MARVELOUS ART adorns every inch of wall space throughout the museum. each painting is unequivocally different from the next. it goes beyond the subject of depiction: technique, medium—every aspect is foreign in a way that defies the principles of art.

a particular centerpiece sticks out more than the others. a crowd clusters around the hallway length canvas. it reads: A LAND BEFORE TIME. the description on its plaque refers to a mysterious and profound era.

deeper into the museum are sections cut off by velvet ropes and brass stanchions. signs read ‘exhibit in process’ with paper barriers hiding away the unsightly display of unpacked boxes and leftover moving materials.

several museum employees come out of one of these cornered off areas. you can overhear snippets of their conversation as they pass by.

“everyone's going up front to see the curator.”

“really? i heard she's a total babe.”

“i heard she left ever since the league lost her shipment last year.”

SHADOW POKEMON

A QUICK REFERENCE SHEET

TO ASSIST WITH NEWER PLAYERS, here is a quick excerpt on SHADOW POKEMON and their relevance.

SHADOW POKEMON are an elusive set of pokemon discovered after the ULTRA BEAST WAR. when megalopolan’s invaded hoenn during the autumn of 2020, their NAGANADEL and NIHILEGO were able to poison local pokemon. their NEUROTOXIN had an adverse effect on these pokemon that changed them at a biological level.

this can be active knowledge for those who were in hoenn at the time in-character. it’s also possible that your character isn’t aware due to how few SHADOW POKEMON there were. regardless of your choice, it should be noted that they should have no clue as to the shadow’s pokemon unique abilities.

you CANNOT CATCH these pokemon in this thread.

you may almost defeat them by the end of the thread but they WILL FLEE BEFORE THEY FAINT. this will be addressed in the final mod post along with the conclusion.

for reference, their ability sheet is listed below to assist in roleplaying them out.

RANGER RAID REDUX

REPORTS FROM YOUR FELLOW RANGERS reveal that something has headed toward mount pyre. hot on the heels of whatever escaped from the league barracks, these rangers are in a race against time to pacify whatever has found its way up the mountain. not only must they navigate treacherous terrain, they must also consider the numerous trainers that have come in the pursuit of unown.

mount pyre’s owner, samuel carter, has abruptly left to handle business overseas. he’s entrusted his companion, KELDEO, to oversee the vast mountain range. it serves as both the first and last line of defense against those who look to infringe upon these hallowed grounds.

it faces off against two fearsome pokemon: SHADOW KROKODILE and SHADOW AGGRON. these pokemon exhibit vicious behavior with no qualms against harming people and pokemon alike. their blackened hearts know no reason or compassion—only that the strongest survive and everything is merely prey.

OBJECTIVES

• assist with evacuating trainers and pokemon away from the battle.
• utilize CJ Mizikar's expertise as a certified pokemon vet tech to assist an injured pokemon.
• protect 1 trainer that gets caught in the crossfire.
• at least 2 rangers must be injured by the SHADOW POKEMON.
• at least 6 pokemon must faint against the SHADOW POKEMON.
• at least 1 pokemon must die against the SHADOW POKEMON. this can be an NPC or wild pokemon.
• Orion Lykos's SILVALLY will enter a BERSERK RAGE when pit against the SHADOW POKEMON. reference this before the thread's end.
• keldeo must lose this battle.
• keldeo will have its horn broken and torn off by a SHADOW POKEMON.
• keldeo must flee, injured and terrified, by the end of the thread.
• a ranger must use a move or ability that causes INFATUATION.
• a ranger must notice that INFATUATION does not work on these SHADOW POKEMON.
• at least 2 rangers must notice that the SHADOW POKEMON seem more powerful as the battle goes on.
• at least 2 rangers must notice that the SHADOW POKEMON become significantly more powerful near the end of the battle.
• at least 1 ranger or pokemon must be hit by a surprise attack from an unknown NPC. the attack can be either THUNDER BOLT or SHADOW BALL.
• the SHADOW POKEMON should flee by the end of the thread.
• have Lux Defort use his skills as a sketch artist to depict these SHADOW POKEMON. they will have some notable features such as extra spikes or elongated claws.

FIRST POST

RANGER BASE is in chaos upon their return. numerous reports about possible situations on ROUTE 120 and MOUNT PYRE require immediate attention. Kaida Adachi’s report is lost among countless stacks of papers as the rangers are debriefed on the situation.

locals have reported violent pokemon that seem to have no qualms with attacking people. supposedly, there have been no causalities. however, as the trail from the LEAGUE BARRACKS reveals, that isn’t always the case. the vivid memory of dead pokemon still wallows in the back of their mind.

upon their return to the field, their sense of tracking and affinity for nature helps steer them in the right direction. toxic residue serves as the perfect breadcrumbs. every drop burns through whatever it touches. whether it be plant, rock, or the ground itself. those who served during the POISON PATROLS may recognize this poison’s potency.

eventually, following these tracks reveals an opening in the thick fortree vegetation. precisely cut trees with exposed bark point down a path that no one has ever traveled down. an unnatural darkness seems to surround them, blanketed by the forest’s endless canopy.
