His position was one she was unused to hearing. "Aspirations are different from the dreams our subconscious drums up." She doesn't want to dissuade him from any interest in the dream realm. "You can choose what you aim for, and some people even benefit from lucid dreaming. But those deep pits the mind falls into... I want to see how the subconscious picks a door, and how we can choose one for ourselves." [break][break]

The capacity to do so would let her see her mother. "The theory I hold would only make multiversal travel possible while sleeping - which is no small gain: we could play what-if scenarios out in real time with no consequence. We could find universes where our research is done, our battles are fought, our mistakes are made." [break][break]

She turned from him, wistful as the thought of her last words to her mum - an argument, of course - rang in her ears. A mistake she would spend her life correcting, even if it took every second. "The second half will be making the abstract real. I believe there might be a way to project our minds into those rooms and keep them there, waking up as yourself in a different universe. But those finer details... well, I admit they are messy, but it is pointless to concern myself with determining application when we have not yet confirmed theory." [break][break]

That, and she was nervous about the consequences of it. Would she be herself if she projected into another Ameena? Would her mum in any universe love her if she had possessed the woman's original daughter?

"I know my way around a kettle, a firearm, a little bit of interdream mist..." She was pleased with the list, though she would have never put kettle on it herself. Still, the scent of tea made her amenable to the simplicity of it. She mimicked him a prepared a piece of chocolate for after her first sip. [break][break]

"My research is only recently centered on the multiverse. Before, my research was public and constrained to the realm of ethics. It was like pulling teeth to get approved for the study on the impact of psychic moves on people, and that was just to determine how it positively impacted mental health." She rolled her eyes, then secured another piece of her treat to savor. [break][break]

She felt terribly behind, even if the presence of other dream research under Rocket's tutelage had comforted her that there was plenty of time and resource for progress. "But as I believe the multiverse to be a house with many rooms, and dreams opening the front door to this house, then I am seeking a way to control which room gets visited. I believe there is a way to decide. But proving it? I will need dumb luck, as intellect just does not cut it. Not yet, anyhow."[break][break]

She had theories about energy and otherworldly experiences influencing the way the subconscious selected a room, but no way to prove it without far more data. "At this current stage, I am looking for folks with otherworldly encounters. I just want to see what dreams arise. I can store the energy readings for later analysis and compare the numbers to those who have no such encounters." And if she didn't know better, his interest indicated he was considering being subjected to her sleep studies...

Ameena found her jaw literally dropping incrementally as Amor spoke, weaving a tale of an experiment that most certainly would contribute to her research. She had yet to utilize tera crystals, prioritizing interdream mist instead. That needed immediate adjustment. "Good to know the finer details of that experiment," she said as she collected herself. She wanted to smack him for not immediately telling her about the dream-tera relation, but she had voted to kill him, so. Perhaps, she had to let this one go. [break][break]

"Well. There seems to be a lot of consciousnesses here, so I believe this is a large scale of what you have described. I think this theory is our best shot at freedom. Fezandipiti showed our ward the desire mask. Dreams and desire are a huge piece of the puzzle here." She wondered if that was what the deities resided over. But three for desire? It wasn't so likely. [break][break]

Perhaps they reigned over the opposite of the wards, being wardens of those lesser than them. Beauty, strength, intellect. Those were qualities deserving of a deity, one who embodied it and could grant it. "I will tell my cellmates about this theory. Perhaps, I will see you in person tomorrow, out of shackles."

She arched a very intentionally unimpressed brow at him and his comment of sweet dark chocolate. If her face was warm, it was most certainly the heat emanating from the kettle. She pulled the boiling kettle off as it whistle but didn't pour. She considered his snack collection as she waited for the water to cool slightly. [break][break]

"Sweet, bitter, sour," she commented on his plentiful lemon-littered stash, "what an advanced palette. Reminds me of myself as a child." She smiled at the dig, then assessed the kettle and began to pour. "Black teas like this require a lesser temperature than a boil. Less heat than an Oolong prefers but a nose more than a White." [break][break]

The water was immediately tinged with color as it interacted with the tea bags in each cup. She much preferred this form of preparation over inserting the tea bags into the kettle; over-seeped tea became so bitter that it lost its finer notes. "The bergamot loses its subtle flavor when over-seeped, so giving it only three minutes to bloom is ideal." [break][break]

She placed the kettle down as they both now had steaming cups. "I will not be offended if you only taste the bitterness. There is no loss in adding cream and sugar - though I will naturally look down on you for it." As she waited for the tea, she considered the dark chocolate he placed before her. "How do you take care of yourself with such indulgences?"

"I have nothing but questions about your upbringing, but I do believe you... I might need to secure a therapist before I get into your past. You already make me feel like I am graying early." And okay, he was perhaps correct about condemning on a very technical level, but she wasn't happy about it. Guess that made two of them. [break][break]

"Do not take it as such a compliment," she insisted as she followed him. "I only mean that you are certainly harder on the eyes than I am." She turned more heads than he did, though perhaps he would have her beat when he's in his armor. [break][break]

The Megalopolans she saw wandering the city looked so happy. "I wonder what the relevance of this dream is. There is no way we selected this for ourselves, especially given that we are sharing a realm here. If the Megalopolans have a way to select dreamscapes like this, they are years ahead of my own research." She wanted a heist in the penitentiary, but she barely had the means to survive. She was at their mercy. [break][break]

"The breakthroughs they must have had in dream research to accomplish throwing us here... But putting that aside, they must have done this intentionally. Do you think they mean to make us regret their loss of civilization? To sympathize?"

Ameena hid her amusement at Cillian's comments by taking a sip. There was nothing more pleasurable than seeing someone else tease Amor. Arceus knew he deserved it. "Ah, she didn't stroke your ego," she echoed in a low, smoky tone. The maid cafe left one with some logical conclusions, but she didn't have a sparkling track record of accusing Amor of things after his misuse of honorifics did not, in fact, stem from a personal slight. [break][break]

Not that that would stop her from implying he was a misogynist. Life was about the simple pleasures. [break][break]

"But I believe we are gathered here for something bigger -" An unfortunate word choice as the endowed maid-waitress returned with some sweet pastries. Ameena leaned in, becoming more serious. "I hear there is an [infiltration I should be preparing for?" Infiltration was, perhaps, not the best substitute word for invasion, but there was enough background noise in the cafe that she felt somewhat safe discussing it in these terms.

Gwen gushed. It was pleasant to listen to. Ameena didn't have a lot of information on the names she dropped outside of the brief files she had read, but she had also had the privilege of no head-to-head interactions with Leaguers. She was behaving in her public persona as CEO, so there was little need to be appraised of potential League threats while she had more pressing matters.[break][break]

"No, you sound sweet. I am sure she likes you a lot. Anyone who thinks you are weird is limited in their thinking and beneath you." She paused on the staircase up to the outpost, turning to give Gwen her full attention, straight-faced. "Do not let anyone take value from you. You are powerful. There will always be someone preying on your downfall, such is life as an accomplished woman, but I trust you will not hesitate to keep the pests from taking you down." [break][break]

She had experienced nothing but obstacles and adversaries in her rise to power in the military, and too-ethical researchers had limited her studies until she found herself in Rocket's good graces. Gwen had potential as a researcher, professor, and Ranger, but she had to let go of these inhibitions. [break][break]

Ameena opened the door to let them both back into the outpost. She began checking locks while Kirlia investigated the space for any energy output that needed adjustment. "This will be a good base of operations for future endeavors. We just need to make sure there are no leaks or exposed wires anywhere that could cause a fire while unattended." Though such an occurrence was unlikely. The base had been abandoned for a long time without trouble, but now it had active power flowing through it. Better safe than sorry.

Elisabeth's comment was a good reminder: she needed to not get ahead of herself. Further, her suggestion about familial relationships was a fair one. She was sure there was something there, since there were so few deities that did not explicitly have exclusively combative relationships with their counterpart(s), but perhaps family was the wrong framework. Or, she was thinking too limited with the theory - that families, in reality, were messier than the idea of family. [break][break]

But it required more observation and study before she could be sure of anything at all. [break][break]

"Do you think," she started, considering how Elisabeth had been the one to ask about Fini's intentions towards Rocket, "Tapu Fini's search for revenge will lead Her away from Rocket's interests?" Perhaps Elisabeth had held some nervousness about Fini's future path, if the deity would force Elisabeth to give up her position because of them turning on the organization. [break][break]

Revenge was interesting any way she cut it; Ameena would need to get more information on the other Tapus and their goals. So far, nothing confirmed her hopes for dream realm connections.

She had heard nothing about Howard besides that he was an archeologist. His humor caught her off-guard, and she barked a laugh as he called his paperwork otherwordly. "Well, let us avoid an additional incident report," she mused as they finished dropping off the eggs. [break][break]

His question garnered her full attention. "I believe the multiverse is a house with endless rooms. Every dream opens the front door. Once in you are in the house, your subconscious picks a room. I think it is possible to revisit the same room, but what is more important is gaining the capacity to control your positioning in the dream realm consciously, so we can choose the room. When you wake, you return to your own reality." [break][break]

She considered her own theory thoughtfully. The actual function of the dream realm was abstract and unclear and she hadn't even figured out how to figure out what made it tick. "Using those with otherworldly experiences is my application of Locard's exchange principle: if every contact leaves a trace, there is a trace of something on people who have encountered deities and otherworldly phenomena like space distortions. I want to see if these people attract the same energy they bring into the realm. Perhaps, there is something or some force in the dream realm that is attracted to this energy, that leads them where they need to go." [break][break]

She sighed. "It is a little far-fetched. For all the developments Lulu Flint and I have made, there are far more questions than answers." And only so many subjects she could personally test without mass abduction; which, to be totally honest, she was building towards. She just had to make sure her company and her public identity wouldn't be negatively impacted. She had be to stealthier than that.

She could appreciate the value of having an office of your own. While she was rarely in it, her office at AbCon was catered to her tastes. It was a great environment to read up on reports. "Well, so long as you remain loyal, you should look good comparatively," she offered, looking on the bright side. There was no one she wanted to take over for in Rocket; all of them big shoes. [break][break]

The eggs were collected on the borrowed cart from Shipment. "Good; we can get these over for their intended dispersing." She led the way to the oversized, industrial room filled with logistical nightmares she could never wrap her head around. [break][break]

His question pleased her. "Nothing crazy, of course. You sleep, and my Musharna eats. I wonder if your otherworldly experiences will reveal some unique energy trails within the dream - breadcrumbs to follow back to the originating pulse of the dream realm. Enough dreams, enough exposure, enough energy... and I may have access to the multiverse within our dreams." It was, of course, ambitious, but Hoenn was ripe with otherwordly creatures and experiences, and all her seniors in Rocket were marked by such events. Everyone she ran into had come toe to toe with multiple deities. The opportunity was tantalizing.

Her cell is especially cold and isolating after meeting Amor in her dreams. She knows he is out there in this prison, but the knowledge makes her feel bitter. She wants her allies. She does not want these strangers. She wants Lulu to study the Megalopolan city dreamscape, but she has no chance of making a single successful move until she finishes surviving. [break][break]

It's a harrowing thought. [break][break]

Her mood sours further as the deities take action. "Fezandipiti," she repeats after the chant ends. It summons bile. She has to screw her eyes shut and clutch against the wall, hoping she doesn't throw up with this suffocating mask on her face, as she will surely suffocate. The thought is so visceral, so real, she finds herself choking for an insane second before she comes back to herself. She has never taken a knee before a pokemon, and she will not be bested by one now. [break][break]

If Fezandipiti is a god of the caliber of Groudon and Necrozma, then this is her object lesson. Too many of her peers have tried to warn her about the rising threats and growing strong in the face of it; now, her survival is everything. [break][break]

"Both of you. Amor Rose told me about how tera crystals impact dreams. Our collective dream last night about Megalopolis is because of the Megalopolan desires. If we all desire and dream to be free, the tera crystals can create a collective reality... well, let us not get into the finer details. Try it, will you? Both of you? I need you to want to be free more than anything you have ever wanted." Amor was not the dream scientist of the two of them, but his prior experience was evidence enough that this could work again.

She knew a little about Theo. He held a reputation for wanting to take things by force. Kanto had made a real impression on the Hoenn branch of Rocket, and Ameena discovered its reach more and more each day. It should have made for common ground, but she didn't see herself in many of the soldiers she had met so far. [break][break]

She couldn't help herself, curiosity winning over any desire to insist they leave the uncomfortable dream setting. "Do you agree with his methods? That we should always take by force?" She wanted to understand Zev better, given how she had met no Rocket quite like him, yet he was capable and calculating and someone she would turn to should she need another death. She preferred to never burn bridges until the flames served a greater purpose than whatever lie on the other side. [break][break]

"I think there are many in this organization who are capable of great demonstrations of strength, and there are many who excel in other ways. I am not unwilling to grow my strength, but I am not sure I will ever achieve the survivability that one would need to live a long life in this region." Not with new threats and the likes of the DRK Triad around. "It seems more fruitful to play to my own strengths - that within a laboratory. Not that I ever intend to roll over and die." Or did he intend for all Rocket members to undergo this kind of preparation?

The thing about Zev was that he made it look easy. She wasn't sure how he was so comfortable fighting in the dream world, which was wholly unpredictable, when she herself felt out of place fighting in it. She knew he couldn't be more familiar with these dreams than she was, so it must have been his battle prowess and IQ. Still, she wasn't often in a position to feel so inferior, and it stung her ego. [break][break]

She followed without complaint, equally unused to defying a chain of command, and he was clearly the leader here. The new room shifted in blobs of color until it settled into the breakroom. Ameena wanted comfort and safety, so she was glad the chaos of before had shed into something designed for relaxation - within reason, of course. The breakroom had no luxuries. [break][break]

She found a hot cup of tea in her hands. With her heartrate slowing, she considered what Zev had been urging her to understand. "Amor Rose already advised me to keep building my team's strength if I want to survive the coming threats. I will have to spend more time fighting in unfavorable conditions if I want to keep my head." She sighed softly, wishing these realizations had come easier and earlier. It would take more exposure to not feel so inferior before a god. There was obviously no shortage of them. [break][break]

"Besides yourself, and others with your kind of abilities, who would you say has the greatest survivability? I need some... achievable models of success." She was never going to have the capacity Zev did for combat, but she didn't have to be a slouch, either. He was dedicated enough to the organization to support the growth of its members, so she hoped he could point her in a good direction for further growth - and hopefully a more theoretical manner of study.

Lulu had a lot of weight to throw around when it came to Ameena's decision-making, so she considered the fellow scientist's take on importance carefully. It wasn't like Ameena wanted to abandon her life's work, but she could only work enough to keep herself from thinking about the fear Eternatus had instilled in her, and not enough to keep from feeling it. [break][break]

But she felt relief. She would keep on with her projects. She had a large one coming up, if things worked out alright. [break][break]

Ameena paused bring the tea to her mouth at Lulu's sudden change in topic. The DRK Triad again? Was there a development? "No, he has not," she answered. They'd spoken about Megalopolans, but their discussions were largely about otherworldly threats and not the space-manipulating group that Ameena could barely wrap her head around. "I have not heard this name before. What is going on?" She feared the worst. Hoenn had no shortage of dangers, and if Lulu was concerned about it, Ameena had great reason to worry.
