keiko can appreciate minerva's interest. it's clear there's history and a depth of feelings that surround minerva's thoughts on almighty sinnoh, but the blonde approaches it with more neutrality than Althus Rex had, despite each of their misgivings. [break][break]

"the first hour of sunrise is the beginning of the light of day. the beginning is important, of course. the last hour of sunset is the end of it - or the beginning of dusk, depending on perspective."[break][break]

almighty sinnoh was a large faith, once wholly held by the region of sinnoh with few dissenters. consequently, so many sects and traditions and reinterpretations had occurred, though the most egregious were those that praised the wrong god. [break][break]

keiko considered herself a purist, a more correct follower than many others. [break][break]

"some people treat the hour of their birth as a special moment each day. others treat the minute of their birth as a lucky number to guide them through life. but beginnings, endings, and everything in between are equally important. this is the truth of almighty sinnoh. all time is important and never wasted. it should preserved, revered, cherished; for it is always fleeting."[break][break]

her life began in the same second as someone's end. and she came from archivists - preservation was her nurture and nature. it was inescapable. [break][break]

keiko listened carefully, interested in what minerva could share. the thread of connection between keiko and minerva due to the latter's mother was promising, though keiko felt something inside her close off as minerva suggested -[break][break]

if the tone carried disapproval, keiko's contented expression refused to confirm it. but she walked in a world there was one truth - one where everyone owed praise to the god of time for her excellency - so it was one thing to excuse someone for not knowing the faith and choosing others, and another entirely to know of almighty sinnoh and continue to turn to face other gods.[break][break]

but this was not minerva's sin to bear.[break][break]

"serenity is a good word for it. yes, i follow almighty sinnoh. i actually landed to set up a sun dial. it's about time to set up camp out here, and all keepers of time are precious to us followers."[break][break]

she pulled a metal one from her pocket. she'd crafted it from gears and scrap metal from the mechanical kingdom, believing that ultra wild to be a holy space for her deity. [break][break]

"i think hoenn is uniquely positioned to receive the blessings of the divine."

after Eris Halla revealed that hoenn faced far greater dangers than that posed by rocket, keiko had dedicated more time to preparing herself to fight deities, paranormal occurrences, and the cosmos themselves. she leapt at the opportunity to visit the rks with someone far more experienced. yuina's guidance was a godsend.[break][break]

nothing could have prepared her for the realistic scene that unfolded around her. she loved slowpoke more than any other pokemon given how many she collected and how flexible they were as combatants. as delicious as she knew their tails were - from far beyond her trainer days, of course, she certainly wouldn't eat one now - she hated that the simulation would throw them into a situation to butcher tails and be verbally abused. it was second nature to abstain from the practice.[break][break]

born into celestic town where tradition lovingly cradled every element of the culture there, keiko's first reaction to hearing 'ritual' is one of warmth. she has countless that she performs herself, but they are exclusively performed alone because of how few sinnoh followers she had found here.[break][break]

genuine remorse fills the response, but keiko's also noticed that the other woman's not reacted with great hostility. keiko sees an opportunity.[break][break]

almighty sinnoh holds two sects, but she belongs to the correct one, that one that values time above all else. she's made hundreds of sundials all over hoenn, of different sizes and materials, to practice her faith whenever necessary. fire's temporary state but permanent scars make it easy to appreciate, but the shreds of paper suggest it's a form of manifestation and releasing negativity. belatedly, she realizes she's still a stranger. she extends a hand in case the other is willing to shake.[break][break]

the hydro pump use is clever. several of the youth awe and cheer at the sight of it. it begs the question of how many of them will try to do similar techniques at home with their own pokemon...

the best time of year is winter. the ice preserves what it holds. the cold makes the world seem to rotate slower. it prompts a thoughtfulness that speaks to keiko, and it gives her a greater appreciation for the passage of time.

hoenn has no shortage of scenic spots for the winter, so keiko lets togekiss soar to find a new one to sit at for a brief meditation.[break][break]

the fairy lands them on an occupied outcropping without realizing it. keiko catches on first: there's a woman burning paper. for a brief moment, keiko thinks it is to ask for help, but the idea is brushed away quickly. this woman is clearly not in distress, and the fire is not great enough to launch a large smoke signal. she can't help her curiosity and finds herself compelled to ask:[break][break]

alina's diplomacy in describing her totodile is admirable. keiko can appreciate the way the other trainer seems to cringe at ronan's brief reign of terror in the silk supplies. and then they're called up to the stage.

a light dusting of glitter filled the air backstage as everyone finished dolling up their pokemon. she stifled a sneeze but surrendered to a cough-laugh at alina's question.
