Despite his order, Optimus didn't move to help, instead watching the tomatoes tear their vines from the earth as if it were the most normal occurance in the world. Was it because this was where it came from? Had he made a mistake attempting to rely on something the Ultra Deep Sea itself had created to try and stop its assault against them? Colton looked to Arti, ready to order the Rotom to take over and free the others, but it had vanished without a trace.

Colton barely had time to process the absence of his partner when pain arced through his body. His muscles seized as he felt the familiar stinging burns of electricity, only turned up to an unbearable degree. It pulled away for a moment, but there was no reprieve as he collapsed to the ground. His body spasmed as he feebly tried to crawl away, sparks crackling off of his back and fingers. "O-optimus...help..." he weakly called out to his Pokemon. Clanking footsteps marked the Iron Valiant's approach, adding to the din of screams and messy eating. He didn't dare look up, didn't dare try and see what horrors were playing out in the grove. All he saw was Optimus' foot rearing back before its metal leg connected with his jaw.

Colton felt his teeth shatter, the coppery taste of blood filling his mouth as he was knocked onto his back. His vision was fading in and out as he rolled onto his side, coughing up a puddle of red with flecks of white mixed in. His head was swimming, hardly aware of the black wires slowly crawling across the ground and wrapping themselves around his arms. It was only when the wires grew tight, squeezing and twisting his limbs and sending white hot pain through his body, his mind instantly becoming aware of how much pain he was in.

The wires snapped tight, breaking his arms as he was slammed into the cave wall. Pain unlike anything Colton could ever imagine filled every nerve on his body. He couldn't form a coherent thought as his body was mangled and twisted into an unnatural shape, yet there was one clear message that was seared into his mind: there was no security in this place, no solace to be found in the technology of their world. He was subject to the mercy of Ultra Space and he would find no escape from their wrath. More wires reared up, poised like cobras waiting to strike as electricty sparked off of their exposed ends before they latched onto his chest. He couldn't even scream as his vocal cords were burnt to a crisp.

And then, he was back in front of the communication array, tools in hand as if he had never stopped working on it.

Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki Navy

Colton looked around at the swarming Aggron, taking down notes of their behavior as Optimus walked alongside him. The Iron Valiant was acting as quite the effective bodyguard, its personality quite different from MM's. It made him wonder just what kind of dreams conjured them both up in the Ultra Deep Sea. It reminded Colton of the knights of old, ready to defend the weak with honor and bravery.

"Okay, Optimus. Let's test your combat capabilities. I've got a couple of tests in mind to see what..." Colton said, more talking to himself than to his Pokemon as he went down his checklist. He became so absorbed in his research that he didn't notice that one Aggron decided that the pair had gotten just a little too close. Heavy stomps shook the earth as it charged towards Colton, its head lowered and horns gleaming in the low light to skewer the small man.

In response, Optimus' eyes flashed and it swiftly stepped in between the charging Pokemon and its master. With a flourish of its double ended blade, the Iron Valiant caught the Aggron by its horn, twisting both itself and the charging Pokemon to shift its momentum and swing it clear over Colton's head. His papers scattered across the stone floor and the wind knocked his glasses askew, the Aggron roaring as it crashed against the wall and slumped to the ground.

Colton slowly looked back over his shoulder, then back towards Optimus. "T-Test completed..."

Once they had finally settled into the grotto, much of the next three days were a familiar site for Colton. Wires and metal and electronics. He had his own little pack full of any tools he would need to properly set up any and all electronics and power in the area. So, while Navy and his Pokemon worked on setting up the garden, defenses, and what could loosely be called "housing," his own were helping him run wires and set up self sustaining batteries.

It didn't take long for for the walls of the cave to be lined with yards of wire and string lights, illuminating the space around them and even running into the rooms Navy's Pokemon had dug out. It was a mess of colors and lines that only Colton could ever hope to decipher, but it ran in ways that let different groups turn off and on separate from others, while still having outlets that ran independentaly of it all. If central heating and air hadn't been too heavy and impractical to bring along, he would have figured out a way to make it work as well. All they would need is to maintain the solar and dynamic batteries he had in different spots around the grove.

To Colton, it was pleasant work, one that kept both his hands and mind busy and off of the space around him. Rather, in the evenings, when the work was done for the day and they were each left on their own, his mind always wandered to the Ultra Deep Sea. This alternate reality that could bring both dreams and nightmares to life, two of which he carried around on his waist. Robotic Pokemon, birthed from the wishes and desires of others. It was everything Colton could dream up to simply try and figure out how their biology worked, but it also instilled a deep fear in him. Did he even dare to imagine what else could exist within this place, for fear that his imagination would be turned against him and bring his very nightmares into reality?

The third day had been spent much the same for Colton, this time attempting to set up the communications array. It was being particularly stubborn and he had elected to forgo the food Navy had prepared for the time being as he fiddled with wires, dials, and switches. "I certainly hope they appreciate all this effort. My fingers are starting to go raw working with all this small stuff," he answered without looking towards the other two. His focus on his work kept him from noticing the vines that began to wrap themselves around Tsubaki's body.

But Arti did.

True to Colton's orders a few days before, the Rotom had been keeping a watchful gaze on Tsubaki to make sure nothing happened to her. Now that something was, Arti went into action. Its began to beep rapidly in various pitches, a clear panicked tone to its cry as it knocked itself against Colton's body. "What's your deal? You see a ghost or -" His voice caught in his throat as he turned around to see what was going on.

"Navy!" Colton shouted, pulling Optimus' Pokeball from his waist and releasing the Iron Valiant out. "The vines!"

Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki Navy

Zamazenta was truly a sight to behold. While it was true he hadn't seen the legendary dog before, Colton would be hardpressed to say he couldn't identify it on sight. It certainly couldn't be the small, weasel-like creature with broken blades jutting out of its mouth like two vicious fangs, but that creature still remained a mystery. Perhaps it was one of the "creatures of ruin" the briefing on spoken on...

Speculating wasn't beneficial in that moment, however, as the Avanlache grew closer and Rockets from all around focused their attacks in on Zamazenta. Colton clicked one of the Pokeball's at his waist, Optimus appearing from it in a flash of red, standing tall and proud with its twinblade at its side. "Follow the paths everyone has cleared ahead through the Avalanche to get to Zamazenta,"he said, pointing towards the magnificent golden shield gleaming in the distance, the Iron Valiant's gaze following along until it settled on the legendary. "Once you're up there, use WIDE GUARD to defend it from all the attacks coming in!"

Optimus' digital eyes flashed twice in confirmation before it dashed off, gracefully running along the path built by others and even along the avalanche itself until it had reached Zamazenta. The neon liquid flowing around its body glowed bright as a large barrier formed around it, aiming to create a protective bubble over the legendary Pokemon. As for Colton, he was quick to scramble behind John Sullivan 's own Wide Guard.

Burnout braced himself as the stone smashed into him, making him skid back slightly, but though he wasn't hurt too much. The Revavroom shook the dust and pebbles off his body, his engine whining higher as toxic purple flames spat out of his cylinders as he SHIFTED GEARS.

He began to ready himself for another charge in towards the Kabutops when his singular eye catches sight of Temp going in for an attack on Colton. His poor trainer was tripping over himself, trying to stay away. Practically defenseless in the face of such a sudden assualt.

Without much other option, Burnout's mouth spread wide, his tongue hanging out as he spate a powerful GUNKSHOT right in front of the assailant, aiming to keep Temp back and unfortunately exposing himself to the Kabutops.

Tempest Quinn

Colton didn't acknowledge Paxton's entrance beyond a grunt of a greeting, though his voice was muffled from his position. He was tucked into the back corner, his smaller frame blocked from view by equipment and cabinets as he leaned into a microscope. "Intresting..." he mumbled to himself, jotting down a few notes on a pad next to him when sudden, loud shouting drew his attention.

He stood up straight, peeking around the cabinet to see a familiar face brandishing a Pokeball at MM, the Iron Moth only staring back passively. Or rather, seemingly so. What Colton had once taken for an emotionless machine, he'd begun to see flickers of emotions in its digital eyes. And, based on the shape its "irises" took and the low hum emanating from its body, he could tell MM was almost challenging the man to attack.

"H-Hey now! There's no need to panic!" Colton threw himself between his Pokemon and Paxton, one hand pushing back against its metal body, while the other was held up in a "stop" gesture. He smiled sheepishly at his guest, before turning back to MM with a scowl. "Didn't I tell you not to be so aggressive? We're among friends in this building, so you don't need to go around melting all my equipment because you get excited."

The moth let out a series of whirs and beeps and it almost looked like its irises rolled around on the screens it had for eyes, but it obeyed, floating back and closer to the ground to give Paxton space. "That's better. Now, where were we..." he said, turning back to back to Paxton and extending a hand. "Glad we're able to meet under better circumstances, but I have to admit, I wasn't expecting an alias the first time."

Colton considered what Navy had said, thinking back to what he had witnessed in the depths of that ship. How Tsubaki had been beckoned by the call of the deep, the creatures made of flesh and meat embracing her and threatening to take her where only madness lay. She had wanted to go, completely entranced by the singing of those monsters.

Had anyone they found dead in there actually wanted to be rescued?

"If you say so," was all Colton said, giving a shrug of his shoulders. Voicing that thought probably wouldn't have been good for morale, but they had just barely escaped from that horrible place, in no small part due to Tsubaki's strange behavior. This place had an effect on people, digging deep into their psyche to turn their darkest fears, traumas, and secrets against them, with some being easier to pick apart than others. With how quickly Tsubaki had given in, Colton could only think of her as a liability for these expeditions, so it made no logical sense as to why Navy had insisted she come with them.

But there was no logic to it, not in the way that Colton would understand. To him, these expeditions were purely for research purposes, to better understand the Ultra Deep Sea and the creatures that resided there. But that just made him the third wheel, entirely unrelated to why Navy and Tsubaki were here. For whatever reason, there was something here for them, something that they could only understand by enduring whatever mental torment the Sea sought to inflict upon them.

Colton pulled back on MM's horn as the group stopped above the grotto, adjusting his glasses as he studied the space. "As good as any spot in this place. Even after setting everything up, we can't drop our guard," he said, pushing down on his Iron Moth's, it's wings moved above their heads an dbegan to spin again, slowly lowering them down to the ground.

Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki Navy

Colton wasn't sure why he had come back to the Ultra Deep Sea. Why he had willingly decided to dive back into this hellhole and risking madness with every step. Truthfully, he didn't really have to ask himself that question to know the answer. Curiousity, plain and simple. As terrifying as Ultra Space was, he was just as equally fascinated with it and the things it produced. Namely, the two robotic Pokemon that he had collected during the battle against Team Rocket. What were they and what purpose did they serve wandering the endless depths of this alternate reality?

It was that curiousity that served as the only thing grounding Colton back to reality, letting him keep his head about him when he'd be unable to even consider stepping foot through the rift. If anything, he was far more concerned with Navy's decision to bring along Tsubaki again. He could see it in her face, already. That same fixation with the eldritch beckoning. It was a complete gamble on how long she'd stay lucid before whatever creatures resided here decided to rear its ugly head to drag her down into its depths.

Then, as if possessed, Colton watched her eyes focus, conversing with something that wasn't there. He narrowed his eyes, looking back and forth between Tsubaki and the empty air in front of her. He reached down to his waist, pulling Arti's ball out and releasing the Rotom. "Stick by her, Arti. Make sure she doesn't get too far away from the group, but keep your distance," he instructed. After what had happened last time, Colton felt he had to take some precautions. He had the feeling that if they let their guard down even once, it could spell disaster...

"Feels like that should have been the first step before we jumped feet first into Moby Dick's cousin's belly," he remarked, urging MM to speed up. He had been using the Iron Moth to pull him through the air, hanging on to one of its horns as its wings spun like a propeller to keep itself moving forward. The creature didn't seem to mind all that much, likely just pleased to be back int its home dimension more than anything else. "What's our ETA and do we have anything set up as a marker as the ideal spot? Coverage from the elements, easily defendable..."

Colton began rambling on the theoreticaly this they would need to properly establish a camp out here, all the while, Arti was floating a short distant behind Tsubaki, its eyebrow raised in confusion.

Colton returned her smiling, nodding in understanding at her answer. That was certainly quite the achievement, one that he hoped he would be able to reach himself. Though, he wasn't quite sure what his "white whale" would be. There were hundreds and hundreds of Pokemon, after all. Maybe he wouldn't know until he found it.

With his battle complete, Colton turned back to see Shalin mounting up on her Ninetales. "O-Oh, if you're worn out, then you don't have to push yourself with a demonstration!" he said. "There will be other times! One where you're less likely to hurt yourself."

Colton offered a reassuring smile when the sound of an engine revving drew his attention. Instinctively, his hand went to Burnout's Pokéball, pulling from it from his waist and, as expected, his Revavroom was still there. He raised an eyebrow, only for the engine revving to be joined by heavy stomping, the sources revealed to be a Varoom and a Duraludon.

As Arti, still floating by and ready to go, was already releasing its THUNDER WAVE to paralyze the steel dragon, Colton looked down at Burnout's Pokéball as it wiggled indignantly, almost as if he was aware that another one of his species was around. "Don't worry, buddy. I'm not replacing you," he said, placing the Pokéball back on his belt and replacing it with an empty one. Then, as Arti HEXED the Duraludon, he tossed the ball at the wild, enveloping it in bright red light.
