it's a quarter after three and now it's hard to breathe

Today was shaping up to be just like the rest of the days of the week. Boring. They were all starting to blur into one another. Her dad, THEO BECKETT, was getting busier and busier lately and she found it harder and harder to continue to test his patience the way she normally would. So instead she took it upon herself to bother someone she was already plenty acquainted with.[break][break]

Tori invited herself to chill at jayden cross's place. After all, she was sure he wouldn't turn her away, he never cared that much. So she used that to her advantage and made his place a second home of hers. However, what she hadn't expected was for him to have company when she arrived.[break][break]

Something along the lines of "Since when did he have friends?" escaped her lips in a mutter when she happened upon the scene. Either way, she intruded in on their little 'playdate', plopping down on Jayden's bed and tossing a ball repeatedly in her hands. She wasn't sure how long she'd been here by now but they had all been chatting for a bit before Jayden got up to leave.[break][break]

After a moment of silence violet hues glanced at the strange boy that was left in the room. She pursed her lips as she gave him a once over. "You know, I'm surprised a loser like him managed to score a friend." Tori began with smug grin spreading across her lips. "So, what are you after him for? He got somethin' you want?" After all, why would someone want to be friends unless the relationship was transactional?

Tori raised an eyebrow at him before scoffing, a light smirk tugging at the corner of her lips. "Oh no! You got me! How will I ever recover?" Victoria responded, her voice dripping with obvious sarcasm. Violet hues watched as he pulled himself up before helping himself to her gift. He didn't respond to her question, but she didn't find herself surprised by that either.[break][break]

Her smirk widened at his own inquiry of her. Reaching forward she plucked a grape from his box of fruit assortments and popped it into her mouth before humming in delight. "Mmm, some things just don't change, isn't that right Jayden?" Her face scrunched up in a smug grin as she continued. "You're still as boring as ever."[break][break]

Though there were certainly some things that were different about him now that made up for that. So, that statement wasn't completely true. Since he felt the need to dodge her questions she figured she'd repay him in kind. Besides it wasn't that important anyway. "We're friends right?" she asked before swiftly continuing. "Of course, we are." she didn't even give him the time to respond.[break][break]

"Friends help each other out when they're in need, right?" Leaning forward, her facial expression shifted to something more serious. "So help me out. I need to get stronger, Jay." Her gaze stayed locked with his, after all she was quite serious about this.

Victoria kept a care watch over Lex, unsure of she would make another bolt towards the edge behind her. She wanted to be prepared nonetheless, but for the most part it seemed she had snapped out of whatever trance she was in, thank Arceus. “I spent the night here once before,” Lex spoke as she gathered her things and looked towards the horizon. [break][break]

She turned on her heel and quickly left the scene, paying no more mind to the situation that had just befell them. Tori glared behind her once more towards the edge of the border and quickly followed after her partner. This place was shaping up to be just as dangerous as the reports said it was. [break][break]

Victoria followed along silently as Lex lead the way towards where they would be resting. She listened as Lex expertly gave her analysis of the area but she couldn't shake the events that had just transpired. Tori was curious but she wasn't so socially inept that she wouldn't realize it wasn't her place to interrogate Lex on the matter. [break][break]

She was sure if she was in her shoes, she wouldn't want to talk about it much either. "Sounds good to me. We should be able to reach before it gets dark." Tori responded as she glanced up at the sky. "Anything crazy happen at night?" she asked since Lex had mentioned she stayed overnight before.[break][break]

This was the first time that Victoria had done something like this. Not that it was completely surprising at this point. This region was full of fuckery that Tori just couldn't understand. So she stopped asking questions and locked in. After all, the alternative wasn't even worth considering, she had a job to do.[break][break]

That's what she had said to herself at least, but now that she was in the 'spirit realm' she couldn't help herself but be impressed and on edge. Anything could happen here, the lands of purgatory were nothing to trifle with. Victoria wasn't superstitious by any means nor did she find herself afraid in the presence of ghosts, however, life and death could easily be blurred in places like these. It was always better to err on the side of caution.[break][break]

Her father, THEO BECKETT had introduced her to her partner. With his recommendation Tori could trust Lex was dependable at least. Except, she wasn't exactly 'sociable'. Then again, Tori wasn't either so it wasn't that big of a deal. They conversed when it was required and that was about it. However, for a while now Tori had been getting a peculiar feeling.[break][break]

Adjusting the bags on her back she observed with piercing eyes, her partner who seemed to be caught up in a trance. Unsure if her suspicions were justified she continued to monitor the red-headed woman. But it was when she stepped closer the final pass or border towards the eternal resting place of the dead, that she realized she needed to act.[break][break]

"WAIT!" she shouted as she tossed her bags to her Lucario, Osiris, and made a dash for Lex. Tori couldn't afford to lose Lex here, especially because out of the two of them she was the expert here. Leaving Tori to fend for herself in this purgatory was a death wish. Victoria was quick as she yanked the woman back from the edge, tackling her to the ground to secure her in place.[break][break]

"Have you lost your mind?!" she huffed as the blood rushed to her ears leaving them ringing. Overhead the sky began to darken, signaling the end of the 'day' if time even passed like normal here. Either way, Tori wasn't sure what happened at night here, it wasn't smart of them to continue exploring in the dark.[break][break]

Glancing once more at Lex she offered her a hand to help her up, once she was sure she was snapped out of whatever trance she'd been in. She didn't ask her any further questions, instead she nodded her head in a direction. "I think it would be wise to set up camp...preferably somewhere far from...here..." she said as her eyes narrowed at the final border to the afterlife once more.[break][break]

Victoria was exhausted. Not just physically but mentally too. The war that was waged on that island had her spent. But she knew better than anything that she wasn't satisfied with her performance on the island itself. Sure, she won some battles and lost some, but she just couldn't shake the feeling that she could've been better. [break][break]

Besides...that last encounter with that deserter, Isaac Merlo, left a bitter taste in her mouth. She didn't enjoy having her shortcomings poked at. Especially by some arrogant stranger that believed they even knew half the struggle she'd gone through. "Tch." she sucked her teeth as she made her way towards the med bay in a huff.[break][break]

She'd heard a friend of her's landed himself in the medical bay after the events on that island. But she wasn't just here to check up and see if he was okay. After getting caught up to speed on the current comings and goings of rocket HQ, she realized this 'old friend' would be her best bet if she was looking to grow stronger.[break][break]

"No more repeats..." she grumbled to herself. No more repeats of that incident on the beach with that deserter. Not only was it uncomfortable but it was humiliating. She'd suffer it no longer. With a deep breath she pushed the door open and walked the patients room like she owned the place. (A parallel to how she used to barge into his room when they were children.)[break][break]

"....Damn you look like shit." As brutally honest as always. Some things just don't change.[break][break]

Tori made her way further into the room before comfortably plopping herself on the edge of jayden cross's hospital bed. She handed him a small box of fruit assortments that she'd brought as a 'get-well-soon' gift. Crossing her legs she tilted her head to the side, purple locks spilling over her shoulders. "Who roughed you up like this, bud?"

And just like that it was over. Osiris was clearly winded from the whole ordeal so Victoria didn't hesitate to recall him as well once their victory was assured. Glancing over at her opponent she watched her with amused eyes. Taking her hand in hers she shook it firmly. "Yeah you had us on the ropes alright. It was fun." she said with a smirk. [break][break]

After all, she held no ill will towards the girl. "I look forward to seeing you around sometime. Maybe we could have a rematch." Tori says with a wave of her hand before turning on her heels and leaving the arena. But not before popping another delicious lollipop in her mouth.[break][break]

How was it that Victoria always managed to find herself in predicaments like this? When it was down to the wire and anything goes? Ah well. It was probably more fun that way anyway. "Hmm" Tori hummed as she watched her opponent level the playing field. [break][break]

"Break through!" Tori called out to Osiris. This was their final push anyway, after all he no longer had enough energy to maintain his mega evolved form. With a gruff he inhaled sharply before forming and shaping familiar energy in his paws. [break][break]

One the AURA SPHERE was complete he dashed off to meet his opponent halfway. Aiming to launch the AURA SHPERE right into their chest. A gutsy move, but action and risk went hand in hand. Tori could only hope that it would pay off a little for them in the end. [break][break]

It was silent for a while as she waited for the dust to settle and clear. Victoria looked around, frantically checking signs for the victor on her vital gear. Once she was able to see she saw that Oz was the one standing, albeit barely. "We won?" she questioned Oz also fell to the ground, exhausted after the entire ordeal. [break][break]

Recalling him back to his pokeball so he could rest, Tori had a smile stretching from ear to ear. "You did great." she said before inhaling sharply and turning to her opponent and offering a respectful bow. "It's been a pleasure." she said before holding out her hand for a handshake. "I had a lot of fun. You guys are scary impressive." she said with a soft chuckle. [break][break]

There was so much dust everywhere. It was hard to see anything. Tori's eyes scanned the area as she waited with bated breath. She was only met with silence until....[break][break]

The cheers from her opponents side said it all. As she looked back Osiris laid crumpled on the floor. With a soft sigh she hung her head low for a second before she reached for his pokeball and recalled him. "You still did good." she muttered as she patted the ball. As her opponents approached she nodded and bowed tot he out of respect.[break][break]

"Yeah, it was really close there. But you guys are impressive." she admitted with a soft smile. "Congrats on your victory." she winced at the reminder of their little bet. "Yeah, yeah, I didn't forget." she said as she shoved her hands in her pockets.[break][break]

"And I'm Tori." She said as she nodded her head for him to follow her. "You didn't share your name either hotshot." she added with a teasing grin as she lead them off to reward them with lunch, her treat.

Osiris had used up the majority of his energy so he could no longer maintain his mega evolved form. He looked worn out, but the same could be said for their opponent. "One last push buddy!" Tori calls out. After all this was the last attack she feared Osiris could do. "Make it count!" she shouted. [break][break]

With a grunt the Lucario does his best to avoid the falling stars. Meanwhile his trainer bites her nails, clearly on 'the edge of her seat' wracked with anticipation. So Oz decides to do what he does best. Or rather the only thing he could muster. As he blitz's towards his opponent he aims for CLOSE COMBAT. [break][break]

The flurry of blows from him to his opponent would be the last the he could do. They could only pray it would stick. Tori had to admit though, just like all of her other battles, this was extremely fun. Dynamax was such a unique phenomenon but it was obviously powerful. Victoria made a mental note to look into that later.[break][break]
