Florian can't help but to giggle at Kyle's confusion, hand coming up to cover his mouth. But there's a certain friendliness to him, a warmth in his eyes to suggest that his laughter carried no ill intent.

"Ah, my apologies! I have only recently moved from Kalos; old habits are hard to break, no?"

His accent is still heavy with Kalosian influence, tone soft and lilting.

"Well, it is certainly an impressive collection." He doesn't think he's ever seen this many dogs in one place before! There's another Sylveon, as well, one whom Joli seems to have taken a keen interest in. Florian's own interests are drawn toward one of the Arcanine, hand coming up to stroke the majestic beast's fluffy neck before the professor turns to Kyle and dips his head. He'd noticed the phone in the mans hand and assumes he might have accidentally interrupted something important. "I shall leave you to your business, then. Thank you, again!"

With that, he wanders off to check out more of the square.

ooh, shiny! (catch)

As they rest by the water, Florian perching on a large rock and Laverre taking a drink from the pond, a small white blur in the snow catches his attention.[break][break]

There's a little Vulpix playing nearby, pouncing on snowflakes. At first, he's captivated merely by how cute it is, but when it dares to get a little closer in pursuit of its chilly prey, Florian's almost certain there's something... different about it.[break][break]

He's reminded of a moment years ago, when he was just starting out in his field. He'd seen a Florges in the wild with leaves that were purple instead of green, the same way that this Vulpix had beautiful lavender eyes. He thinks its fur has a most subtle hint of colour, as well, letting it stand out just enough against the stark white snow behind.[break][break]

He'd left the Florges alone. She had clearly not wanted to be disturbed, and he had honoured that. But this Vulpix is curious, coming right up to Joli and bumping its little nose against his, sneezing as a snowflake lands on the tip of it.[break][break]

"Hello, darling," he coos, and holds his hand out to beckon it closer. It hesitates a moment before stepping up to the professor and sniffing his hand, cold little nose bumping against it. Florian smiles and begins to stroke the creature's fur, giggling when it rolls over to present its belly for ample rubbing. "You are very beautiful, my dear. I have another Vulpix I'm sure would love a friend."[break][break]

He hadn't bonded much with said Vulpix yet, having acquired it during this same venture, but what Pokemon didn't appreciate a member of its own kind for company?[break][break]

He rubs Vulpix under her chin, his other hand procuring his last safari ball to offer up.[break][break]

i'll post again after you to try and catch the Snubbull if that's all right; felt inorganic to try and work it in with a serious moment!

"I will do it all, if I can! Catch them, study them... I am simply fascinated by fairies as a whole. I think I can blame my Joli for that," he admits, and the Sylveon gives a cheeky little trill and a flash of his tiny fangs.[break][break]

The way her eyes shine as Annie glances at his Pokedex, she's like a kid on Christmas who's just been told Delibird's delivered everything they wanted. Sure, a lot of people are fascinated by the technology, but there's a spark in her that Florian appreciates.[break][break]

"Young professor, ah?" He grins at the thought. He'd actually forgotten that Jonquille was nestled in his hair, the Comfey giving a soft cry of greeting when it's indicated by the strange girl. "A good hypothesis. But every professor needs a Pokedex, no?"[break][break]

He'd received this one years ago, shortly after acquiring his then-Eevee from a support program. He supposed most kids in Hoenn got them with their Mudkip and Treecko, the same as Kalosian youth with their Fennekin and Froakie, but his circumstances had been unusual. There's a small crack in the corner of the screen but as it's only an aesthetic flaw, he could never bring himself to replace the old thing with one of the newer ones he had in his backpack. It was special to him.[break][break]

He pulls out one of said Pokedexes now, holds the power button until it turns on and beeps. It looks exactly like his own, in the traditional Kalosian style, except there's no crack on the screen and no entries are logged when the screen lights up.[break][break]

He holds it out to Annie.[break][break]

"I don't get to give out Pokedexes very often," he says, with a quiet smile. "It is yours, if you want it."

They pass Starmie, again, and Florian thinks they're going in circles. Was that the same one from earlier? The pond in which it resided looked quite similar, and, well... Starmie were difficult to tell apart, if he was being honest.[break][break]

"Laverre, sweetheart, could you stop for a moment?"[break][break]

Rapidash tosses her mane with a snort as she halts, and Florian dismounts to squint at the snow. New flakes had since fallen to replace and cover the old, and so the footprints were shallow and nearly invisible, but... yes, this was somewhere they'd been before.[break][break]

He laughs.[break][break]

"I guess the fright from that Voltorb's got us all turned around. Oh well! We'll have a break, here, Laverre. Perhaps you should get some of that water, you must be thirsty."

Poor Spheal was so oblivious that it didn't notice it was rolling straight toward a wall until it slammed into it with a soft thunk, drawing the attention of both Florian and his over-curious Vulpix. The latter pulls her head out from the drift she'd been playing in and shakes her head to clear it of snow before bounding over to the stunned seal, Florian following more carefully and taking care not to step on a slick patch of ice.[break][break]

"Are you OK, little one?"[break][break]

It certainly looks all right, recovering from its daze and rolling into a sitting position with a gentle cry. It seemed that its thick fat had allowed it to escape mostly unscathed, and the professor smiles as he watches Aurora bound up to her new friend with a series of excited yips.[break][break]

Florian watches for a while as they play together; snow has already been falling as a result of Aurora's snow warning, but the Spheal adds her own hail to the mix. It's a little unpleasant to be pelted with tiny bullets of ice, but he's a good enough sport not to complain. The Pokemon were having fun, after all.[break][break]

When the chill finally seeps through his many layers, Florian calls for Aurora to get going, but feels bad upon seeing how disappointed the little Spheal looks to be losing her company.[break][break]

"You can come with us, if you'd like," he offers. He pulls a Pokeball from his bag and rolls it through the snow toward the dual-type to make his intentions clear. "I don't mind."

Florian's on a walk with his newly-acquired Vulpix when she suddenly perks up in excitement over something he can't see or smell—

—but he hears it, that's for certain, the barking of dozens of dogs and the general hum of excitement from a certain direction. Having had no goal in mind but to let Aurora stretch her legs, the professor shakes his head with a fond smile.

"All right, darling, we'll go investigate."

Aurora leads the way, tails twitching as she bounds into the throng of other dogs and gets lost within the crowd. Florian's not too worried; he has her Pokeball, if she doesn't return to him quickly. Her own snow warning adds a flurry of flakes to those already falling from the sky, one settling on the tip of Florian's nose. Winter is a gorgeous season, in spite of the cold.

He's too new to Hoenn to recognize kyle lopez on sight, but Florian acknowledges the fact that he seems to be leading this whole event. After wandering off to find a suitable ornament, Florian hangs an adorable little Togekiss bauble wearing a Santa hat upon the tree. It reminds him of his Juliette, and he smiles.

"Thank you for organizing this, monsieur," he says to Kyle, still smiling. "You certainly have — a lot of dogs."

That was... an understatement, to be sure, but certainly not a bad thing!

i lost this post and had to rewrite the whole thing, so if the quality seems off... :sob:

Here's the thing: Florian hates the cold.[break][break]

Unfortunately for the professor, he loves ice-types. They're gentle, beautiful, and usually quite rare in Hoenn; these days, with the unusual snows, he'd been seeing them a lot more than expected.[break][break]

Still, it's in the depths of Shoal Cave he finds himself that morning, shivering in the cold despite his extra layers. His ugly holiday sweater was concealed beneath a thick jacket, a scarf was pulled up to his chin, and he tugs his hat down to cover sensitive ears as a chill wind blows through the cave.[break][break]

"At least one of us is having fun, no?"[break][break]

There's no malice in his tone as he watches his Vulpix, the ice-type wagging her tails and yipping in excitement as she plays in a snowdrift. Joli trills in agreement, the Sylveon's little paws protected by the hand-knit boots his trainer had made for him.

Laverre slows to a walk, the Rapidash far too stubborn to come to a complete stop even if she sorely needs a break after their run from the Voltorb. Florian knows better than to pester her too much; she was a temperamental gal, and he was working on strengthening their bond, not making her hate him![break][break]

They pass another Phantump, and Florian watches it slowly drift out of sight.[break][break]

"There are a lot of them out today!" he observes as he absentmindedly scratches Sylveon behind the ears. There were quite a few Voltorb, as well, but he was less warmly inclined toward the spherical menace. They just liked to explode too much. He'd be afraid to get close! "We will leave them alone, I think. I would not want our dear friend to think he had been replaced, after all."[break][break]

His former Phantump-turned-Trevenant wouldn't know it had been 'replaced', of course, but it would weigh on the fragile conscience of the researcher, for sure.
