Sometimes, there was such a thing as playing it too safe—and this was one of those times.

He could see the other man’s opening, literally—though with the way he was bringing himself up in the skies, it took a very sharp eye to spot that minute opening as he quickly caught the weak spot in the roll and came screaming in for the final strike—

“Match!” he said as the third strike landed a clean hit before he pulled out of the way to face him.

“You know, you already have the basics of aerial combat down. It’s just that… sometimes, asides from trusting your Pokémon’s instincts, you also have to trust your own up in the air. You left yourself wide open a few times which allowed me to get those hits in.”

Was he preaching to the crowd? He wasn’t too sure.

“You rely too much on offense, it leaves your defenses lacking, or in some cases wide open at times. But that’s for another session, since you did well up here even though it was your first time.”

He then redirected the other to fly back down towards the ground, where he would the slide off his Pidgeot’s back without further ado.

“Let me know what you think.”

It was actually thanks to that he’d found out about what had happened to Miss Elise.

(Considering how he now knew that his royal friend had been tangled with Team Rocket previously, it was understandable why he couldn’t be here today…)

So he was here, stepping in on Remiel’s behalf to bust her out.

Having apologized to that he would be out for the evening and to not wait for him, he’d made his way over to where she was being held captive; ready to bash some heads in with his Salamence’s angry, angry roaring.

(Hell, if he didn’t have a problem with using mega evolution as willy-nilly like his friend, he would’ve come here on the back of said angry Salamence.)

Now, where was she?!

It felt like there was an ominous wind blowing from the direction of the mist where it was being funneled away from them, so to speak…

He then squinted at the rift that was leaking the mist, before he sighed.

“So, love, tell me, how in the ever-living fuck do we close a rift in reality?” he posed the rhetorical question, unable to resist adding a bit of snark to their conversation.

What? He couldn’t help it!

Just as he was about to run out of the room screaming, he heard the scene change, and he looked up in time to see that it was now a boring old office setting.

“Y-you know,” he breathed quietly (secretly extremely thankful that his partner was nearby for immediate security cuddles) as he looked up.

“Whoever ends up ch-chasing the bad guy i-in these movies tends to… get way m-more than what th-they asked for,” he chatted, grabbing a handful of popcorn and stuffing it into his mouth to keep him busy. At least the salty flavor would keep him distracted from all the creepy, heebie-jeebie noises that were coming from the movie that was playing on the screen…

“You know we keep that a secret,” he smiled with this tired expression on his face as he took another sip from the pepperminty mug to calm himself down.

All the while, he didn’t realize how tense his hand had been, so for him to suddenly sigh in relief as the other made to massage his cramped-up hand meant that there was something… wrong.

“I hate how some of this shit has to be handwritten… guess they don’t trust emails that much,” he berated with a sigh as he finally slumped his head down on the table, resting his forehead against the cold surface.

“I detest a lot of paperwork. Reminds me of the time when I had to draw up the reports of the Three-Day War down at Lilycove. It was a damned mess.”


so much paperwork to catch up on the madness never ends

The Sableye’s normal cackling grin was upside-down as he waited for his bumbling human to catch up.

“W-well, where… where is he?” he gasped once he’d caught up to the purple Pokémon, before the Sableye made to leap towards a certain street corner… wait a second, why were the streetlights getting darker?

“L-Loki, y-you better make sure this… this isn’t a trap,” he breathed out, looking up above him and watching the lamp post light flicker.

The Pokémon continued to vigorously point towards the darker part of the street, gnashing his teeth and all that.

Said noise would only continue to get louder the longer they lingered on it.

“Red, or blue?” it repeated, the reverberation of the voice causing the aforementioned air conditioning unit to rattle in place. It was like the thing was about to fly off its hinges…

“D-d-d-d-d-d-did the AC unit… talk?!” he wailed, mentally crossing his fingers and hoping that it wasn’t so. He definitely did not want to be faced by another ghost so early on…

“I-I-I-I think we should… pick,” he breathed out quietly.

“Blue.”

Who knows what would happen, right?

“You know I’m going to be hell-ass concerned for you when that strange thing you do with Shivani over there happens within my line of sight, so…”

After one sip, he then whistled sharply in the Braviary’s direction, making the avian back off.

“Not today, Kyouya. Gabe, you can… go now.”

Without a second word, the Salamence turned tail and departed, which left the Braviary that resumed plucking at his feathers.

“And besides, love, I don’t think Kyouya was trying to attack you, he just… uhm.”

He went pale for a few moments before he took a sharp breath.

“…he just wants to talk with Shivani. We… we had this talk before meeting you out here today.”

It was a step in a direction, at least… because if they were going to make this work, he would have to suck it up and tolerate being around the Banette a lot more often now.

The ovines had gathered and were actually taking bets on the shouting match that was going; obviously Smokey was staying out of it but William was walking around, crown jingling and cackling in Wooloo-speak as the Eeveelutions continued to look back and forth as the shouting match went on.

“Lies!” he shouted from the walk-in closet as he finally marched out with several red, as well as white options and threw them down on the bed.

“You’re the one who knows more about fashion than I do! And I technically don’t count, you know my drag persona’s the one who’s more fashionable than me!” he added.

All the while, the crown was jingling as the Wooloo continued to snicker and take bets.

“You know…” he hummed while he was out of his partner’s reach and finished the candy he was holding.

“It was just one bar!” he added a few moments later. “Not like I’ll go through the entire bag and finish it all in one go,” he followed up.

Still, he thought it was very cute and considerate of the other to sort all the candy by allergen content… until he realized something.

“Wait, are you going by individual or grouped allergens? I know some of them have a lot listed,” he hummed as he made his way back, pocketing the candy bar wrapper in his mouth to look at the handiwork the other had done so far.

“Really?” was the first word out of his mouth the moment he turned around and saw that the other had returned with… whoa, those were comically large drinks!

The Salamence that had landed gave Memo this look of dismay, before huffing and grumbling in his human companion’s direction.

“Hey, Hey, Gabe… no need to be so antagonistic,” he whispered quietly, reaching under the draconid’s chin and rubbing it.

“I still don’t understand why you’re so cheesed at him, but yeah… try to lay off the hostilities a little bit?”

Meanwhile, the blue-plumed avian Pokémon continued to preen himself, plucking some stray, dead feathers away from his plumage and fussing over… before clattering across the arena and sussing out Shivani the Banette who’d taken to hiding behind the other man!

“You know me so well,” he hummed as he gave the Salamence one final pat on the head before approaching him to give the other man a forehead kiss and accept the drink.

“So, like, you know that these things we’re about to order are like… mega evolution doesn’t work while you’re wearing ‘em… my friend told me.”

“You’re the one who picked, I delegate the choice to you!” he hollered back from the walk-in closet, shuffling past his ye olde drag outfits once upon a time.

“Or do you want me to gender-bend and make this even sillier for you? You choose! If you don’t choose I’m going to pick your outfit and genderbend myself!”

He’d already gotten to where the masquerade masks were stashed, and pulled out a couple possible choices.

“What looks better on you, white or red?!” he added a few moments later.

Today was a weekend, and as always he would find his way over to Lilycove to go on the biweekly supply run.

Now if one was going to ask why he didn’t do this in Fortree, the answer was simple: the Lilycove Department Store had the biggest selection of available stuff he needed to pick up over on the eastern side of Hoenn (seeing as Slateport catered to the southern section; while Mauville was for the central area).

Accompanied by his Braviary and Archeops, he thought he saw someone familiar down at a park…

“Miss Elise?” he called out, hoping that he was correct.

It wouldn’t take too long before the extremely familiar sight (by this point) would make their appearance…

“Shouldn’t be too long now,” he mused quietly while he was on lookout duty, considering that whenever he was around this place, the all-too-familiar visage would come charging around the corner…


And there it was.

“I find it weird, how most abominations come attacking, but this one doesn’t seem to,” he mused quietly as the three-headed Salamence and Dodrio abomination started running around; the derpface head lolling about uselessly while the other two heads were arguing about something.

Tornadus, for the most part, ushered the trapped synthetic Pokémon forward; the winds wrapping around it like a mummy to make sure they didn’t just suddenly spring out of the vortex and lash out again.

Him, on the other hand, was not-so-subtly trying to avoid looking at the other’s bloodied and battered frame because the sight of so much blood set him on edge… it reminded him of his weakness, after all.

“Let’s get the hell out of here. We got what we came for, now let’s rest and recover,” he hummed quietly as he recalled all his Pokémon except the Wandering Stormbringer, who was now on ‘warden duty’ while herding the Type:Null down and out of the place.
