“Oh my god, please don’t call me mister, I’m sure we’re around the same age,” he grinned with an embarrassed look on his face.

Since she’d brought a Dragonite along for the challenge, he decided to fly on his own as well.

(He was going to surprise her once they got into the air, because he saw that she had a saddle on her own Dragonite. He wondered if Josh Devlin had told her that he rode without any kind of saddle at all…)

“You can ask me now, while we’re here on the ground. The team’s not yet done setting up the full obstacle course at the back.”

Another sleepless night had come, and here he was again, out on the open-air arena watching the Wandering Stormbringer circle around the perimeter.

“It’s like… I don’t know,” he mused as he laid down flat on the arena grounds, staring up into the starless evening sky.

“I know he can fight, but fuck, I’m kidding if I said I’m not scared for him as well, the way he drops everything to protect me…”

He continued to stare up at the inky blackness, the silent whooshing noise the indication that the Stormbringer was there, circling the area.

“But I want to protect him, too. What can’t he understand about that? I can stand on my own two feet, too. I want… I want to return the favor. He’s literally bent over so far back for me I’m just…”

A quiet sigh escaped him.

Unfortunately it’s too much for him to get the Drampa to snap out of the angry Outrage that he’d sunken into, and in no time flat one final Psybeam from the Kecleon sent the poor ol’ grampa dragon packing.

“You… you can call your Kecleon back now,” he said quietly, rushing over to the fluffy grandpa dragon and checking if he was alright—before giving the exhausted draconid a pat on his fluffy head.

“You did fantastic,” he whispered to the Pokémon before recalling the draconid back into his Safari Ball—the fluffy one deserved all the TLC for later.

Recovering his pride, he approached the opposite side of the arena.

“You have a very stubborn Kecleon and Froakie. Reminds me of those shop owners in this game I play, they constantly start screaming ‘thief!’ when you try to take something from their wares and all that.”

Once he was close enough, he gestured to the other man’s hand and to hold it open, before he placed something small and cold in it.

“I know I still need work with my battle skills, but here you go—the Skyrider badge.”

“Congratulations!”

After the two Pokémon had made a getaway (if he could even call the two abominations ‘Pokémon’) it was time to get the hell out of there before even more started appearing…

“Coming!” he yelled as he quickly recalled all his Pokémon but left his Braviary out in the open; making a running start for the actual leap he would take—

Once he’d landed, and the Braviary made a squawk of surprise at his sudden landing, the two shot off after Yuina and her Pokémon, like there was a wildfire hot on their tail!

Unfortunately this time around, things were going to unfold differently.

Maybe this was the sign that something had deviated; because instead of the Salamance-headed Dodrio abomination, it was…

“Oh no. Oh, no… not you. Not you, not you, not fucking you—!” he exclaimed as a hauntingly familiar figure came out of the rip between space and began running at him with that sword.

For once, for fucking once, he felt several scars twitch all at once—the one on the back of his right hand; the one on the lower part of his left leg; the one from his shoulder—and the one that only one other person knew the existence of—the scar on his neck.

“Shalin, RUN!” he all but screamed, shoving her away from the incoming figure that had the manic, deranged smile on his face—ready to cut him up again and maybe finish the damned job this time around.

He could already taste bile at the back of his throat; the gastric acid bubbling up and threatening to make him hurl if they didn’t make a fucking run for it!

“Oh, come on!” he exclaimed with a sigh as he pinched the bridge of his nose as the three-headed Salamence perched on the body of a Dodrio made its grand entrance—two extremely angry heads, and one absolutely useless derp-face head!

“You… you can lower your voice now,” he whispered once the ringing had left his ears.

Why was this panning out like the Father Winter cave visit from before?

Thankfully, though, the silly-looking ‘Salamence’ wasn’t going to attack them… was it attached to him?!

“Am… am I wrong, though?”

He was out in the middle of the night again, at the open-air arena. The wandering Stormbringer had taken to circling around the place, like he was a guard or something.

“Am I wrong for being afraid… am I wrong for being terrified for his life?” he mused quietly as the purple-and-green blur continued to wander around, listening to what he had to say.

“I know… I know he can stand up for himself, but there’s… there’s always that single fear that. Something… something bad might happen… you know?”

It was a shame that legendary Pokémon—well, the one in front of him at least, couldn’t mega evolve… to be fair, they were already powerful enough in their own right.

Word was out on the street that there were new avians to be found—from his partner’s other home region, of all places.

While he already had Aquarius the Quaxly, he couldn’t help but wonder—where were the other avians he’d seen around? He knew that they were there, just that…

How long would it take before he eventually found all of them and added them to his ever-growing collection?

So it was today he would set out one of those funny-looking incense holders near a tree, and then climb said tree to wait for whatever first avianid Pokémon would be lured out by the smell of it.

At the mention of scrapes, though, he went on high alert.

“Where? Where are your injuries?” he followed up, making a grab for the first-aid kit he was carrying with him as part of the support teams running around and helping patch up all the injured League operatives.

“Oh my god don’t tell me they’re going to do the—” he trailed off, squealing as he quickly and immediately hid his face in his partner’s shoulder as the crying only got even louder.

For all that was worth, he was still terrified of most gore. Could anyone blame him, though?

He couldn’t blot out the pathetic crying, the begging, the wailing coming from the screen—was the sound turned up that high? He couldn’t remember.

Where was the popcorn?!

The Sableye broke out into a run the moment they were out of the Sanctuary grounds, slipping into shadows here and there—but turning around to wait for him to catch up.

“W-wait f-for me, Loki,” he gasped, realizing that the spectral Pokémon was moving extremely fast—they were in a hurry!

“D-don’t go too fast! S-slow down, let me catch up!” he continued, finally managing to get to the corner where the Sableye was impatiently waiting, resisting the urge to bang his head against the nearest lamp post.

“C-come on, where?” he breathed out once he’d finally gotten his bearings.

Why was he running as slow as a mummy, anyway?!

The smell of hot chocolate immediately made him look up and he saw that there was a mug that had a paper towel placed near where he was busy signing yet another stack of papers…

“That smells fantastic. How much peppermint did you put in mine?” he asked as the pen fell out of his hand. Ouch, why did some of these reports have to be handwritten…

At the mention of the other offering to sign some of the papers for him, he let out a soft chuckle.

“Would you really do that for me?” he confirmed, blinking as he reached for the mug of hot chocolate and taking a much-needed sip.

He didn’t want to pull the deceptive hoodwink over some of these papers, considering that they had to be sent to the Evergrande offices straight to the Commissioner herself…

It was extremely tempting, though!

Unfortunately, the noise, for what it was worth, only grew louder the longer he stayed awake…

He then let out a cry of dismay as he immediately snuggled up to the other—his only shield from all the weird and creepy shit that was tumbling around every which way when this month was concerned.

“I don’t like that noise, love, save me…” he whined as he buried his face deeper into his boyfriend’s hold; good luck getting him away from you now!

Why did it feel like his spooky-radar was on high alert?!

It didn’t take long before this strange voice spoke from out of nowhere.

“Donate? You mean we’ll demolish it all after everyone’s all trick or treated out for the night!” he teased, grabbing one of the Rage Candy Bars and peeling it open to take a bite… he was that hungry, yes!

He continued to watch the insanity as his partner continued to segregate the candy by… there had to be a system to the madness, right?

“Are you sorting them by flavor or something?” he mused after he’d taken a couple of bites of the bar.

“And of course I get the first rights to taste-test these!” he added, dancing just a little bit out of the other man’s reach in case he made a grab for the candy he was eating.
