The second another problem presented itself, Kat forgot about the search, about Chryssy, while their sister can think of nothing else. Between that and only the Audino moving, it's a miracle that the eldest Kubrick is not outright vicious in her response. Snapping as she does, Lavinia hardly notices what she's said until the nurse's question. Thankfully, they're cut off midway through and she's spared the embarrassment of admitting to her fear. [break][break] The price for that, of course, is that Katharina promptly sets off to tend to this injured Pokémon. By the holy goat, she really can't have shit, can she? Thinking to herself that she would have taken the embarrassment over yet another delay, Lavinia mutters "Oh, for fuck's sake —" before following. It isn't like she has a better choice without any leads on Chrys' whereabouts. [break][break] By the time she arrives, two Rocket grunts are already on the scene. She has half a mind to tell them who her mother is and to leave her the hell alone, but of course, she's right in front of a League nurse and this pair of idiots might decide to tell Calpurnia that her daughter is out in Route 104 because — wait a second, ma'am, we'll ask her why — and then she would be well and truly screwed. [break][break] She's starting to think the universe is laughing at her. [break][break] Scratch that, the universe is definitely laughing at her. [break][break] Lavinia's first impulse is to answer Katharina with a resounding "No", but her rational mind tells her that this is the smart choice; or maybe even the only choice, as Lavinia herself is deprived of her partners. Before she can decide on an answer the grunts are attacking, and for all that they're stupid they are also sending Pokémon out to attack. Lavinia moves to back away, hide behind Katharina, anything, but before she can take more than a step a fearsome roar echoes. [break][break] She freezes instantly, as though rooted in place, all the blood draining from her face and her knees trembling so badly that she thinks she might collapse. She's utterly powerless, incapable even of self-defense, and she's afraid of the creature on her own damn side. She wishes Chryssy would appear, safe and sound, and it would all be over. She wishes her mom would — [break][break] Thinking of her mother is all that prevents Lavinia from spiraling, not because of the consequences if she should fail here but because she remembers that Mommy, too, is afraid; and that she doe not let fear hinder her but turns it into power, wields Pokémon like tools as they are needed. That's what Kat is doing now: Using Iron Thorns like a weapon, a weapon he'll put away again once its purpose is fulfilled. Like Calpurnia; and, like Calpurnia Kubrick, Lavinia must not fear. She must let the fear pass over and through her, so that once it has gone past there will be nothing. [break][break] I must not fear, she tells herself again, gaze darting around for something to wield as a weapon. [break][break] A weapon suddenly presents itself, perhaps in answer to her newfound courage, as Kalliope comes floating out of the trees. If she had any news, Lavinia trusts that they would be relayed. Instead the Hatterene's focus is on the two opponents before them, and the desire for violence that emanates from her is all but palpable; heightened by the scent of blood, no doubt. Good. If she is present for Kalliope's rampage, her Trainer can take all the more pleasure in it. [break][break] "Go ahead, my darling," Lavinia begins softly, "the holy goat knows you need that release." As she does too. Her smile morphs into something far more sinister as she adds, "Do your worst."[break][break] That would have been a dangerous command to give any Hatterene and it's doubly so for this one, yet her Trainer's smirk only widens as she unleashes Psycho Cut on the enemy Mightyena and immediately follows up with Brutal Swing.
