The jagged pass was not scenic. She did enjoy a good hike, but her preference was somewhere forested. Mountainous areas were easier to appreciate in the spring. Fighting heat or cold really took the enjoyment out of the trip. Still, she hiked without complaint alongside Magearna. She was on the hunt for something special, and she thought she had seen a flicker of something up here that aligned with her wish.

Hoenn was a healthy mix of interesting characters and completely predictable parties, but this woman here was particularly stunning. Despite the Ceruledge's lack of interest in his trainer continuing to speak, Ameena held a hand out for a shake. "I love to see good instinct and battle awareness like you have. Dr. Ameena Abadi." She really only knew how to network, so all social meetings were inevitably formal. [break][break]

"I am always looking for security for my company, if you have any interest. Abundance Connections does not face a lot of attempted break-ins, and most of our security risk is really just cybersecurity, but you are clearly competent. I hope you will consider." She felt at ease when she was surrounded by competence, which was why she spent so much time at Rocket HQ. There were many brilliant minds in the organization. Many without a scientific background had even impressed her. [break][break]

"Please let me take you out in exchange for the quick action against these combee." She hadn't expected to see so many out and about, but they were a preferred pest to Skwovet.

Ameena fought the urge to arch a brow at her companion. 'How did that work?' How did any of the deities work? It was a silly thing to be hung up on. She turned fully from her partner and said, "We will contend with you, Admin Bee." [break][break]

Galarian Moltres appeared, generating a toxic gas. Ameena looked between Himiko and her pokemon partner. "No holding back," she said, though it was unclear if it was to Himiko or Gardevoir. Gardevoir mega evolved and used alluring voice on the deity. Ameena stood beside Himiko and whistled, prompting Gardevoir to use imprison around the two of them to protect them from the poison gas. [break][break]

It was up to Gardevoir and Himiko's illusory pokemon to hold their own against the Galarian Moltres. Belatedly, Ameena added, "I collect the variant colorings of pokemon when possible. It might be a silly hobby, but shiny pokemon are a status symbol in Galar. Hard habit to break, I suppose." Perhaps it was vain. But she did like to look at her team in their limited palettes.

Aqua seemed unsure. That was OK. Interrogation was a learned skill. The nature of the work required one to practice, as studying and running hypotheticals would not get one very far. Ameena had the practice, and Aqua clearly didn't. [break][break]

Ameena shared some words with the operative, turning from her companion to focus on him, but he wasn't convinced. In fact, he seemed very unconvinced. Ameena had a lot of flaws, but doubling down on a losing strategy wasn't one of them. She didn't ask Aqua for her preference and instead loomed over the operative. He had no personal space whatsoever. [break][break]

Ameena drew the dagger from her waist. She appeared to inspect it front of him, waiting silently. She hoped, behind her, Aqua was doing their best to at least look intimidating.

Too much gun. It was a good assessment that many men familiar with battle were incapable of reaching. Though she enjoyed the weapon, she completely agreed. It was unnecessary in many scenarios, though it would be excellent for the beginning of laying siege. His comment left her wondering if Howard was a master of restraint. It seemed he kept himself from either extreme that admin personalities tended to demonstrate, kept himself from desiring or wielding too much power, kept... a collection. A keeper, all around. [break][break]

In an organization of takers, of all things. [break][break]

'Interesting' had been her first assessment of him, and it turned out to be an apt one. As he hit the edge of the target, she couldn't help but feel pleased about that, too. "Your positioning looked good. A little practice should suffice." He demonstrated proper understanding of the mechanics of handling a rifle. From where she was standing, he demonstrated the proper demeanor - patience - for it, too. [break][break]

"For some hot stones and a launcher, I will find time to get my hands on something worth a spot in your collection." What it'd be, she couldn't say, but she felt optimistic about the interdream experiments she was going to run with Lulu. Trying to create something deep in the interdream mist and leave with it was a task likely filled with failures, but she'd let him keep the first keepsake that didn't need to be locked up in a laboratory for observation.[break][break]

With an inappropriately jovial tone, her goodbye came out: "See you on the battlefield."

Ameena ran a hand down her face, exhausted. Her participants were back where they belonged. Her Alakazam had helped place small trackers in the third-party grunts she had hired to kidnap the participants to begin with. She was running out of psychics to exhaust, so permitting her NDA-bound tech team to track these civilians would help her when she needed to gather them for a Rocket ruling - though, she had no idea if they would be sentenced to death or enrolled into some Rocket training plan, given they had been successful in the endeavor. [break][break]

Regardless. She was hard at work on her document, writing up all of her notes and preparing the data. She had to rush to get her thoughts together. She would be audited about this project, and she needed all the information gathered together in case they chose a hearing. They might choose something less considering. [break][break]

"What is that?" She did her best to keep everything in the laboratory grayscale. Only her small tools or samples were brightly colored for easier tracking. She reached for it.

He sounded so matter-of-fact about it. She looked between his Golurk and her Gardevoir and sighed deeply. Would either of them be ready for a League assault? If there was one right now? She didn't like how the fight played out in her mind. Her team was still organized around prioritizing her, fleeing with her. She needed more defensive pokemon, even if she figured that Rocket would be pushing offensively, aggressively, forcefully. [break][break]

Stupid, she didn't consider it now. [break][break]

She took a step back to assess how much work was left and noticed that Yuan and her were the only ones actively ordering their pokemon to labor. "HEY," she shouted at the trio of delinquents over yonder. "You better get back to it before I feed you to my Guzzlord." Guzzlord was the first thing that came to mind, though she had none to speak of. It was more terrifying than the other ultra beasts in the sense that it seemed ready to consume absolutely anything. At least the others would try to kill you in a regular manner.

You recognize that nothing is more crucial than strengthening Rocket's defenses. Striding purposefully towards the construction crew, you seize the steel beams, either with your own hands or the aid of your Pokémon. [break][break]

Together, you reinforce the inner walls of the tunnels, enhancing their structural integrity. Once complete, nothing will be able to breach them — not the League, nor any other entity that dares to breach Rocket's inner heart. [break][break]

However, no matter how tireless you and your Pokémon labor away, the pile of steel beams are a pit of despair. They are endless. The realization soon dawns that it's not due to the workload itself but because you are the only one working! Glancing up, you spot a group of other Rockets goofing off - engaging in idle chitchat, lounging around, or just being plain difficult. [break][break]

Nice. She actually did like rocks, but geology wasn't an encouraged field of study for her growing up. Not that dreams were, but it was really just a natural consequence of the loss of her mum. She had decided that no field of science would offer a solution to resurrect her mum; time "science" was far too theoretical for the massive amounts of resources dedicated to it. Dreams, on the other hand, were just understudied. [break][break]

As for the grenade launcher, she needed no further prompting. She aimed it easily, though she savored the sight through the scope before she pressed the trigger. The launcher offered less kickback than any other she'd held. Well-designed was an understatement, though she was glad the trial-and-error of its design was not her responsibility. [break][break]

The stacked barrels exploded into colored dust. "This is better than a spa day," she said, giddy. Adrenaline greeted her like an old friend, and she readied another shot further down the range. "But not by too much. If you like hot stones, I know a guy." She also loved dipping her feet into bags of hot wax for a pedicure to smooth the skin, but she had a hard time imagining Howard getting one. It was kind of hard to imagine him in shorts at all. [break][break]

The grenade lands by nothing at the far end of the range; she just wants to appreciate the sight of its own explosion. It destroys nothing but itself, leaves only scorch marks to suggest anything had been there at all. "If there are any launchers left over... it would make an excellent stocking stuffer at the winter social." She hoped to have one waiting for her, though it could not be reasonably stored in her office, as fun as that would be. She turned to Howard, feeling relaxed. "Want mine, or are you sticking to the rifle?"

As removed as she was from Galar, she felt a trickle of pride at his commentary. Though, she preferred a Ruger as far as firearms went. "Something you collect?" She prompted, curious. It wouldn't make a bad gift, but they weren't colleagues on a level that warranted something of that nature. Any offerings needed to be appropriately removed: refined, but artificial. If she was sending a meaningful gift, it'd either go to Lulu or be shipped to Amor, though she felt an ache in her chest at the thought of it. [break][break]

She followed him to the office with an arched brow. "Your office? I certainly hope you do not toss things around in there. Must be difficult to keep up with your paperwork." Her understanding of all the admins was that they were drowning in it, which disappointed her. She met too many great scientific minds in Rocket, and chaining any of them to an office felt counterproductive. [break][break]

She shooed off the grunt. "This is above your pay grade," she said sharply, letting them take their leave as they set up. She could appreciate the sniper rifle, given she was sniper certified and preferred to keep a distance in her fieldwork when it was serious, but she didn't want to invite a competition after all. She tightened her hold on the grenade launcher and turned from the proper gun range to the segment filled with various objects for exploding. [break][break]

Something about him was different than before. She knew better than to ask, especially as she could only imagine the pressure an admin was under with the impending battles. She kept him in her peripheral as they headed to the armory. "You have a leg up on me, then. I know any gun from a Galarian arsenal, but the standard weapons in different regions are generally different, given the emphasis on tradition and history in Galar. Not a lot of advancements beyond what was necessary." [break][break]

Her last C/O had been a musket enthusiast with a collection so well-kept and defined that he offered tours of the collection whenever he was on leave. She didn't suspect Howard had a spear collection, though. [break][break]
