While Dorian's Salazzle shot globs of poison, Medusa, on the other hand, threw balls of fire at the league members on guard duty. Chances were they would dislike the risk of getting scorched or poisoned and would call for backup. When that happened, the two Salazzle would keep the league members' attention on them until Dorian and Ryker could perform the rescue.

What happened after that would be up to Ryker and Dorian. But knowing the two, there would be no survivors on the opposing side.

As the camp came into sight, he was satisfied to see the two Salazzle keeping the league members' attention. One league member made the mistake of trying to grab Medusa, causing him to cry out when it caused lacerations on his hands due to the corrosive nature of Salazzle's skin.

Shaking his head at the stupidity, he turned his attention to his friend. "Do you see anywhere they could be kept?" he asked quietly, his own gaze scanning the camp as he posed the question.[break] dorian westcliff

Burning it down was good enough for him. As long as they died, he really didn't care how it happened. "It will have to be fire. I don't currently have any Pokémon that know water or electric type moves," he said, deciding not to mention his uncertainty about how they would make water work in their favor.

"Before all that, we need to ensure they won't just be able to run out of the tent," he said as he took out a Pokéball and pushed the button, causing an Ariados to appear. "Arachne, use webbing to seal the entrance of the tent. Make sure to stay hidden. We don't want them tipped off," he told the spider Pokémon.

Having received her orders, the Ariados scurried off. "With the entrance sealed, the only escape would be if they had Pokémon that had teleport, phantom force, or any other moves that enable escape," he said before he started to make his way closer to the tent, making sure to be quiet.

Seeing the return of the Ariados, he took out another Pokéball, this time releasing a Salandit from its contents. "I do have a Charizard as well, but a Salandit will be able to get closer without being noticed. Anyway, she can set the tent on fire."[break] Camellia Lemaitre

Mentally cursing himself for allowing someone to catch him off guard, he waited for the dust to settle. Once it did, he found himself face to face with a Metagross, its arms being the obstacle he had to avoid. Not that it mattered. An enemy was still an enemy.

Before he could react to the near miss, a voice calling out to them drew their attention. His focus immediately shifted from the Metagross to what lay beyond it. Just their luck, it was a research camp and everyone was on high alert. The possibility of this escalating into a major fight was high, even if the opposing side seemed hesitant to initiate anything.

Seeing his partner stand down, he motioned for Apollo to do the same. It seemed like they were playing the long game. He could work with that, although he wasn't sure how long it would last.

"We're researchers conducting a study on the Giant Chasm and possibly Area Zero in the future," he said, keeping his tone completely neutral. It wasn't difficult for him to do so, as he didn't fully grasp emotions. Another advantage was that it made him an exceptionally skilled liar, although he hadn't necessarily lied; he had simply omitted some details, such as their affiliations.

Her reaction to him sending Fenris ahead went unnoticed, or perhaps a better way of looking at it would be that he didn't understand it. He didn't understand annoyance or really any emotion for that matter.

Silence lapsed between them as they followed the Mabosstiff towards the camp. Not wanting to get too close and risk detection before they could come up with what to do, he halted before they reached the gaze. The other's voice caused him to turn to her with an unblinking gaze.

As she inquired about a plan, he momentarily turned his attention back to the camp, taking in everything he could about the layout and the number of people they might have to deal with.

"With them in the tent, I can't tell you how many people we might be dealing with. Our best bet would probably be to bring them out in the open and attack. Alternatively, presuming we're not trying to steal whatever research they've managed to acquire, we could make sure they can't get out of the tent and set it on fire," he said simply, resisting the urge to rub his throat. He still wasn't really used to a lot of talking.

Despite his size, stealth wasn't much of a problem for him. Sure, he wasn't as skilled as that masked kid, but considering the kid was about half his size, it wasn't surprising that he was better at stealth. The only reason he was as skilled as he was in stealth was because he had been trained in silent killing, which required a certain level of stealth.

As the other mentioned allowing him to take the lead, he nodded in agreement. Having worked with Dorian a lot in the past and present, he was well aware that stealth wasn't Dorian's strong suit. However, the other had enough potential to work with when it came to stealth.

Eying his friend's Salazzle, he noted that unlike his own Salazzle, this one was shiny. Not giving much thought to the name, he nodded, consenting to the idea of the other Salazzle helping with distraction.

"Medusa, you are to go a bit ahead with Dame Sizzlesworth the Fourth and work as a decoy. Just keep the leaguers' attention drawn to you," he told the poisonous lizard.

Having received her orders, the Salazzle would scurry off in the indicated direction.

If Dorian backed him up on the order, he would get up and indicate that they should continue. "Keep close," he would say, his voice pitched low as he started in the direction the Salazzle had gone, keeping his steps light to avoid any unnecessary noise.[break] dorian westcliff

He eyed the burning tent before his gaze flickered to his partner. It seemed like they had both accomplished their part of the mission. As long as that was the case, he was fine with it. Though he wouldn't have minded taking on one of the dark triad. Oh well, he would just have to make do with having taken out their grunts.

"Seems like you've accomplished your part of the mission as well, well done," he said simply. Considering dishing out compliments wasn't exactly his forte, that was the best that could be expected of him.

Deftly catching the envelope that was tossed his way, he only gave it a brief look over before tucking it away somewhere. "Same to you," he said in response to her question, watching as they both teleported away.

"Ares, it's time to go," he called out to his companion. The Gallade immediately came to his side at the call.

A piercing shriek from the tent distracted one of his opponents, earning him a cut through one eye as a reminder to pay attention to the battle he was in. The grunt attacked him in anger, actually shoving away a few of his companions to get at him. Having no interest in continuing the fight with someone too enraged to properly think his moves through, he cut him down just in time to see his partner slip inside the tent.

Good, she was inside. That meant he could stop holding back in order to buy her some time.

Changing his stance, he gave up all pretense of playing defense and attacked the remaining grunts with a new vigor. Two were taken out immediately, unprepared for his onslaught of attacks, and cut down when they couldn’t keep up. As their bodies hit the ground, he focused his attention on the remaining two, one being cut down with a Psycho Cut from Ares when she tried to run.

Despite the odds being against him, the remaining grunt tried to swing a knife at him. Raising his hand, he used the hidden blade he kept up his sleeve to block the attack before using his other hidden blade to stab him through the heart, killing him.

He wasn't really sure what to say to something like that. Having someone care about him was just strange. Sure, there had been his old mentor who had taken him under his wing. But the older male had always told him it was just business, and outside of training, he had mostly left him to his own devices.

Not knowing what to say, he simply nodded. It was unclear what he thought on the matter, which was unsurprising considering his default expression could be considered impassive.

Unsure what to make of his next reaction, he decided to just not acknowledge it. They had a job to do anyway. It was probably best they got done with their task sooner rather than later.

Silence lapsed between them for a while. Well, not really silence, but there was no talking between them. Surprisingly, it would be Ryker who spoke up, choosing to only give some advice, if it can even be called that.

As the older male promised he would stay on guard, he simply nodded, not bothering with a response since he was busy keeping an eye on their surroundings. A noise from above made him tense, but before he could react, the other male shoved into him.

Being a few inches shorter than the other meant he wasn't moved much, but it did give him the initiative to jump further out of the way to avoid what was dropping down from the ceiling. Trusting that his partner would be able to do her part of the job, he kept his attention focused on the grunts. As the one he had tripped up rejoined the fight, he sidestepped a punch from another one, causing him to stumble as he met no resistance. Finding them was child’s play and he could easily finish them off if he so wanted, but at the moment, in order to buy his partner some time, he was playing with them.

He wasn’t even bothering with any weapons he had brought with him, just dodging and tripping his opponents up. Ares stood on standby, ready to step in if he needed to, but anyone with working eyes would be able to see that his fighting skills outclassed the grunts. It was clear that the grunts usually attacked in groups in order to intimidate their opponents, but as riled up as they were at him, they were fighting more clumsily than usual.

As another swung his fist at him, he went on the offensive, moving his head to one side to avoid the punch and grabbing his fist, yanking him even more off balance. Before he could even get over his shock at him changing tactics, he had already stabbed him in the throat with one of the multitude of knives he kept on his person.

Seeing one of their comrades go down, they briefly hesitated. It was clear they were debating whether or not they could actually take him on. Their own pride got the better of them though, and the battle recommenced.[break] Alexandra Briarwood

He could agree with that. The last thing the League needed was more of an upper hand against them. So hopefully it was just some wild Pokémon making their presence known. And one that hopefully wouldn’t interfere with their mission.

As the rays of the sun intensified, he felt his muscles relax. Not that he became any less alert. He was just enjoying the feel of the sun, not that his expression gave away that he actually took joy in something. He didn’t really understand emotions enough for that to happen.

“They won’t know what hit them,” he agreed as he took a pokeball and released a Salandit from its contents.

The Salandit seemed to enjoy the increased sun as well, if the fact she decided to evolve was any indication.

He only gave the newly evolved Salazzle a brief look before turning his attention back to his friend.

“I don’t mind sneaking in together, that way if it comes to a fight we won’t have our forces split. Medusa can act as a diversion to keep the enemy's attention away from us if she has to,” he stated, gesturing towards the Salazzle for emphasis.[break] dorian westcliff
