A Regieleki? She had heard of the three normal Regis and their corresponding elements. But Electricity sure wasn't one of them! Was this some kind of newly found Regi kind? Could it fuse itself with the other Regis for some kind of long forgotten fusion? How could Ameena just see that and say that so straightfaced?!

"I wonder what it was protecting."

Gwen said to herself, though turning to Ameena when she had shown her gratitude for Gwen's support.

"Oh, thanks! I really do love exploring these Ultra Space places with you, Mrs. Abadi! Besides the dangerous parts, this is a pretty cool little field trip. If you're planning more, we'd definitely be down to help out!"

Gishath let out a sharp hiss in agreement with Gwen.

It was a beautiful day out on the water, with Gwendolyn and her Gabite partner having decided to spend the day out and about. With some time off from their Ranger duties, Gwen was out strolling by the beachside alongside the partner, who had his own little pool floaties and inner tube to keep him above water.

Their ride across the water, the large Gyarados parked in the water who would follow alongside them would spend its time diving in and out of the water, enjoying its first real time out of a freshwater environment.

”Alright, Gishath. Go wild!”

The Gabite waddled off with his fins at the ready, accepting all sorts of fights and the like while his owner followed behind him. Gwen came dressed in a blue one piece swimsuit. It was the most revealing attire she had worn to day, and it only exposed her legs and arms. She enjoyed the feeling of the breeze on her arms, though felt embarrassed to be in something like this.

She watched her Gabite enjoy his playtime on this stretch of beach in the open watets as she turned to whistle to the Gyarados in the distance.

”Don't wander off too far, Tempest. This is a perfect spot to have lunch at!”

"Yeah, I guess that's true." Gwendolyn pursed her lips together and leaned back on the stack of boxes. Ana had a way with words, and she wasn't entirely sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. She didn't know whether or not to really believe it in her heart, but maybe things could change. "For some reason, it's like every couple of months, there's a new world ruining thing that's about to kill us all. What a weird world."

One funny story later and then suddenly, Ana just sort of...froze up? Gwen remained quiet for a minute, assuming that she was thinking in her head or something. But the pause became a little bit too awkward for her tastes and she intervened.

"Uh, Ana? You okay? Hello?"

Gwen moved to try and shake her a bit until she came back to a while later, in genuine confusion. Did she have amnesia or something? It was pretty personal, and she didn't want to intrude any more than she already had, so she decided not to ask.

"Funny, my first pokemon was a Goomy that snuck into my house while I was in my NEET phase and got stuck in an old soda cup."

Bigger than a Xurkitree? The one they were dealing with was already huge! How much larger could this thing get? Gwendolyn didn't have enough time to really stop and ask questions, all she could do was to follow behind Ameena once their goal was clear: they needed to get off this ship before something else would happen to it.

"Roger. C'mon, Gishath!"

The Gabite waddled to the entrance of the ship alongside her as the party was once again treated to the dire looking skyline above. The wiring and more still took up the night sky, but beyond that was something a little more concerning. An entire giant orb made of electricity that crackled along its body as it looked down upon them.

"Holy shit..." Gwen gasped. "What is that thing?!"

Gazing upon the beast was like staring at the oncoming hand of an omnipotent god, really to smite them both down. She had never really faced a threat such as this one. Her feet felt burdened by the weight of her insignificant life compared to the thing in the sky. It was only Ameena's voice that had helped guide her towards freedom.

She grabbed her Corviknight and used the power of Dynamax to cause it to grow big enough to withstand whatever forces or attacks that this electric god would no doubt be hurling at them while they fled. Gwen picked up Gishath with both hands and ran to hop aboard their ride out of this Ultra Space realm.

"We're on! Go!"

Gwen didn't really think of herself as a survivor. Usually that was given to people who had managed to live through some of the worst things a human being could go through. To her, it was just a day, like any other. Though maybe some people would have thought of it. She grinned wider at Ana's poke and found some humor in her little admission.

"I guess so, heh. Sometimes if I need to force Gishath into the bath, he'll get snappy. For somebody missing teeth, it's like getting a bear trap locked down on your hand."

The Gabite in question nodded his tiny head, as if to rub it more into Gwen's face about his antics when at home. The ginger rolled her eyes and continued to scratch his dry, scaley head.

"Before the Ranger stuff, I was horrible with Pokemon. Most of my first catches were because I caught them by accident. That and birds. They, uh, aren't my biggest fans since I had to move their nests when they were blocking my wired connection to the satellite back home."

The answer to her question was met with silence. It wasn't like Gwen expected an answer as if this was a common occurrence. Wires as thick and strong as these must have meant that whatever was causing them was quite the specimen indeed. They couldn't cut them without risking being electrocuted, at best. So for now, they were just obstacles that would have to be dealt with the utmost of caution.

The interior of the ship was dusty, left untouched for likely years. Gwen got to work on fiddling with the wiring here and there, solely to sate her hunch about why the derelict spacecraft was just here and entombed in synthetic wire.

”If I had to guess, maybe the ship's power source was what it was after. If they're attracted by high amounts of electricity or energy, then whatever was here was like a buffet for the Xurkitree.”

It was a wild guess for somebody with zero knowledge about how Ultra Space and Beasts worked, but it was the most straightforward idea for her. They walked deeper into the ship, with their electricity resistant gear pushed to its limit.

Gwen had followed the wires all the way to a back panel, where the innards of the ship were ravaged. The thick black wire pierced through everything that could stand in its way to the mainframe. Parts of paneling, lights and even metal itself hadn't been spared. Yet in Front of her, a small crystalline structure glowed inside of the ship. The ends of the wires were frayed as electricity crackled between them and its power source.

Then one wire would twitch, slithering around itself as if it shielded the source of electricity from prying eyes. Wasn't the Xurkitree dead? Then that meant…

”Uh, Ameena? It may not be as still as we thought.” Gwen said. ”We should probably leave before-”

A muffled explosion came from outside. It rocked the ship some, causing some of the previously still wires to swing and move as the ship adjusted itself from the force exerted on it. The ranger looked to Ameena as the shaking had stopped for a moment, eyes looking outside.

”What was that?!”

The topic of Gishath's missing teeth had caused Gwendolyn to pause, her elated expression faltering for a moment. The reminder of one of the worst days of her life. That day when that mysterious crystalized demon (known as Zev Harcourt ) had given her the hardest reality check she had ever had. The hand clutching the box tightened in response while the ranger exhaled. She tried to keep herself calm, but emotions that had been in a period of unrest were bubbling up once more.

"We were investigating a noise disturbance one day, in Lilycove. Somebody had heard something going on and we broke inside to see what was happening. Nothing happened at first, but then we saw a man made out of black crystal who attacked us. He was ready to kill me, but Gishath launched to bite him and..."

Silence. Gwen didn't want to think about it any. She turned away to look at the many interesting boxes of dead rodents. They wouldn't judge her for that moment of helplessness. The long run back to the sanctuary and begging freya morningstar freya morningstar in tears was a time in her life she'd never want to revisit.

"We ran out and I came straight here after, holding him and wondering how I would ever explain it to Freya. She entrusted him to me to train and grow, and I let her down like that."

A beat.

"That's why I work here, to thank her for everything she's done to me. I'm just some nobody to the Rangers, but I can give back to the woman who gave me the first steps to finding myself."

Another beat. It took her a moment before Gwen spun back around with a pained but playful look.

"That's what I hope people think, anyway. It sounds cooler that way. I'm just some fuck up trying to make the world a better place."

”Hey, watch your-”

The loud thump was what interrupted Gwendolyn's warning, as the Ranger cadet winced to herself. The poor worker had suffered a pretty nasty bump, but the little self censorship had elicited a smirk from the ginger.

”Bitches and gravy? You sound like my Mom when she's trying to avoid cursing in front of me.”

Gishath accepted the icy piece of chicken from Ana with open claws. Although when he opened his mouth, the lack of teeth was noticeable in full. He gnawed on the frozen pieces as best he could before spitting it out and then looking to Gwen.

Always the fussy one, that was her partner.

”You could have waited for me to cut it for you.”

She teased him and walked over to the frozen cutlet with her pocket knife and began to cut it up into smaller morsels. The other woman introduced herself as their hands met with one another into a firm shake.

”Nice to meet you, Ana. And I'd love to.”

Gwen stood up and walked back outside while her Gabite stayed to feast on the pieces of chicken. Even without teeth, every bit slid down his throat in quick succession. Once finished, he began to look up at Ana in the hopes of getting more.

Gwen came back a minute later with stacked boxes of Ratata, hopefully all dead. The containers were marked in red marker about their contexts, alongside a few other precautions.

”So employee, huh? You must love work every day to work in a place with dragons.”

Gishath roared across the grassland area and caused a ruckus in this wake. Gwendolyn watched the aftermath of his decision as a flock of birds from afar had taken off from the sounds of struggle. The Gabite was no doubt causing trouble in front of the Ranger, as she tapped her foot down in thought. Maybe unleashing a battle ready Pokemon into a zone full of challengers wasn't the best idea.

"Hope they've gotten enough Pokemon to resupply after this." she said to herself and followed the Gabite's wake.

It wasn't too long of a walk to find Gishath. He cut through a patch of shrubbery and had been busy battling with a Pachirisu who looked rather hopeless in the fight due to the typing difference. He shrugged off any shocks his way and charged head first into the squirrel, knocking it down onto the ground. Reveling in his victory, Gwen laughed a tad and walked closer.

"Come on, Champ. We've got some bigger fish to fry."

They wandered off as the wounded Pachirisu ran back up into the trees.
