“I know it’ll kill you inside when you try to hurt me, but,” he dropped off, realizing that the other had done the little ‘freezing up’ thing whenever they had any kind of physical contact.

“…but I know you’ll find the strength to do it, because anyone else I ask would take it out of context. You at least. You know the circumstances.”

He sighed, once more.

“I wouldn’t ask anyone else but you for something this big.”

It was a hell of an ask, but one with reason.

“I love you, okay? I know you do. You absolutely do, until Hell freezes over. And I know you love me too. Despite whatever… despite whatever fuckery you or I end up doing, we’d know something’s wrong. It’s on sight.”

He couldn’t help but watch in silent wonder as the Vaporeon literally did what they did—dragging the specter across the room and throwing it out the slightly open window; disembodied spectral leg vanishing once they’d done so.

“Wow. Remind me never to get on her bad side,” he cackled quietly, before pulling him down gently back on the couch.

“…maybe we need to call the ghostbusters and have the place disinfected,” he tried; a hilarious failure at humor.

Well, he was trying, okay!

“That,” he would begin—making sure that none of that stupid pink mist would dare show up, “…that was something that can show anyone who sees it, inhales it—their deepest desires… and their worst nightmares all at once.”

It came in three flavors; pink, purple, and then we don’t talk about the black-colored smoke. That was the single worst one ever. He’d already encountered it a few times—albeit not with him—and never wanted to speak of those encounters ever again.

“And it’s been leaking all over the damned region for fuck knows how long.”

He could feel his partner’s trembling arms squeezing him tight, tight, so tight that he felt his own skin going numb; but that was neither here nor there.

“Don’t think about it anymore. We’re here, together, and that’s all that matters.”

In his honest defense, he had no idea he’d been taken in the middle of the night—he last remembered curling up to be the big spoon to his little spoon right here and hiding under the blankets; the next he recalled waking up in that goddamned prison and enduring several hellish days (weeks?) trapped in that space.

He wondered how his cellmate was doing at that moment.

Either way…

“This time, though, Frog, it… it wasn’t my fault. I distinctly remember falling asleep with you in my arms and the next time I opened my eyes I’d been taken to this fucking cell and. And things started happening. Strange, weird things that you might think I’m making up.”

He would leave it at that.

“Also… I’ve been thinking about… about something.”

He hoped his partner would have an open ear to listen to what he had to say. He’d given this a thought while on the way back here.

For the first time since they had the conversation, he would let out this morose noise of—well, it was definitely acknowledgement; but was it the bitter kind or the relieved kind? It was hard to tell.

“This is my absolutely personal bias coloring the next statement I will make, however… unfortunately, yes. Yes, that is correct. The way the government is run out here is seriously making me wonder if any of the other regions have it better or worse. Because apparently, alternative solutions to problems don’t exist here. It’s either you’re on the highway to hell, or you’re out.”

He would then run his hand across his neck in a slicing motion.

“Ever since I raised dissent about how things were run, I noticed that it’s been getting harder and harder for the Sanctuary—to get help or any kind of funding. We’ve kind of mostly turtled in, turned into our own self-sufficient location by this point.”

He sighed.

“And… honestly, if there’s war coming I don’t even know what to do at that point.”

“Miss Bertha!” he would exclaim once more; feeling second-hand embarrassment wafting from his companion. Even the Charizard picked up on it too, because Ravana let out this snort that he could only interpret as an attempt to hide the noise of mirth that was threatening to escape her snout.

“We have places to be, more eggs to deliver,” he would hastily follow up, tilting his head in the direction of the cart that was being guarded by the Plusle and Minun not too far away—his Charizard was already on her way back to the cart—

“Thank you for getting the egg! And take care of it!”

“Child, you know I will.”

He then quickly ushered her out of the flower shop, the embarrassment still clearly wafting from the exchange that had happened!

“…yeah, there’s a reason why she’s one of the many busybodies around here,” he would continue with a little noise a few moments later as he went over to give his Charizard a neck rub.

“Shall we get going and deliver the rest of these omelettes—I mean, eggs?”

“That—that’s why,” he would hiss quietly, looking straight into his partner’s eyes as he said the next words, “…that’s why only you can do it. I trust you. Like how you trust me. We trust each other.”

He would take his partner’s hands as he said these words.

“We trust each other to do this… for one another. You said… you wanted to trust again, right?”

A deep breath would follow after these words, which he would exhale after a few moments.

“We put our trust in each other.”

The last Wooloo that had remained awake to wait up for them had eventually gone over to join his little ‘family’ that was asleep surrounding the couch before settling down himself.

In minutes, William the Wooloo (first of his name) had fallen asleep right beside the shiny Wooloo that was surrounded by all their other ovine children.

“We…can eat, later. When we wake up,” he would mutter sleepily as he spooned his partner while on the couch. “I just… want to be with you. Like this…”

Another yawn would seal the deal and even he would fall asleep, finally home and safe in the arms of the man he loved (and will love forevermore).

The moment the Gengar was bitten on the leg; the specter would let out a howl of displeasure while getting shaken by the Vaporeon—much tempted as they were to lash out with a Shadow Ball; instead the Vaporeon would get a loathing stare filled with nothing but Spite.

“G-g-g-g-g-g-geez,” he would wail; all the hairs on the back of his neck standing up while the Gengar tried to free themselves from the Vaporeon’s biting hold.

“Wh-wh-when did that Gen…gar get inside the TV?!”

There was nothing else to it—he was fucking terrified. With the heebie-jeebies in such close proximity? There was nothing else to it.

He had no idea how to sign the words ‘thank you’ to the bat-dragon; however the moment the mist had dissipated and seemingly returned from whence it came he immediately bolted. Bolted to where his partner had been desperately looking for him.

“Memo!” he would all but scream when he saw the other man.

Not caring if he’d trip over himself as he approached—literally running before falling to his knees and catching his partner in a bone-crushing hug—the need for physical contact to reassure the other that they weren’t alone; that they were here and that they were alright.

“I’m here, I’m here, I’m here…” he repeated quietly; over and over, reassuring his partner that he wasn’t seeing things.

That he was there with him.

“Shh…” he would continue quietly as he felt his partner’s body quiver like an unstrung bow the moment he heard the muffled crying.

“It’s alright, Memo… I’m home now,” he went on, holding the other man as close as humanly possible; the physical reassurance that everything would be alright, that he was present in the here and now.

He just… really needed something salty to eat. However, he would let the other just—take the entirety of him in at this very moment.

“I’m here with you, love. Don’t cry anymore, o-okay?” he would stammer afterward. God, how was the Frog such a natural at affection, and he felt like a prickly cactus whenever he tried to be mushy!

At the mention of mochi, he felt his stomach turn.

That was… hitting a little too close to home now; as he felt the bile rise in his throat. However, he held it down and fought through the pain as he took another light drag from the slim cigarette between his fingers as they walked out through the back of the reception hall and headed outside to the open-air arena.

“With regards to what happened during that time where the mochi became a plague that settled upon the land—honestly, everyone lost track of things until now,” he breathed out, exhaling some smoke skyward before returning his attention back to the other man.

There would be a few moments of silence as he contemplated what the other had to say.

“What of it, what plan do you want to discuss with me?” he would continue in a quiet tone.
