i am so tired

this time, it didn't seem like the registeel had been deterred by the attacks at all, instead summoning a barrage of thunder to direct towards the group. wait, could registeel even do that? kasper was no means an expert on giant, terrifying robot pokemon, but the idea of it being able to do something so different was lost to them.

kind of like how they were in the chaos. in an attempt to scramble away, they realized they couldn't see anyone but their pokemon as well. fuck.

kasper had survived the trip down without much of an issue, somehow, but this was a whooole other thing. it takes one look at whatever they’re facing for them to wince and turn away just as quickly. It’s pulsing like a heart or something, and beyond that the area around it seems to twist and distort in a way that makes it painful to look at. awful.

things calm, just for a second, just like before. in the aftermath of the onslaught of attacks, it's hard not to feel hopeful that it's done with- that this is the registeel's tomb and that they can all go home. it'd take until next year for kasper to get rid of all the sand, but anything would be better than this.

and then, just like last time, the registeel bounces back to life like the blows hadn't impacted it at all. maybe they hadn't, in the long run. maybe they were all fighting a losing battle. maybe they'd need to call in tomorrow, if they weren't forcibly hospitalized.

gym challenge: quick badge

the attack hadn't went the way kasper wanted- and, in that sense, they meant that it hadn't landed at all. the flying type was already high above the tyranitar by the time the rock was even thrown, leaving it to fall- a bit miserably- back down and hit the floor with a heavy thunk.

while the kilowattrel had obviously survived, the floor of the gym was...maybe a different story? probably not? kasper would be surprised if there was damage, truthfully, considering the way gyms were probably usually built for this sort of thing.

regardless of if they had done their homework (they hadn't), the other pokemon was both too far up and moving too fast for carnnation to reach. they'd just have to hope, somehow, that the tyranitar could get a move in before the final blow.

for just a second, everything seems calm. almost too calm, really- the storm quiets, and, had the effects the fight with the registeel left on the land not been visible, it would have almost been enough for kasper to have some hope. not much. but enough.

and then it turns into chaos again just as quickly. the registeel aims a beam at point blank range- and, with that, any remaining ideas of leaving are quickly pushed away because...yeah. yeah, they'd absolutely die in that. they can see yarrow running back to join them, and they're almost relieved to see that the sylveon, although a little battered by the storm, seems okay enough to keep fighting.

"use covet! go for one of those weak spots!" it's a risky move, and they know it- maybe that's why, before they can think twice about it, they're giving yarrow a pat on the head. for good luck.

with the registeel seemingly unimpacted- by anything- kasper tries to think of something that isn't very much going to die. it doesn't work. the big pokemon charges forward, swinging its fists down, and the noise kasper makes reminds them more of the yelp of a small dog than anything more dignified as they scramble back, debating just abandoning ship and leaving the others to their fate.

but also- because there's safety in numbers and they don't want to be targeted by splitting- they stay. also because they don't want to see someone get flattened into a pancake, thanks. "yarrow, protect- someone." they're not sure where the sylveon is in the chaos, or even if she survived the initial attack. at least not at first. if she did, with the people murmuring the answer to the riddle- ruination- she may have not even heard them.

there's a flurry of blue, pink and white movement that kasper thinks is probably the sylveon as she bounds away to shield a complete stranger (Naomi Sato) with draining kiss.
