She almost didn't want to look up, but despite even her deepest desires fighting against her, she did anyways to catch a glimpse of Mirabella's smile. Truth be told, Naia didn't know where she stood with her friend, on one hand she was relieved, happy even, to hear her voice again. Memories of them together at parties, fashion and dresses, but with those memories brought back the anxiety.. [break][break]

Together with Mirabella was also with people they shouldn't haven't be with.[break][break]

Technically speaking she didn't do anything wrong, many rockets live their lives out in pretend alongst those in league, Naia did the same too.. It was just hard to shake this feeling, if Mira would be willing to lie or keep Naia's secret, how many more did she keep? If she was already dancing on the edge of loyalty.. when would she leave? Naia couldn't trust her because Naia was too scared to loose her.[break][break]

“I almost didn’t recognize you with all that newfound fire in your eyes. You've grown since we last spoke—though I can’t imagine why you went to all this trouble just to see me.”[break][break]

"I haven't changed that much." Once those words left her mouth, Naia would place down her glass just to have a finger idly trace the bottom rim of it with her finger nail. Before however she could speak again, Mirabella continued. what was on her mind, huh? A lot of things, too many things. Where did she start?[break][break]

With a gesture of her hand Naia would show off the seat across from her, her eyes closing as she concentrated on what exactly she wanted to bring up. "It has been a long time.." A year. A small fraction of her life, but already Rocket went into war and people she loved died and came back as monsters. "I wanted to catch up and figure you out."[break][break]

She didn't plan to beat around the bush, that helped no-one, "Why did you keep my relationship with Remiel Calcifet a secret?" There was no familiarity in her voice when she said his name, it was more akin to emotional exhaustion.

Rustboro just felt like the right place to have a conversation like this, the location in itself held a lot of sentimental value to Naia. Here was the first time she met Ashley Shepard, where she first killed a person, where she came out to for her very first group outing. Rustboro was home to a lot of Naia's firsts and even tonight it still upholds that tradition.[break][break]

Tonight was going to be Naia's first time reaching out to a friend.[break][break]

Naia had already been waiting for Mirabella Fontaine in the VIP room, having arrived there nearly 30 minutes early, a strange habit she picked up from her mother, but one that gave her time to think and prepare herself. How was her friend going to react to Naia now? That thought plagued Naia's mind as a hand would reach for her hair, a single finger coiling around a portion of hair only to find that it could barely wrap around her finger anymore.[break][break]

Then again it wasn't just her appearance that changed, the inside did as well. Loneliness, loss, betrayal and understanding can really change a person. Not only did her mother manage to dig her claws deeper into Naia than ever for the last year, when she was finally able to return the only solace she had was completely destroyed by Ashley and Isaac Merlo, the very people she dirtied her hands for all those months.[break][break]

But why was she surprised?[break][break]

She knew they wanted to leave.[break][break]

That begged the question-- Did Mirabella too? Naia would have picked up her martini glass, pressing it to her lips as she'd take just a small sip. She was only nursing her drink up till this point as to make it a point to not get drunk tonight. Too much was on the line for Naia, and Mirabella as well and she wanted to be sober enough to save a friend.[break][break]

Now more than ever Rocket needs loyalty.

An eyebrow would slightly furrow when his mask suddenly lit up, it wasn't out of annoyance by any means, but Naia was a bit taken a back. She'd expect to see something like this in a video game, but to see it in real life felt very surreal, and even more so she wasn't expecting to see a smile like this. The only people who showed enthusiasm like him were.. insane. Dorian and Hitoshi did leave quite an impression on her.[break][break]

"You don't got an alias?"[break][break]

Naia would shake her head, waiting for him to finish talking before she'd add, "No.. I thought those were given.." she was unsure of herself when she said that, almost embarrassed that she didn't even think of using an alias up till this point. Then again, it wasn't like the people who would hear her name should live long enough to really do anything with it.[break][break]

"Our work today's easy. The little boat is gonna transport as much cargo as it can carry back to base. I'll move the leftover."[break][break]

Naia couldn't help but fidget in place, the same anxiety from before seemed to be swirling with a sense of shame from the earlier fretting she was doing just mere minutes ago. Even more so this mission sounded a lot easier than others she participated in, then again she did partake in a Pokémon smuggle operation that resulted in a bloodbath so anything could actually happen. Then the most important question came in.[break][break]

At first Naia opened her mouth but cut herself off as she realized she was going to use a filler word anyways to gather her thoughts before eventually continuing, "I've done a smuggle mission.. but if I had to pick a specialization.." She paused, was she even good enough to consider her purges? "I have a medical background and.. I've taken on a few assassination missions." Naia bit her bottom lip underneath her face mask as she'd avoid eye contact with his mask.[break][break]

"My father runs a back-alley clinic which I help him in. So I have hands-on experiences with both. But, I--" Naia's face would tense up as she'd anxiously pull at her cloak for support. How did I give birth to such a failure? Remembering her mother's words, Naia would almost re-posture herself before taking in a deeper inhale to calm herself back down to a neutral. However as she spoke up, Naia would make a point to give the beast "eye-contact" out of respect, "I prepared thinking it was simply another purge. I apologize."

If you were to ask Naia how she felt about winning this battle, she'd probably say nothing. Thinking back on the missions and battles she had up to this point, Naia was steadily coming to understand that a piece of her was missing from her, something she saw far clearer in Jayden's words. Passion. Drive. Reason.[break][break]

People like Dorian found pleasure and joy in the work he did. Ashley before Naia left Hoenn even felt purpose, and while Isaac was always on the fence he at least strived for a goal, but what did Naia want. Rocket was just simply is for her, nothing more than the air she breathed-- but is that loyalty?[break][break]

To Naia, Jayden's words of spite were only for himself, the mangled bodies crushed underneath rubble of his Doublade's attack couldn't respond back, little alone hear what he was saying. Did Jayden really believe that they were the law? Was the world that Jayden see that much different than Naia?[break][break]

Still as the adrenaline begun to die down, and the gravity of reality was settling in is place. "How are you holding up?" Naia's concern was evident, especially as she'd quite literally drop her own weapon in exchange for getting her medical bag ready. "We should continue here. It's better than moving you around too much." [break][break]

If Jayden so pleased, Naia would opt to prop his body up against the wall so she can get back to finishing her work from before hand. "You promised." She'd painfully add to further entice him to listen, much like a child upholding those words as if they were the law. At least with this, Naia was far more confident, years of her life in medical school wouldn't let her own compared to only the couple she had in rocket proper. [break][break]

However the longer she worked at his wounds, and really seen the extent of the damage a pit of ugly feelings welled up in her stomach, "Do you always disregard yourself when you fight?" It wasn't even by design that she vocalized her thought, her mind was so focused on her work that it was more like she was speaking to herself than really him, but from the way her lips pressed into a tight line. It was very obvious that it upset her.

There was something about what influence Jayden put around him, this uncomfortable feeling to Naia that bordered along the line of fear. Perhaps it was because she knew innately that it stemmed from a being far larger than she could ever understand and a beast that was too dangerous to be this close too. [break][break]

"I have my own weapons to use." [break][break]

Still despite all of that, Naia knew that with the small glimpse she managed to catch on his face, it was just Jayden underneath it all. If anything, in a weird and twisted way, this only further solidify her desire to grow a lot stronger so she doesn't even flinch at whatever powers he may have.[break][break]

"But I promise, I won't use the ones who harm me."[break][break]

"I appreciate that." Naia would fidget with the gun in her left hand as they walked through the walls, while out of the two it was her weaker side she did make sure to practicing firing with both hands in case she ever lost one of them in battle. A small perk of constantly doubting yourself meant that you just have contingency plans for when things inevitably went wrong.[break][break]

By the time his Sableye was in sight, Naia's Thievul would have been patiently waiting by the door, letting the horror scene go uninterrupted as the door was forced open. It did know better than to just rush into battle seeing how it would be at a disadvantage against two, but even so it wasn't the type to not take advantage of the confusion and smoke created by it's SHADOW PANIC.[break][break]

Their pleas would fall on deaf ears and soon was drowned out by the horrifying SNARL, it's goal while focused in on the trainer it was hunting with its ABILITY, it's focus was to rupture the hearing of it's target, and having the resounding echo would catch any Pokémon and trainer near by as well to make communication between them weaker.[break][break]

"Naia. We've found them."[break][break]

She didn't reply verbally but, instead taking a moment to swoop down under his arm so that she could help support him in getting over to the fight faster without straining his body too much in the process. By the time they made it to the doorway was when Naia seen an injured Simisage finish landing what looked to be a third blow from a series of FURY SWIPES on Nat. Seeing how one of their Pokémon was at least busy, Naia didn't waste this opportunity to take aim at one of the trainers and shoot.[break][break]

A sickening crack as she missed her mark on the top of her head and instead cracked against bottom jaw, and irritated sigh left her lips with the same indifference one would have as if they missed a shot as a carnival, and almost with the same amount of embarrassment that would come with it. A tactical retreat from Nat to Naia's side had her already getting ready to make another pounce, signally with a low growl and her furr begun to stand on end.[break][break]

It was childish in a way, but Naia was thankful that her eyes were closed while Remi talked, it was as if they were acting like a barrier between her and the truth she didn't want to see. Just as much as Naia was hurt by Ashley Shepard and Isaac Merlo when they defected from Rocket upon her return, she was sure that she probably caused as much pain from her just suddenly leaving as well. At least, from the way that Remiel talked it hurt him in a similar way. [break][break]
She wasn't innocent in this.[break]

But in it's own strange twisted way, Naia couldn't help but focus in on him missing her back. All she wanted was for a moment to revel in the mere fact that someone loved her enough to miss her in contrast to what her mother instilled into her this past year. Her connections weren't completely useless, there was at least something there.. something she could use to wiggle into.[break][break]

"I think I've always known you were Rocket. I just refused to believe it."[break][break]

It was complicated, even the warmth of his hand almost felt foreign from the uneasy understanding that was growing between them both, making her even question the root of their relationship. Did they ever see eye to eye? No, he choose to close his eyes and she choose to put up a wall. How could anyone truly connect with one another that way? Even still she found herself seeking whatever familiarity came from him, just to bask in whatever small piece of warmth and kindness she grew to love from him.[break][break]

Then he asked why.[break][break]

Why has always been the question, but is there really an answer to something that just is. She took a second to really think it over, to find some way to fully help him understand her situation-- to really understand her. [break][break]

"Why are you a prince? Or your hair is black?" Redundant questions, but ones that made her point. "I was born a Rocket, but you weren't. Why did you become a Rocket? And.." Plenty of questions and thoughts flooded her head as she trailed off. She wondered what grunt Remi was like, how he climbed his way to Admin. What friends he made, what connections he formed. Then truly, what happened that made him abandoned them all, an intruder to league.[break][break]

All she needed to do was just ask, but even as she tried her best to hide it in her face, Naia's heart was beating fast and it was becoming a bit harder to breath. Was this anger? Confusion? Sadness? Perhaps she was projecting all of her resentment to every person who left her onto him, but it made sense. He was the only one who would ever be able to answer her question. [break][break]

Naia this time decided to tilt her head upwards, still choosing to keep her head to rest on his shoulder as she'd do her best to look up at his face. "And why did you choose to abandon your family?" There was the smallest hint of venom in those words, even though she never met him as a rocket, she couldn't help but empathize. She wanted to face this head on, she wanted to see what face he'd make.[break][break]

She wanted to see who he is.

Naia was caught off guard from herself. Never in her life did she think that she would speak up about something she kept to herself all of these years, the mere embarrassment was that truth settling in was nearly enough to bring her to tears but even more so.. Naia wasn't used to talking this much in the first place, it only took a matter of seasons for her to truly understand how much she ranted at a complete stranger. [break][break]

The very high of her emotions slowly settling down as what slithered it's way was the chilled fear of retaliation. Her mother hated when Naia was belligerent --loud about something she was clearly too uneducated to even have an opinion about. What did she actual know about Pokémon? Maybe-- no, he should be the right one. [break][break]

"I.... no.... they're just tools and weapons,"[break][break]

Naia waited for her mother's voice to chastised her, almost too far into her own head to fully hear everything he said till after a second, that was all. It was only just his voice, a bit rattled and uncertain but just his voice. That's right, here it was safe. Here in Rocket she could forfeit everything to just be Rocket. It's okay to make her own choices since here people can believe in her.[break][break]

"Least... that was Kanto way of things,"[break][break]

This wasn't the first time she heard of something similar, but despite living in Kanto growing up and having her family be rocket supporters, her mother almost made it a point to completely isolate Naia. If anything, from the way they spoke of it, almost felt like they were talking about a foreign region. With a small inhale Naia would start off, her eyes meekly more trailing along the table than at him, "I concede. I don't believe you're completely wrong, I do find myself having a hard time naming a Pokémon unless I have some form of connection with them.."[break][break]

With that small bit, lightly flick her pen, watching it roll over her father's notes. Perhaps she was extra harsh because she had a bias towards fathers in general, "I agree that Pokémon are in part tools and weapons, but so are we." They are after all the arms and legs of rocket, blood and bond one could even think. We die for rocket, and fight for it. "And here I call you Raziel and you'd call me Naia. Not human A and B." Naia felt a little bit proud of this comeback, her mood lighting up from how it was just mere minutes, as a had would reach for another sweet. [break][break]

"I'll admit I'm very biased towards this.. I was after all pretty much was raised by my Indeedees.. My mother only cared to educate me. So, I'm more attached to Pokémon than I've seen with others, but even so I keep a sort of grouping." Taking, a couple packets of sweetener, sugar and then some coffee creamers, she'd place them into three different piles, pointing each one out, "I have some I regard as family, others I use for combat and have trust with and then others.. they're tools. I don't think there is anything wrong with that."[break][break]

Once he finally agreed then did Naia sigh of relief, it wasn't much given the situation, but at least it was something. A small win. "Thank you." Truly, from the heart, as Naia watched blood splat on the floor when he went out of his way to summon another pokemon. It was moments like this when Naia really can't fathom why people even bother to question of the loyalty that rockets have to one another.[break][break]

Really only the weak would leave Rocket.. [break][break]

Once.. Nastja paused to look over at Naia, there was a moment of silence between the two, Naia knew of shadow Pokémon that volatile, aggressive, and at worse uncontrollable. Then again this was Jayden's, so she had nothing to worry about. Once his arm hooked with her own, Naia would reach into her satchel and pull out her firearm checking to make sure that it would loaded before offering it to him.[break][break]

She knew that he was probably more than capable of doing something crazy after becoming an avatar but.. with the state of his injuries perhaps this would be better to use. Even offering herself further as support for him, even at the expense of rubbing into his sharp armor so that he could have a better crutch to lean on.[break][break]

"It'll be two more. I've already locked the exits and entrances, so they'll have no choice once we corner them."[break][break]

"Sounds like a plan." This was far better situation than most missions, and at worse Naia had all of her pokemon still left. "I still have other pokemon too." she'd say as she'd eventually recall her Eevee, before she'd take the first step of moving him with her, being sure that he was supported with each step. "They're expendable compared to you.." Even though she was confident in her words she still said the in a hushed tone, especially when she thought by to how she found him.[break][break]

In the end she wondered if it was the same for him, maybe not towards her but towards Rocket in general, which begged another question, "Did you come out here alone?" Perhaps there were more important questions, like what pokemon did they use? Did they have any injuries? Did they follow him in there? Or did he get jumped? But none of those were really at the top of Naia's mind.

Blood was getting into his lungs, and while she could use her Pokémon to try and heal him right now there is a good chance that they would just seal her surface wounds, turning him into a human blood balloon instead.[break][break]

"when did you become a medic?"[break][break]

When? Despite him respecting her in that moment, Naia couldn't help but feel sad. How much did he not know about her, how many years of her life has she kept from him. Not that it mattered right now, all she needed to do was patch him up and then they could talk later. It was just as she had finished up a stitch did she suddenly get shoved.[break][break]

"i don't need pain killers."[break][break]

Naia was in shock when Jayden spoke, her Eevee jumping up to it's feet to growl over at him in a defensive posture as he pushing himself to stand up. "Wait, Jayde--" Her voice was obviously panicked, but even while her mind was racing she still waited for him to finish speaking. Half of her just wanted to chew him out, what he was doing was stupidly dangerous where by the end he could end up permeant injuring himself or worse bleeding out and dying.[break][break]

But on the other hand, could she really argue with him? In the end it didn't matter if it was a maybe, or if he was completely wrong-- on the field he's her superior. That wasn't in question. If he told her to jump, she'd just need to say how high and manage to make it back alive. It should be simple if all he's saying is to follow.[break][break]

Frustrated, Naia would grab onto one of her pokeballs, tossing it down on the ground hard enough that it bounced first before releasing her Shadow Thievul. "Okay.. If I can get a scent on them Nat can track them, if it's strong enough then she could follow them to the ends of the world." That probably wasn't even a hyperbole.[break][break]

Swiping her items off from the ground, Naia would shoot a glance over at Jayden, and more importantly his wounds, a tinge of guilt that she's even going along with this instead of forcing him to stay back, "I could probably get Clare to heal you some, but it would take a while.. Can you promise me that if we find where they are and we're safe you'll let me finish. It's not good." Just as she finished talking, Nat would rush out the exit of the building, seeming to have a target on something that managed to escape out and was on the move.

She felt sick, a twisted feeling of anger and fear in the pits of her stomach, the last time she felt anything similar was when Ashley Shepard faked getting shot in her training, but this.. this wasn't fake at all. who-- Naia bit down on her bottom lip catching herself from saying something in the heat of the moment, she could see whom, or hopefully see most of them, one such body she'd just carelessly kick to the side to get in closer to Jayden.[break][break]

"Yeah, I'm right here." Her voice almost sounded foreign from how tense her voice was a second ago, but right now she needed to be calm for him. "Clare.." Naia would almost speak in a hushed tone as she'd nudge an elbow in the direction of his Litwick. With a gentle nudge from her Eevee's nose into the body of his Litwick's, multicolored sparks twisting into the air as it casted wish before it would lay down beside it and coil its body to hold it in place.[break][break]

"what.. are you doing here?"[break][break]

Now for Jayden, scissors isn't going to help against this.. blender of a suit, to put it lightly. At least it was easy to see where she should be focusing on, as she'd take in a deep breath. "I'm sorry, but this may sting a bit." While she spoke she'd pull out some pliers, making sure to remove any shards of his armor from him being sure to pour some alcohol over his wounds. "I'm here as an on field medic, I figured the fighting here would be worse.." [break][break]

Once she managed to get this part cleaned up, she'd grab a bottle from her bag and washed over the wound, moving onto sewing his wound close. "I'm glad I found you. Just please stay awake, I'll get you pain killers soon." There had to be some inside the base somewhere, once she had him sewn up some more she could grab it. "How long have you been like this? Did any escape?"

There were many ways to find injured people; you can follow their cries for help, follow the trail of blood or stumble upon them. You'd be surprised to see how many people quietly hide away with their injuries, like torracats, just to die away silently. Today alone she managed to stumble on a couple like that, some were too late to save-- so it didn't instill a lot of confidence when she uncovered a nearby secret rocket base to find blood smeared near the entrance.[break][break]

Evening was rolling in, and Naia was running low on supplies. It was why she even choose to head towards one of the bases in the first place, but it wasn't instilling any confidence in her that this would have much to give now. Pulling up her face mask, Naia would quietly made her way inside, letting her Eevee take the lead in case it wasn't a Rocket that found themselves here, it's little ears twisting at any slight sound from within.[break][break]

"Excuse me.." flatly she would say as if casually inviting herself in someone's home. She just wanted to notify whoever was inside that she was approaching because the last thing she needed to was to get hurt from any possible friendly fire, as even her Pokémon would give its own yip as it'd confidently stroll deeper in.[break][break]

While at first Naia was cautious and tense, when she managed to clock the person before her wasn't just any Rocket but Jayden of all people, she couldn't help but relax and go into work mode. She was quickly assessing the situation before she approached, at the very least the amount of blood didn't pose any life threating situations, but who knows how much of it was internal bleeding. "Where exactly are you injured?" She'd recite, sliding her satchel off as she'd follow it onto the ground to take out some supplies, including some alcohol to quickly wash off her gloves. [break][break]

Naia didn't know if she feel comforted by the fact that it was someone she knew, or if she should be upset that someone she cared about was hurt, "Are you injured anywhere else?" She did her best to pace her questions, waiting for him to answer the first one before the next, if he answered them at all. To her even a no answer was one in its own right, "What happened?" a loaded question in itself, but one that could buy her enough time while she'd finished getting everything ready, now with scissors in her hand as she'd test them out with a couple clicks.
