Doing this sort of work wasn’t exactly Eva’s scene.

She preferred to be in her lab working on different experiments and pushing the boundaries of her field, not spelunking in old dusty tombs looking for treasure and whatever other nonsense people got killed over when they came to places like this.

But alas her she was in the godforsaken desert looking into the entrance of a ruin.

She wasn’t nervous or afraid about what they could find in there it honestly didn’t interest her that much but maybe this might turn her opinion around and despite the fact that she was stuck with some rocket grunts she also had one person she liked being around to make things better.

”How’d you get roped into this?” She’d ask the other scientist.

This was supposed to be a nice relaxing, definitely not forced, walk to get out of the lab but it had to go and be disturbed by some idiot looking for a battle.

And to make matters even worse the idiot wasn’t even a good fight. It was so uneventful it had the woman yawning.

”Oh, it’s already over?” Normally she’d blast someone for wasting her time like this but she felt merciful. And leaving the trainer to tend to their Pokémon Eva continued her walk.

Solo Wild

Eva didn’t really care for the supposed blight the people of this town were suffering from nor did she care about whatever promise or reassurance was given to them about how that said blight was going to be deal with, she just wanted to see if it was true or not.

These Pokémon don’t normally act like this so she wanted to see firsthand this odd behavior and try to find the cause of it for her own curiosity, and if they got paid in the process then that was fine too she figured.

Though she might not want to fix the problem at first, maybe run a few experiments beforehand.

”Priam when the Jynx show let’s wait a second before dealing with them. I want to observe their actions first.”

”I’ll be sure to keep you informed should anything come up.” Eva replied. She’d shake her head as Gavin went on and explained to her one of those myths people would regurgitate thoughtless, finding the statement to be utterly ridiculous.

”Please do and let me know if it ever does cause that forty-day storm.” It seemed that their business was done but his follow-up question had Eva pause for a moment.

She thought about it for a moment before her eyes turned to the underboss.

”Perhaps if this was a normal shadowfication there might be some possible way of reversing the process.” Eva began, pulling up the data on Shadow Lugia via her tablet.

”But given the extent of this one and the physical altercation to the Pokémon’s physical form the state suggests that this form is permanent.” She then begins to further explain, a hand rubbing her chin as a part of her mind stayed focus on mulling over the idea of complete reversion.

”What I meant was that you can simply bringing the Shadow Lugia in and undergoing further tests and experiments to make it more obedient through the device I mentioned before. This should only be necessary if it truly goes out of control.”

”No loud music or banging on the walls so I can’t complain.” Eva replied, her focus locked onto the man residing with the cell on the other side of the mirror. The head scientist was excited to have one alien general in their custody but to have two?

And on top of that, the other one being the infamous Jules Cotillard was a fantastic surprise.

”Would have been nice to have the complete set staying with us but I’m glad we got this one.” It was such a shame that the other general at Mauville died and the other one at Meteor falls was beyond her reach.

”Have you managed to persuade our guest to be more open about sharing company secrets?”

And of course as soon as they stepped in they were attacked by a Megalopolan riding their Naganadel.

”Dragon Claw.” Right on cue Guzzlord’s mandibles stretched out, the energy surrounding the mouth ends of them that make a claw and then struck the Naganadel. The force of the attack knocked the rider of which Eva’s own Naganadel was quick to strike, piercing the alien’s body with its stinger.

”Marcel.” Eva would turn to the Admin, her Pokémon disposing of their would-be attackers would take a moment as while Guzzlord could consume the Naganadel its body was bigger than its own so it would take a moment.

”Tell me about this wire Ultra Beast, the one you encountered at Mauville. A calculated report is one thing so I’d prefer to hear a more personal account. A creature held together by 'zip-ties' demands further discussion.”

”Oh is it? I wonder if they had any second thoughts about the cruelty of their actions when they were eating and killing people. Or when their invasion caused Pokemon to berserk and begin blindly attacking people and causing chaos.” Not as if the scientist didn't care about whether or not what she was currently doing was cruel or otherwise.

The hope with this attack was to draw out another ultra beast and when there looked to be movement within the smoke and dust the scientist became eager to see what was going to step out and was ultimately disappointed with what she got.

A random assortment of Pokémon poured out of the now widened entrance Eva had made with her last attack.

”Fodder.” She sighed. Surely these Pokémon were put under the same conditions as those that were causing havoc around the region is large numbers not too long ago but Eva had little interest in that.

”Alright then, time to eat. Stinger take care of the stragglers.” Eva released the Guzzlord from its capsule, the appearance of said creature making Eva’s assistant take themselves and the equipment and back up.

The miniature Guzzlord wasted no time indulging in the buffet that was charging at them. Guzzlord’s mandibles then stretched out and grabbing whatever poor Pokémon it could and would then shovel it into its black hole of a mouth.

All this while her Naganadel blasted whatever the Guzzlord didn’t catch with a Dragon Pulse, it wouldn't take long for them to clear the area of their attackers. 

”Looks like they’re intent on staying inside.” Eva said  as then looked back to the rest of their group. ”Alright then let’s go, we’re going inside.” The assistants picked up the gear and began following their head scientist and she and her ultra beast advanced forward.

”Come on, Marcel.”

Eva looked over to the admin, incredibly disinterested in responding to his inquiry but given the man’s relentless fraught she supposed it’d be better to respond and give him some sort of comfort before he questions her again.

”If your uneasy about confronting the invaders don’t be.” Eva began all while taking out a capsule from her coat and releasing the Ultra Beast from within.

”You are to provide support if need be. This is a training exercise to assess the combat abilities of the UBs in a more practical setting.” Combat tests against dummies and Pokémon belonging to random Grunts were a fine way to test how they would perform but the real thing was different.

”So any stragglers that manage to get by please feel free to step in and do away with them.” With that out of the way the scientist looked over to the Naganadel at her side, a bright smile on her face.

”Alright let’s get started then! Let’s give them a knock.” Eva pointed toward the entrance that leads deeper into Sea Mauville.

”Dragon Pulse.” The Ultra Beast let out a fierce cry before using its attack, the attack piercing straight through the entrance and causing a large explosion. Her goal was to lure them out so she could release the other UB resting inside a capsule in her coat, it was feeding time after all.

Reports of leftovers in the form of troops and Pokémon from the Megalopolan invasion had spread like wildfire throughout Hoenn, the league having dispatched many rangers and officers to deal with the problem.

Their attention was spread wide and thin leaving the occasional Megalopolan refuge undiscovered.

This led to a Rocket scout discovered a group of Megalopolan troops that made Sea Mauville their nest. When it was decided to further investigate and deal with the remaining invaders Eva had made the unusual decision to volunteer to join the team under the explanation of wanting firsthand experience of the Megalopolan troops and gathering samples.

The head scientist had brought a couple of her own assistants with them to Sea Mauville, once there they got busy setting up equipment that looked as if it was there to record something.

She had also insisted that the admin Marcel accompany here on this job, after all, it was one of his underlings that made this discovery and she’d much rather deal with him than one of his stooges.

”Preparations are complete on my end, Marcel.” She’d say to the admin, informing him that whatever her grunts were doing was done.

”Shall we get this started?”

”No we did not but after enough time with the creature we might be able to find a way to create our own.” Eva responded. It was a topic for another time and as of right there wasn’t much to even discuss given the limited data she had on hand.

Gavin’s concern had the merit to it, this Shadow Lugia was unlike any shadow Pokémon before it and its violent disposition was greatly intensified because of it.

She didn’t know what good came from venerating a Pokémon but she respected his curiosity but there was a bit of a problem.

”Given how we came to have Lugia in our possession I am afraid I can’t give you much of an answer.” Eva replied.

”The creature was already in a state of distress and agitation and the experiments that followed were about shadowfication so studying how the creature was in its natural state was not a high priority.” She’d further explain.

”The best I’d say you can use to glean that sort of information is whatever fairytales people have about the creature, maybe there’s some truth to it.” The scientist would shrug, not really believing in what she just said.

”Regardless its mental stability should be fine but if you do find yourself noticing any sort of decay or loss of control let me or Circe know and we can correct it.”
