Setting the mood [M]

It wasn’t a surprise that this ranch was having issues getting the Pangoros to mate. The setup they had for the Pokémon’s living areas weren’t great and they were most definitely not taking care of them in the most proper way.

But it was no worry as Eva was on the job now and she didn’t waste any time getting straight to work.

She got their enclosure changed which was a good start to getting the Pangoros more comfortable. They were still being a bit stubborn and antagonistic towards each other but with a bit of time, she was sure that would go.

”Well hopefully whatever that surprise is it’s worth the wait.” She scoffed, he sure had an optimistic viewpoint on things. It was a weird, given their organization and occupation you wouldn’t expect the boss of said group to be like this.

Hell, the last guy was definitely not like this at all which was probably why he got brought down. Cadis seemed to think fondly of him though, Eva wasn’t impressed. Didn’t he get killed by a dog whisperer or something?

”That’s enough about rocket. How about another song? I’m pretty sure the entire place would love another.”

”Go get them, tiger!” Eva joked, waving him off as he walked toward the stage. She’d make herself comfortable, leaning he arm down the table and resting her chin in her hands as she waited to hear whatever Cadis would bless them with.

And now Eva wasn’t sure what to expect from the Rocket Boss but if she had to put money on the type of song that was going to be coming from him she did not expect this in the slightest and especially not for him to be so good at it.

”Well damn, you weren’t joking about that never before stuff.” Was all that she said in response to a hell of a show.

”Contests huh?”

Eva was quite familiar with the contest world. Having been born and raised in Kalos and especially since a good portion of her life she lived in Lumoise that world was inescapable. None of it ever really interested Eva, despite having been forced into it at times.

If she had to pick she’d choose battling but even that eventually would get to be boring. But Cadis’ perspective was much more genuine than she expected it to be. ”Those days are a thing of the past for me.” She sighed, just thinking about it made her tired and annoyed.

”I think whatever I had in terms of being what people would expect as ‘artistic’ died a while ago. But hey why don’t you show me what you’ve got. This is your arena, right?”

”I can’t say that I’m really-“ She looked around before turning back to Cadis. ”The type for this sort of thing.” Eva finished, giving Cadis a shrug before leaning back in her seat.

”As long as you’re enjoying yourself I suppose it’s alright and who knows maybe someone in here can actually sing. I'm not really the artistic type.” She was fully expecting most people to be horrible. The mention of something she hadn’t seen before had her raise a brow.

”Oh? Well now I’m interested.”

She was only here because he asked her to accompany him given that this was a new spot. Under no circumstances was she here to actually get up there and sing like a fool. So she would sit back and watch Cadis and anyone else who wanted to get up there sing their hearts out but she was going to stay seated.

She’d call their Pokémon back and get their equipment packed up. ”Oh I’d love to!” She smiled, hiding her rage behind a happy face. Eva then looked over to her Incineroar and smiled even more.

”And I think I know just how I’m going to dish out said punishment. So yeah let’s be on our way!”

”Thomas Benoit, huh?” Maybe she’d keep that name in mind, if he was interesting to Cadis maybe he was worth looking into. Or she’d forget about it by the time she got home, who knows. Eva blinked at Cadis’ comment, which was quite a declaration he was making.

”I’ll be ready, of course.” She replied as he walked away. Eva shrugged and went to eat the bit of her cotton candy that was left.

Eva stared intently at the screen, excited to discover a new ultra beast. Cadis’ words just made the anticipation even worse, her face getting closer to the screen as they tried to figure out what Pokémon they were looking at.

”It's not an ultra beast that's for damn sure! Just a bunch of dumb fish! Luvdisc and wishiwashi.” She couldn’t believe this shit, it really was just a bunch of luvdisc and wishiwashi.

”I’m sure it’s changed for the worse.” Eva laughed as she picked out her prize, deciding to go with a large plush Poochyena.

”And they change so often that I don’t think there’s really a point in meeting any of them if I turn around and tomorrow there’s a new one.” She added, thinking to herself if she didn’t keep the plush she might know someone in mind who might want it.

”But they might be fun to smack around a bit.” Eva snickered. ”Any of the stand out to you that are worth mentioning?”

”Quite handy.” Eva said in reply to Cadis’ comment on their Pokémon. She pulled out an electronic pad device, turning it on and after a few swipes she had a video feed of their Pokémon at work. It was the result of a camera she had attached to her Starmie. The scientist made sure that her boss had a view of the pad as well to watch their progress with her.

”I haven’t just yet but I’ve had experience handling one.” It wasn’t the most successful experience but it was an experience nonetheless.

”Our wonder-boy Priam brought to me a shadow Pokémon and we studied its behavioral habits. They’re absolutely interesting creatures to watch.” She replied, her eyes not moving from the screen in her hands.

”Yeah I think I’ll have to give that a hard pass.” Eva laughed, waving away the thought of her mingling with the league. ”I’ve had my fair share of dealing with league types.” And she never enjoyed any interaction with them. If they weren’t pestering her with some dumb thing they wanted her help with they were trying to tell her all of the things she couldn’t do.

She was content with just watching Cadis, she hadn’t seen him just relaxing and enjoy himself. It was nice. ”Oh?” She took a step forward and tried her hand at the game.

A brief moment to collect herself and then the dart went flying, a bulls-eye! ”Oh nice, still got it! But maybe if they’re as fun as you say they are they might be worth my attention.” Eva smiled.

Eva summoned her own Starmie to assist as well, they’d need all the fire power they could get going up against an Ultra Beast, despite how it most likely wouldn’t end up being much other than cannon fodder. And her starmie was familiar with handling Eva’s equipment so it would be able to assist there as well.

”Despite how much this pains me to say this but with this limited resources we have on hand we won’t be able to do much.” She sighed.

”We’ll have to do most of our work from a distance, but I suppose beggars can’t be choosers.” And she wasn’t trying to get her mind snatched or murdered.

Cadis truly was an interesting one, which was probably why Eva was to content with him as the boss. ”Well I definitely understand how you feel there.” To her spending most of one’s time working was much more fun than wasting it doing what people would normally consider “fun”. Though that meant that she frequently got too wrapped into her work and forgot to do things like eat.

”I don’t think anyone can really answer that but darts it is.” It wouldn’t be hard to find a stall that had darts, something that Eva hadn’t played it quite a long time.

”Wanna go first?”
