuji moved to brush the snow off of his pants and nod to her proposed agreement.

"A walk back to town sounds nice. Glad we could lend a hand in getting you that wine."

He set off besides Lis and would make his way back to town beside her. The redhead kept his hands in his pockets while the four of them would pass by trees. "Up for a drink when we get back?"

Ace let out another bark, having managed to somehow dig a hole the size of the average Arcanine. The redhead's view looked up as he groaned, letting out a sharp whistle. "Not so deep, Ace! We're only digging under the snow." Ryuji continued packing the snow to his right and exposed some of the grass and herbs underneath for Lis to view in some hopes it was what she might have been looking for. "Both are noble reasons at least. This world could always use some more generosity in times like these." The man mused, chuckling to himself while his pawing continued. Ace shook his fiery orange fur while starting to burn the snow away while making sure not to touch any of the other trees around them. Ryuji debated making him stop, but he seemed controlled enough to not allow himself to go overboard.

"Are you cold, Lis?" Ryuji asked, motioning to the heavy trench coat that he wore over his shoulders, "I don't want you to catch a cold or something out here."

Morning Jog [M/CC]

Ryuji had been mainly busy up at the crack of dawn like most days that seemed to blend together with one another. After pushing Ace off of him as he normally did, the Kanto man greeted the day by making breakfast, coffee and then a morning jog. Today was just like any other as his long red hair bobbed up and down with every step taken. While not entirely desolate in the early part of the morning, Rustboro was still fairly active at this time of the day, as bakeries were preparing to open for the day while employees set up the first of many batches of sweets and pastries. His sweet tooth yearned for one but he forbade himself in indulging in anything after the recent new year festivities had concluded. Ace ran beside him, panting and letting out a cheerful bark at any passing person nearby. All seemed so calm and quiet before the sound of somebody coming up from behind him would catch Ryuji's ears. His unease heightened as a shiver ran down his back. His already quick heartbeat was picking up the pace. Ryuji looked behind him to see another man jogging behind him. His pause had caused Ace to freeze in place as well, now blocking the entirety of the road. Once the man had called out to him, Ryuji would step aside for him and exhale in relief.

He cursed his past experiences and continued on, hoping to catch up to the man and offer an apology for his slipup. It took but a few seconds of increasing his pace before the blonde found himself with Ryuji running beside him, with Ace hopping along behind them.

"Sorry about taking up the road. I...thought you were somebody else." Sure, it was pretty much skating over a big issue, but there wasn't really a need to spill his life story onto another stranger on a first conversation. "I'm Ryuji, and that's Ace behind me. I guess we thought we would be the only people jogging at this hour of the morning."

"Hm?" Ryuji tilted his head up to see an azure colored blur racing in front of him while Ace was more than happy to have some friendly competition with another pokemon. Some other feet would come up next to him as he looked over just in time to see a blue haired boy next to him would run up in chase of his pokemon. "It's fine. Every Pokemon has to get them eventually, huh?" he mused, then swinging his head towards Ace as a lavender colored blur would take him by surprise. A few barks and the Arcanine had been growling as a nearby Mismagius. He frowned, though would hurry nearby as the wild Pokemon would take its attack at the Arcanine. It let out a shriek as a ghastly colored flame would shoot out at Ace. The Arcanine recoiled from the impact, but waited until the order was given to attack. Ryuji called out, "Ace! Flare Blitz!" With a howl, the canine burst into flames and lunged at the Mismagius at Extreme Speed, knocking it away as it would take a moment to regain its footing from the recoil.

Ryuji was tempted to tell it to use Flamethrower, but the close proximity of the trees would no doubt cause a wild fire to start. Best to keep it simple for now. "Play Rough!" he called out. Ace would hop around the ghost type before scrapping with the Mismagius, biting, gnawing, all around tomfoolery! The lavender spectre was in pretty rough shape, wobbling around as Ryuji would hesitate on what to do. He really didn't know if he was ready for another full Pokemon team after what happened in Kanto. But he couldn't just leave the poor thing here. The redhead frowned but his hands would move by themselves, tossing the Pokeball at the ghost type as it was recalled into the ball. A few wobbles and it was as good as caught. Ryuji returned to Ace and checked around the canine.

"You alright, buddy?" The Arcanine barked in response, licking his trainer's cheek as he replied back with some affection. Ace loved having his neck fur be teased, panting as he slobbered all over the place.

"Calici, hm? That's a nice name. Sorry, I'm Ryuji. It's nice to meet you."

"A pleasure to meet you, Lis, Dianthus." The Kanto man gave a bow of his head before continuing to dig around for the ingredients in question. His red hair stood out amongst the softer colors of the forest both were in as much as his Arcanine, who was already digging to his heart's content. "Are we looking for something in particular or going about this from step one? I'm sure Ace can melt the snow away to make things go a bit easier if that would help our search any." he asked just in time to be hit in the face with a bundle of snow from the Espeon. He sat still for a moment while Lis chuckled to herself and proceeded to wipe away the residue as she spoke up again about her partner who was going about his own search for ingredients. Crimson eyes shot to the Espeon in a short wave of his hand, though he wondered if the poor thing even saw. Hopefully she wasn't freezing out here.

Lis asked Ryuji about what he was doing out here as he continued to dig into the earth while answering. "You could say that." he smirked, musing about his walk out of the house and getting some fresh air. Hoenn had seen its fair share of battles and there was little time for breathing room directly after a meteor had nearly carved out a chunk of the planet. It almost made what happened in Kanto just appear like any other day in the cosmic scheme of things. "Sometimes I just need to clear my head of things." Ryuji said, "I'm just a guy trying to find a purpose, same as everybody else. And sometimes, the best way to help yourself is to help others."

He tossed his snow pile away from himself to make room for the next and would exhale, shaking his hands free of snow. "I'm still working on it though. What about you two? Just in the mood to hunt down things to make a legendary wine out of the blue?"
