There was few things Victor enjoyed more than a tantalizing mystery. [break][break]

And he could justify the frivolity of this venture, couldn't he? Things were as normal and stable as they could get in Hoenn, and it had been months since his last misadventure. There was still this unsettling anxiety that gripped him at times, but a little dalliance like this would be just the thing to take it off of his mind, [break][break]

“Have either of you had any luck?” [break][break]

The Lampent floating some distance away, peering into a trash can, suddenly looked up with a start. Her arms sagged with some disappointment and she shook her head to the best of her ability. Victor smiled, a tired but sincere expression, [break][break]

“Don't worry, I'm sure we'll find something. Adam, what about you? … Adam?” [break][break]

When Victor looked up and around at his surroundings, he was alarmed to find that his Golett had gone missing, [break][break]

“Adam? Where'd you go?” [break][break]

From his spot at the periphery of the scavenger hunt area, Victor half-walked, half-jogged as he tore through the place to find his Pokemon, slipping past other participants with only the vaguest of apologies as panic seized him. Good Arceus, where could the little guy have gone? [break][break]

Fortunately, it didn't take long to find the wayward Pokemon, and Victor's shoulders sagged with a relieved sigh when he found the Golett sitting on a park bench, holding a book in his hands as though he were trying to read it, [break][break]

“You scared the life out of me, Adam. I told you not to wander too far.” [break][break]

Nyx the Lampent swivelled into view, settling just above the Golett to peer over his shoulder at the book's contents. The Golett loosed a defiant squeak as a rebuttal and thrust the book into Victor's hands, [break][break]

“Oh, you were looking for this?” [break][break]

He closed the book and turned it over to look at its cover, when he was suddenly seized by a thrill of excitement, [break][break]

“Excellent work, Adam! A novel by E. A. Sherman; that's just what we were looking for!” [break][break]

The Golett crossed his arms with some indignation as Victor plopped down next to him on the bench. He thumbed through the pages until a few lines caught his eye. Looking up from the book to the crowd and back down again, Victor paused; the hunt was still on, but maybe it could wait for a while. It had been some time since he had a proper page-turner in his hands.
