It’s at this point he noticed something.

The Garchomp was struggling not to fly. If there was one thing he was more than certain of, it was the fact that this particular Garchomp in front of him was actually resisting a natural thing that they could do—with the power of their leaps and bounds, they could fly.

(Yes, imagine his surprise when he himself found out that Garchomp could fucking fly.)

“Why are you resisting it?” he shouted from across the arena. “Let him fly!”

As if to prove a point, the Gyarados roared; never mind if she’d gotten clobbered by the Outrage attack , she would still cut through the area and sink her Ice Fangs into the Garchomp’s hide.

Gyarados is out on the field!

Gyarados allows herself to get clocked by the Outrage, however pushed on and used Ice Fang!

The little Wingull was quick to sweep in, allowing himself to get hit by the blades of wind—but not faltering in flight pattern—before the surprise attack came screaming up at them! The Wingull was blown off-course due to the force of the attack, but hung on tenaciously.

To counter that move, the Wingull then disappeared in a Quick Attack in an attempt to distract and throw off the Pidove, before squawking in the Yanma’s direction.

“Brace yourself!” were the only words he whistled from his side of the arena, as the Yanma then flapped their wings as fast as possible, using the Steel Wing attack to disperse and repel the incoming Thunder Wave as much as possible.

If there was going to be one survivor—it would be the Yanma, hopefully.

Yanma and Wingull are out on the field!

Wingull tanks the Air Slash attack for the Yanma, falling in flight course but not out of it yet! Wingull then used Quick attack to separate the Pidove from the Yanma. Meanwhile, Yanma used Steel Wing in an attempt to repel the incoming Thunder Wave attack!

The moment the Pelipper and the Skarmory collided in the skies, the sound of a shriek of defeat echoed around them. He then whipped out Mike’s Pokéball and recalled the Pelipper, which left the Gyarados out on the field…

And then, all hell literally broke loose.

“Oh, then that gives me permission to do that as well!” he chuckled quietly as he reached for something dangling around a chain and pulled out… a flecked, fading bird whistle and blowing off a singular, sharp note.

A stone attached as a charm to said whistle began to glow—and on the battlefield, his Gyarados, as well.


One angry howl later, the Gyarados emerged with a new form.



Roaring, as this was only the second time he’d ever done this (and with Gyarados too) the dual-type Pokémon waited until the Garchomp was nearby, before releasing a close-range Hurricane to repel the incoming land-shark.

Gyarados also Mega-evolves to match the Garchomp, and waits for the Garchomp to approach before releasing a close-range Hurricane!

“No, not really,” he chuckled in reply, pulling off the gloves and setting them in the bucket which he then left at the corner of the ‘arena’ proper.

The loud, raucous sound of feeding avians wasn’t too far away.

“…I just finished feeding most of my airborne herd. The rest of the staff is going to take care of the aviaries… I don’t pity whoever has feeding duty for the Toucannon Armada™ right now though!” he ended with a laugh.

(Because asides from himself, and a few other staff members, that one particular aviary was as rowdy as a peanut gallery.)

Oh, god. It was… ugh.

“I haven’t told Guillermo Marceliño, but I’m going to Littleroot. The other locations are like… yeah, no. I’ll pass,” he added with a shudder. One of them was mcfucking Mount Pyre after all. Yikes. “Even if I want to fly out into space, I don’t know how the logistics of my armada would work up there.”

And then there was the matter of… that.

“So which aerial combat mode do you want to learn, jousting?” he confirmed with this smirk on his face.

“I’ll see about that,” he hummed with a smirk as he took a sip from his long-forgotten drink that he realized was there, before picking off what remained of the fries in the basket he’d ordered.

He was still hungry, but then remembered that he had to pace himself since he was sure that Guillermo Marceliño wanted to hit the other pubs on the list and get shitfaced drunk so there was that. Speaking of which, here had his boyfriend run off to anyway?

He continued to tap the table quietly as the little Josh discussed his theory—now that the other mentioned it…

“It. I don’t know. You think that’s how it works? Well, I mean, it can technically be possible considering I’ve been talking to one and he just gives me a smaller piece of… hm.”

The moment the other had mentioned he was having second thoughts, he then hummed quietly.

“You know… I think my friend was right on mentioning one thing… it’s dangerous to be an avatar. Even if I want to be one, I think I know what’s stopping me from hitting that ‘potential’.”

He sighed quietly.

“And then, again, you have so much already under your belt! Surely you can do without attracting the ire of whatever else legendary Pokémon may be out there.”

Most days, he was thankful that there were no crowds that came out to watch his gym matches—well, unless we count the one time that Isaac Merlo had managed to stop traffic at the Sanctuary, literally, because of the insanity that happened.

He was thankful as well, that the rain was coming to a stop—it was time to pull down his hood, before belatedly realizing that—

The Skarmory had collided with the Pelipper, who’d loosed one last, desperate Hydro Pump only to be smashed head-on by said metallic bird which sent both of them spiraling toward the ground.

The Gyarados, on the other hand, saw what was happening, and literally roared at the Garchomp—knowing that the other wouldn’t back down from the taunt as she too, used Hydro Pump to drive back the frenzied Garchomp—but not without sustaining a hit in the process as well.

Pelipper used Hydro Pump in a last-ditch attempt to drive off the Skarmory, however is taken down and out by the Brave Bird attack! (Insert ANGERY Pelipper flock screaming bloody murder and death at the Skarmory here.)

Gyarados, on the other hand, also used Hydro Pump to drive back the Garchomp while getting hit by the angry draconid!

Oh boy.

The rest of the Pelipper horde watching the insanity unfolding behind Alexei literally gave the Skarmory their worst group stink-eye, all the while screaming all manner of obscenities at the Skarmory.

At the loud screaming noise of the seagull flock behind him, Alexei couldn’t help but smack both his palms to his face; allowing a few moments of deranged insanity to slip through the ‘calm’ façade.

“Guys… keep it down back there!” he hissed quietly as he took his attention away from the battlefield to gave the Pelipper flock his own stink-eye.

Back out in the air…

Mike the Pelipper wasn’t going to stand for that shit either, and immediately let loose with a Hurricane as the rain was petering out, flying upward to meet the Skarmory and scream in his face too.

Down at aisle 5…

Seeing that her partner had used that attack, it was time to take advantage before the weather petered out (and the column of air missed more often than not), so following the Pelipper’s lead, the Gyarados also used Hurricane on the Garchomp!

Nyoom.
