The waiter lingers as Alexei question's Florian's choice. Florian wants nothing more than to sink into the floor, feeling very exposed and out of his element with both pairs on eyes on him. Joli's soft fur is but a small comfort.[break][break]

"I'm sure!" Perhaps he says it too quickly; the smile he flashes is just as quick. "It is what this place is known for, after all!"[break][break]

Thankfully, the waiter leaves the duo in peace after that, and Florian shoots Alexei a helpless look when he's once again asked about his choice. It's half-apology, half-uncertainty.[break][break]

"I-I just do not think I could eat! I would not want you to waste your money."

Joli has been trained to detect even the subtlest shifts in Florian's mood — and the rollercoaster of anxiety and uncertainty is far from subtle. The fairy-type leans against his trainer's calf and trills softly, tendrils tickling at the professor's elbow.

Florian drops the issue of the bill, choosing instead to focus on not crying as the soft, almost fluid fabric of the scarf winds through his fingers. He doesn't know what to say, and settles for nothing at all. He's left floundering in his own mixed emotions and is quick to look away from the waiter who approaches.[break][break]

His cheeks are red as Alexei addresses him. Had he been hungry, before? His appetite has vanished.[break][break]

"O-Oh, just the hot chocolate for me, thank you!"[break][break]

Besides, if Alexei was going to foot the bill, it was probably best that he make as little impact on it as possible...

Sixteen.

A long time ago, now. An age of figuring himself out, of discovery and fear. And not an age where he'd had Pokemon to call his own; had Alexei not called attention to it himself, the professor wouldn't have thought his story strange at all.[break][break]

Alexei leads the way to the Magikarp booth, and Florian adjusts the Sylveon mask to better see out of the eyeholes.[break][break]

"Yes," he confirms. "I was — in my twenties when I got Joli."[break][break]

The Sylveon trotting at his feet chirps at the sound of his name.[break][break]

Unbeknownst to Alexei, Florian's journey had started late for more reasons than one — but he's content to accept Alexei's convenient explanation, nodding along as if to confirm it.[break][break]

"Is it very difficult?" he asks of the Magikarp game, watching a father-and-son try their hand. His smile is coy. "Perhaps you should show me."

Florian's indignant expression does not properly transfer to his in-game avatar, but the sharpness of his tone carries over the mic.[break][break]

"I have type advantage!" he snaps. "That is why I attacked so much; did I not also keep all of us alive?"[break][break]

Though he's on Valerio's side, he does turn some of his frustration toward the warrior as the two bicker back and forth. "They were not useless. We all did our parts."[break][break]

And he will continue to do his: his aura flashes with brilliant colour as his ability continues to activate, doing its best to rid the warrior of the stacking status effects. Valerio's paralysis seems to kick in at that moment, and Florian mutes his mic before uttering a soft curse. It would be their luck, wouldn't it? Though he was sure Valerio had every intention of pursuing the ranger, the healer would only give chase if it proved necessary.[break][break]

Life dew continues to shower the pair with healing energy, undoing what damage the other had done.

Florian's slowed down in his obsession with the game, pretty much only logging in to play with Alexei. However, even on days where his boyfriend is unavailable, he does log in to check on the sword in the stone.[break][break]

There are plenty of spots left, and he thinks it would be cool to be crowned a king of something![break][break]

This time, Florian is better prepared to dodge the high-jump kick of an incoming Medicham.[break][break]

He twirls out of the way, giggling as the mob crashes into the ground and causes its own health bar to drain in place of Leafae's. Medicham does surprise him with a hidden power, sending an icy blast that chills in his bones.

A draining kiss is enough to take this mob out as easily as the last, though he does make note to take care of surprising moves.

"I am fine!" Florian chirps back, raising his voice to be heard over the howling blizzard. He's reassured by the sound of the other's voice, having started to worry that they might lose each other in the haze of white. "Technology is frightening."[break][break]

Thankfully, Florian had the forethought to purchase some cold-resistant gear before heading out into the icy depths of Nixtorm. His robes were lined with a soft fur, and he barely felt the biting chill except on his reddened cheeks.[break][break]

"We should really set up a campfire, though..."[break][break]

They wouldn't be able to keep one lit in the middle of a blizzard, not without finding some form of shelter against the wind. The healer lifts his twisted stave and casts a twister into the storm, dragging some of the snow into its depths and offering a slight increase in visibility.

While his Twisted Stave was, in his opinion, not as pretty as the knotted wooden staff that he'd started with, Florian decides to trade in aesthetics for power. Having access to a move-type that not a lot of things resisted was really useful![break][break]

He gets a little distracted customizing his avatar to match the new look, unfortunately, which is his reason for running late. He forgets to check the clock and so its only when he finally exits out of the shop with all his purchases made and his robes coloured in a beautiful autumn aesthetic to match the colour of the staff that he realises how long it's been.[break][break]

"Alexei! I'm so sorry!"[break][break]

The healer runs across the desert sands to meet up with his boyfriend, spamming the apologetic emote.

The blonde ranger rightfully calls him out for his misdirected frustrations, and Florian's cheeks redden in reality. Leafae simply stands idle between the activation of his abilities, blinking his multi-coloured eyes.[break][break]

"Ah, you are right, I'm sorry." Frustration still spikes in his tone, though it's no longer directed at the ranger. When Florian glances around to look at the other, he sees that he's disappeared from both the party and the map. Assuming him to have logged out, Florian is quick to redirect his attention to their fight. It was now a 2v1, much more advantageous for the warrior.[break][break]

Barcode tells him to stay out of it, and Florian is indignant.[break][break]

"You let him carry you through the dungeon and then attacked him! That concerns me!"[break][break]

It's just a video game, but Florian can't stand rude people or opportunists that took advantage of others![break][break]

The warrior is still missing a decent chunk of his health, so Florian continues to focus on healing. He taps his staff against the ground, casting another shower of life dew over the pair of them. His aura flashes pink, this time flashing twice in an attempt to rid Valerio of the punishing conditions.

"This game is really bringing many people together, isn't it?" A warmth floods Florian's tone; he's a real sap, and the thought of most of Hoenn dropping their individual hobbies and quirks to unite in a video game is touching to him. "I imagine your would-be challengers are playing too, ha!"[break][break]

He knows of at least a few people in the challenge circuit that play this game.[break][break]

Zimavich is far more coy than Leafae, and Florian quietly fawns over his boyfriend's shyness. The other plays with his avatar's hair, and he can't help but to wonder how nice it would be if this were real life, if they were—[break][break]

"Hm?"[break][break]

He's drawn out of his thoughts by Alexei's stumbling half-question, resulting in a confused look on Florian's face in reality. There's no perfect emote for the occasion, so he simply chooses one that causes his avatar to tilt his head and grip his chin in a questioning manner.[break][break]

"What is it, darling?" As he didn't have any question in his mind about the status of their relationship, he doesn't catch on to what the other is trying to ask. He smiles, and Leafae brushes a hand against Zimavich's cheek. "You are very flustered! Take your time."

His Sylveon is incredibly unhappy with the amount of time his master is spending on this game. Admittedly, Florian does feel a little silly when he logs into Valora for another attempt at the sword and has to pause for a moment when the cheeky fairy-type nips his calf.[break][break]

"All right, darling, all right! I will take your hint and not play as much today, but I need to do this first!"[break][break]

He doesn't know if Joli gets the picture or not, but he doesn't waste any time today. He strides up to the sword with clear purpose and pulls as hard as he can.
