The iron bull didn’t even seem to register Eko or her rock. Its attention was squarely on Flowers, who was weaving in between the attacks being levied at him. She looked around, searching for something close by that might actually do some damage to the metal pokemon.

As she scanned the closest trees and rock around, it clicked: the fallen tree that the pokemon had been trapped under (and was now hiding under). She grabbed a thick branch from the ground and hauled it over to the turned over tree. If she could just wedge the branch into the crack between the fallen tree and the rocks underneath, it should tumble downwards. Fortunately for her, downwards was right towards the bull.

She jammed the branch into the crack and, using the rocks underneath as a leverage point, cranked the branch down with all her might.

SNAP. Eko fell back, landing hard on her butt. The branch she was using had cracked in half. Great.

One. last. Heave. And Eko finally made a hole in the snow big enough for the trapped pokemon to squirm through. Of course, now, it wasn’t planning to come out any time soon with the iron assailants running around. The pokemon hissed a warning at Eko who returned a flat, unimpressed look.

It didn’t matter any more, anyway. While she’d love to just grab the darn thing, pile onto Flowers, and flee from whatever this… metal pokemon was, it seemed too dangerous to flee. Flowers and the metal bull were locked in on eachother.

Eko clenched her teeth as the familiar sound of aerial ace whistled through the air. She decided she would help too, and grabbed a nearby rock. She hurled it at the bull, aiming to time it so it smacked into the pokemon just as Flower’s attack landed.

The sky lit and heat bloomed across the battlefield. A flash, an explosion, people screaming. It was too familiar. Eko grasped at the snow and flung it back until she could see something squirming back to life. It screeched, angry at her, angry at its snow prison, angry at everything. Still, she dug. Focused solely on the pattern of her movements: grab, pull.

Then another, blinding flash as crystals rained down. Grab, pull.

Flowers had spotted her and veered away from the heat of the fighting but had not been far enough to avoid getting scorched by the wave of the fusion flare. He skid into the treeline, shaking off a layer of crystals that had pelted and then clung to him. Tail feathers singed and smoldering, he watched Eko feverishly and repetitively: grab, pull.

There wasn’t time. Something was coming at them and Flowers turned to defend his partner from the threat with a hurricane.

And what a learning experience it was! Eko’s eyes widened as Queen Zing sprouted even more deadly weapons and jabbed every last one of them at Kshana. The nincada didn’t even stand a chance against the flurry of stings. She gave a feeble cry and fainted.

The horn blared, Shalin was announced the winner, and the match was officially over.

”Well, if we were going down at least we went down in a blaze of glory,” Even if the glory was their opponents, it was a warrior’s end. ”We gave it our best, thank you for the battle!” She returned Kshana to the safety of her pokeball. ”Maybe one day we’ll have a re-match.” She gave a small wave and would shortly be on her way to heal up for the next round.

The Rookidee sulked away from the wall as Eko scolded her. Instead, her attention turned to a window - which was really just a bigger hole in the wall - and she found the next interesting thing to look at.

”Dee~” she sang out to the Goodra that slimed its way around outside. Eko peeked over her shoulder. ”You’d better be careful if you don’t want to get dirty.” Eko lifted a brow at her partner. ”Pretty sure he’d get your pretty feathers all slimy.”

Ever shuddered at the thought.

”Watch it!” Eko yelled at the group of kids that had started launching snow balls left, right, and center. She had actually been on her way to join the game when the rogue snowball whipped past her and landed smack into someone else’s face. Now, facing the woman who had been the lucky winner, a slight grimace found its way across her own face. ”Oh, whoa, you alright?”

She peered at the red mark where the snowball had made contact. Was it bleeding? No, right? Surely not? Not from just a snowball? ”Let me take a look.” She hobbled closer to Mitsuru Kagami . The little Rookidee Eko had perched on her shoulder also leaned forward ever so slightly and twisted one eye closer and then the other so that it too could get a good look at the damage.

Eko twinged as Kshana took the sting and let out an angry cry. She was already re-thinking the last step. Considering a number of ways it could have gone differently before landing decidedly on a move that would have given Kshana a better chance than harden had. She had thought the second the mud-slapped had missed they were already backed into a corner but she had thought wrong.

Now, though, they were in a corner and had to find a way out. ”Mud-slap again, Kshana!” Maybe another swing would give them a chance to land something and blind the beedrill.

The little bug's claw hooked upward, lobbing another chunk of mud towards Queen Zing's eyes. Things weren’t looking too great but, if nothing else, this would be a learning experience.

Eko had read plenty about the Sky pillar but, since she was out on her small vacation to Pacifidlog Town, she had to make it a point to visit the landmark. Through her course work she’d come to understand some of the history of the Draconid tribe and their worship of Rayquaza. She’d seen pictures too. But books never really had the same magic as seeing it sprawled out in front of you.

She gave a short whistle to Ever, the little rookidee who had been peering at a crack in the wall with a little too much interest. ”No.” Whatever it was that had the pokemon’s attention, Eko wasn’t about to have her trying to jam her beak into the crack.

Flowers had taken off again as soon as Victor took the scarf and said his thanks. He kept low, despite the fighting, more concerned with being easily singled out than with dodging chunks of ice and attacks that weren’t actually aimed at him.

Eko, on the other hand, had managed to hold her footing despite the quake and had started to run away from the action, searching for Flowers in the sky as she picked the least active places to wobble-run through. Not that it was particularly easy moving with the action rising and her numerous layers of scarves layered around her.

She pushed just into the tree line hoping it would provide her some level of coverage as she moved away from the most immediate dangers. She felt safer to stop and look for Flowers here and as she did, she managed to catch sight of the mythical Keldeo as it streamed by boosting moral. Her attention was pulled away though, as she heard a pokemon call come from under a nearby fallen tree. She looked around until she saw the smallest movement in the snow that had piled around the tree.

Eko perked up when her name was called. She jumped up from her seat and crossed the short distance between herself and the scheduler. She nodded and had just started jotting down “main sector” in her notes when the scheduler stopped. Her gaze lifted curiously until they took in the Gym leader and his massive Jolteon.

Eko had seen some large pokemon variants during her time – especially in the war. It seemed, at the time, like the military units had access to some sort of pokemon growth hormone. It was just good breeding, any higher up would explain as they laughed off the idea. Now, with her background in military history, she had no doubt they had been using growth hormones. War pushed people to do funny things like that.

The thoughts cleared as Josh opened the door and greeted her. ”Ah, yeah,” The tournament where she and Kshana got absolutely destroyed. She gave a polite laugh, mostly to get the thought off her mind. ”It’s good to see you too. And thanks for the pizza, it hit the spot after all that battling.” She shifted her folders. ”I just wanted to come run some questions by you, make sure we had all the records up to date at the Museum. We like to keep archives of everything and if it’s inaccurate, what use is it?” She shrugged at the idea of useless information.

Eko had been too focused on thinking up a good first move to heed her opponents advice about her headphones. But, as the beedrill picked up speed, a hand instinctively found its way up to the headphones and slid them on. Having something muffling her hearing made her nervous but it would probably be worse without them on. She eyed the field in front of her as Kshana’s attack missed.

Kshana, on the other hand, seemed entertained by her opponent’s swift maneuvering. In fact, the way she continued to sway to-and-fro she almost looked like she was dancing. Her eyes stayed on Queen Zing, though. She may not be battle-worn but she could see something was coming. She skittered backwards, eyes still trailing the beedrill. ”Protect yourself!” She recognized Eko’s voice, heavily damped by the buzz that amplified as her opponent drew closer.

She shrunk into herself and her exoskeleton sheened with a harden.

Bicycling: the most efficient way for people to travel. At least that’s what the bike rental place kept sliding into their sales pitches. Eko hadn’t really needed any convincing. She had gone in to rent a bike. They were just really passionate about their bikes around these parts because, you know, they were the most efficient form of travel.

The only escape Eko could see from yet another ”Oh, did anyone else mention these are some really efficient machines”, was to get her bike and get out as fast as possible. So she did. She pointed, grunted, nodded and gave a pressed smile as the shop speakers buzzed to life with a: FUN FACT: When you consider the amount of energy converted into motion, bicycles are the most efficient way to travel.

She thought after escaping the bike cult, that her day couldn’t get any more bizarre. But she thought wrong, what a surprise.

Cyclizar flooded across the route and she veered this way then that way, doing her best to avoid hitting any of them. Or worse, she thought, as one of the cyclizar snapped at her bike tires. She watched the hoard rush ahead, mowing down others as they went.

Kshana tossed her head to a fro as she shuffled into position. A happy little bug, bopping along to the beat of her own drum. The nincada was always pleased as punch to meet anyone new. She let out a trill to greet her opponent as the trainers finished their introductions.

Eko nodded firmly as Captain Nariya wished her luck. Even with it, their chances were questionable. But, they were not zero. ”Ok, Kshana, let's start with a mud-slap.”

[break][break]The bug let out another trill and, with her body swaying gaily, slung a clawful of mud at Queen Zing. If it weren’t for the arena, she might just look like she was playing.
