She sighed through her nose, pinching the bridge of her nose. She was objectively too tired for this. Being suddenly teleported to her lab earlier at the premature proct of her experiment had disrupted her plans, and it made her push her planned bed time several hours later. She very much preferred her eight hours. She knew firsthand how dangerous it was to do anything with a sleepy scientist. Performing the write-up and data synthesis with tired eyes was less than ideal.[break][break]

She stepped away from her computer and rounded the table, but nothing was there. "Gar, are you-?" But her Gardevoir was not, in fact, doing anything uncouth. She was communicating with the Porygon about data from the dream realm. So what had...?

Yuan's support didn't seem to persuade the grunts who couldn't comprehend the hot water they were in. Ameena had stared down too many soldiers, insurgents, and worthless employees in all her years to be intimidated by someone who had a little height on her. "Allow my Gardevoir to express it more clearly, since you have hearing problems."[break][break]

Gardevoir projected the sentiment - GET BACK TO WORK - in their heads aggressively, the psychic message becoming headache inducing the longer the grunts failed to comply. Gardevoir's influence on the mind was unmatched among Ameena's pokemon. Ameena turned away from them and back to Yuan, unconcerned with them now that Gardevoir was going to keep them on a tight leash. "I am so glad they reached an understanding," she said to him pleasantly. "Let us return to the task at hand, hm?"

Tyranitar was a good choice. Earthquake, on the other hand, was less than ideal. It worked well to drop the horde because of the destabilization, but the cracks it generated on the asphalt they stood on warned her that things were going to go south quickly. The buildings nearest to them began to creak unhappily. [break][break]

"This city's infrastructure was already failing," she observed. "That earthquake is going to bring hell down on us." She whistled, short and sharp. Gardevoir used imprison to gather them all up in a pink, psychic box. "Return your pokemon to their capsules." Her order gave no room for negotiation. Beneath them, the earth split, but the imprison kept them from falling into its depths. [break][break]

Ameena sighed through her nose. "It is ok," she said, trying to get ahead of whatever panic or guilt she figured Gwen might feel. "The nature of ultra space means this will be returned to normal when we next return. The time-space functionality here is... altered." Gardevoir would then teleport them out of ultra space.

Magearna beeped beside her. Ameena sighed softly. Despite the neediness of the pokemon, she had a soft spot for her. Magearna was the lasting gift she had from Amor. She didn't want to harm the pokemon nor neglect her. It was sometimes hard to justify bringing her out for battle, as Ameena truly wanted to protect her, but she understood Duchess to be a protector. "Good girl," she praised at the Magearna's proximity, reaching out to rub at her head.

Ameena paused to open her bag. Magearna hovered beside her, curious. Ameena pulled out a small energy bar. "Not for you," she chided as the Magearna got even closer to it. She moved the bar out of reach. "You do not eat." Still, the Magearna was curious. Magearna left no personal space as it hugged close to her. She had no choice but to rise to the challenge of the war game. She imagined her partner felt the same way. After all, both of them were removed from the Rocket Gauntlet in round one. From trying to take each other out, as luck would have it. "Rhys Collins , are you ready?" Fortree wasn't a frequent stop for her, but she could follow basic directions like checking West defenses without needing assistance.[break][break]

The tension building from the natural pressure of needing to perform well made it a no-brainer to travel while taking high ground. It made things easier, too. She climbed up to a tree house and navigated the web of sky bridges. "I suspect our defenses will be fine," she said simply to speak and break the silence. [break][break]

She walked behind Gardevoir, but the psychic's floating left her unaware of the fractured wooden plank. She stepped on it without any special care, so her leg sunk immediately through the step and left it precariously holding onto the parts of the sky bridge she could reach.

Periodically, the scene around you will flicker to some completely different setting. Kanto's battlefield, a Rocket interrogation room, deep in a tera tunnel that's closed in. Various unconnected scenarios, but you are fine in all of them, standing in the same orientation you are now. June is there.

She is never standing. In each one, you are previewing a nightmare of your own making. Every worst case scenario for June, every fate you ever feared for her, it appears before you, then flickers to the hospital room now, then to the next scenario.
