blastoise was her choice. The water pokemon materialized into the water, making a huge splash as he sunk down to the endless blue.[break][break]

Bailey pulled down her goggles, not sure how to admit that she had never dived before. She had been given a brief overview by a guide a few years ago, but as she fitted the breathing apperatus, there was a moment of fear as she tried to recall how the rebreather functioned.[break][break]

Oh well, if she needed air, Turtonator could just bring her back up.[break][break]

She dove into the water, flinching at the onset of cold that consumed her. Even if hoenn experienced mild winters, the waters were still effected.[break][break]

She grasped her Blastoise by the forearm, letting him do the swimming as they followed after Perse and the rainbow glow of her Milotic.

“It's Bailey! Bailey Cooper!” The pokenger girl barked as “Dawn” made his retreat.[break][break]

She would huff her next breath, breathing like a Tauros ready to charge. Her only refraint was the fact that she was in public, and that she was expected to conduct herself. Something about professionalism. Something about living up to the police badge she still carried.[break][break]

When she'd turn to Fernando, it was hard to clense the anger. “Can you believe these dumbasses? All fucking day I've been listenin' to this shit. All fuckin' day. Minute I get my hands on that scrawny little journalist, I'll wring the life outta him.”[break][break]

People were staring. She ran a hand against her forehead, pushing back her bangs and sucking in oxygen with the hopes of grounding herself.[break][break]

It just gave her fire more fuel.[break][break]

She rubbed her temples, already feeling a headache. “Of all the fucking things to report, they report about this.”

“I dunno—I thought you knew the places around here,” and Bailey doesn't feel the car move, telling her that there was a lull. Was he checking his weird watch?[break][break]

She rubbed her eyes, contemplating how much longer she could keep this going. “Awhile longer, I guess,” but there was no definitive anwser. [break][break]

“I'm done drinking for the night,” because she was at her threshold, teetering on the edge that she reguarly found herself standing at.[break][break]

When a blink lingered for longer than she would have liked, she felt a wave of relief—long gone was the fire that burned so deep where she couldn't scratch. Long gone was the foul mood that refused to release her.[break][break]

Right now, she was lost in the present, and free from troubles that would only amplify.

She could feel his distress.[break][break]

“Chill, chill, I'm not gonna puke,” and she gave a reassuring thumbs up as her eyes rolled up to the ceiling, where everything was bland and gray. “I woulda done it already.”[break][break]

That was the nice thing about owning a motorcycle. If she needed to puke, all she needed to do was look away from the bike. No clean-up necessary.[break][break]

But she had never been sick on her bike before—or drunk. That was just negligent.[break][break]

“Is this gonna be a long drive? No, not cause I'll puke,” and somehow, her fears of the self-driving car seemed to be worlds away as she stretched. “Know how long it's been since I slept in a made bed? Awhile.”[break][break]

There was a pause. “Uh, that sounded more fucked up than it should have.”

There was a reason she was dressed casual.[break][break]

People knew her by the jacket. They could pinpoint her from a mile away if they could see that rim of tuffed fur latched to leather—and she wanted to avoid that. She wanted to blend in.[break][break]

Because the HNN had become the newest terror to plague her life. Her face, plastered with that masked vigilanttee, followed her unrelentingly. Kids would run up to her, holding out that offensive banner for her signiture. People were “shipping,” and she didn't even know what that fucking meant.[break][break]

She had never sailed a day in her life.[break][break]

When Fernando extended a hand, she took it. Rising up from the ground, she took the chance to brush the dirt from her knees. “I was just making a pit stop. Gotta get to Fallarbor later today for some training.” The usual. The more secluded the location, the better. At Fallarbor, she could head into the mountain range and find peace.[break][break]

But there was no peace to be found in Mauville.[break][break]

“Huh?” Her eyes switched to the newcomer, realizing that her whistle might have been a mistake. If she wanted to avoid the general public, that had not been a smart move.[break][break]

But Bailey Cooper was not very smart.[break][break]

“Um.” God, not today. “Excuse me, but who the hell are y—”[break][break]

And then that name. That damned name of that vigillantee.[break][break]

“Hell the fuck no,” and she shot it down with a gutteral growl, knowing better than to spiral into the same tiraid that got her banned from that website to begin with. “I don't even know the jackoff.”

“What'd you say?” Fernando's comment went unheard as Bailey snapped from her own little world.[break][break]

She glanced in his direction, but her surroundings were blurred. Like looking through an adjustable lense, it took a moment for her eyes to focus. She gave them a rub, wondering if the pressure would alleviate the symptom. It did not, but it did make her eyelids feel heavy.[break][break]

Safer than Hoenn? “That's... uh... not sayin' much,” but previous fears are forgotten in the haze of liquid courage as she opened the door to the backseat, opting out of shotgun.[break][break]

In the back row, she could stretch out her legs and rest her head against the window; the glass felt cool against her face. “Beep boop,” and she laughed, unable to explain why it was so funny. “Beep boop it's Coop.”[break][break]

Her ribs ached from the proceeding laughter. In the sealed space of the car, there was nowhere for the noise to go. "Fuckin' ridiculous!"[break][break]

His comment would snap her from the fit, almost sobering her for that brief flash of time.[break][break]

“Man, I'm fine. But maybe... uh... roll down the window to get some air,” and she knew that if she let her gaze wander from the confines of the car, she would be taken over by nausea.

“Roller coaster sounds nice,” and Bailey Cooper would grasp the push bar to Lucas' wheelchair, hastily pushing him along before a crowd could form and swallow them in it.[break][break]

She shoves hard, steering like a man woman as she speeds down one of the empty streets to get to the amusement rides. “Uh, magikarp can jump over mountains, right? You're a scientist,” as if that would anwser her question. “You can just... drop 'em, yeah?”[break][break]

But she knew that Goldeen was just a golden smear on the pavement.

the mascot ears were stupid, but oddly cute.[break][break]

bailey cooper poked at the headband, watching how one of the ears refused to stand fully upright. After waiting in line for the last twenty minutes, they were finally allowed entry to the amusement park.[break][break]

“so, yeah. I won the tickets in a raffle,” and somehow, Lucas Lane had been the first person she decided to invite. Poor guy was riding around league headquarters in a wheel chair—it seemed like he needed something to brighten his day.[break][break]

She passed him his own headband. “what's on the agenda? Anything you wanna do first?”

the luvdisc were trapped, somewhere deep in the clear blue sea that bailey cooper gazed into.[break][break]

“I mean, at least they won't drown,” because they were fish.[break][break]

She struggled to pull up the zipper to her wet suit, having to bend her arm at an odd angle to reach down her back to grasp at the small piece of metal. The angle was so strange that she can feel her elbow throb, reminding her of the metal plates that had been adorned to the joint after the madness of mossdeep.[break][break]

The dinky fishing boat that had brought them out to open water swayed, easily disturbed by the swell of the waves.[break][break]

She glanced over to perse. “We good to dive?” A pokeball was already clenched in her hand, ready to deploy a water-type to help her navigate the depths.

And like that, time was almost up.[break][break]

Bailey was surprised by how fast it had passed, but that was supposed to be the point, right? Get people interested, but not bored. Those thoughts revolved in her mind as Chubs happily accepted the treats from Pulse, gingerly taking the treat with care to not let his tusks nick the normal-type.[break][break]

“Yeah—he was one of the first pokemon I caught. He never wanted to fight, and I never made him,” and he had stuck to her side ever since.[break][break]

She smiled, knowing that times had been both good and bad, but that the spheal helped to make them better. “I'd ask about your Audino, but I think we're already short on time—sorry, I feel like I spent most of the time talking about myself.”[break][break]

Violet eyes raised to Thomas' gaze, void of the violence that so often came to her stare in the midst of battle. Off the battlefield, away from the all-consuming heat that she chased, Bailey Cooper could have pretended to be a normal woman, out on a simple date.[break][break]

But never for long. The pangs were always eager to sink beneath the skin, chewing into flesh like fangs the moment she dropped her guard.[break][break]

“Tell me about your little friend the next time we get the chance to chat, okay?” and it was time to switch.[break][break]

A pause. “And, uh... good luck.”

“Yeaaaah, no offense, but I wasn't gonna put myself through that,” and the thought of someone prodding the recesses of her mind was enough to coax a shudder. There were creatures that lurked in the mind of Bailey Cooper, and they all held power that was world reckoning. That was what emerged from a woman that had fought with monsters.[break][break]

She covetted her fears and tucked them under the rug, just so she could stand on top of them. It felt better, that way.[break][break]

“I try to stay on the beat—spend most of my week in Slateport before I swing by Evergrande. I'm a cop, first and foremost. I think the most good can be done on the ground, ya'know? Being with the Elite Four seems like a natural extension of that. I don't buy into the bullshit top-down approach,” nor did she fully understand it, but that was none of her concern.[break][break]

Chubs would beam at the praise. “He's my biggest fan,” and he would “waaaa” in agreement. “And I'm his.”

She caught his eye.[break][break]

Trepidation held her tongue, making her mouth dry as Bailey forced a smile. Just as this was akward for Thomas, it was awkward for her. Ghosts refused to rest, and a year still felt too soon as she rose from her seat to accept his hand. Guilt was not a rational emotion, and she has to command for it to die.[break][break]

She helped save a fucking city—if she wanted to get dressed up and go on a date, she damn well should.[break][break]

“Hey Benoit. I thought the next time we'd see each other, we'd be having a rematch,” because tying the conversation to battling felt familiar, and far more comforting than acknowledging their setting.[break][break]

She took his hand, giving a gentle shake—the moment she extended it, Chubs seemed to teeter against the milkshake and almost make it topple. His insatiable thirst was only paused at the arrival of Thomas' companion, drawing a friendly cry as the spheal greeted the Audino with frantic wavings of his flippers.[break][break]

Bailey almost felt the same as the unsettled glass, watching the contents slosh almost to the rim.[break][break]

It was why she took her seat, just to take the weight off of her feet. “You're looking sharp,” and that was just filler that spilled from her lips as her mind raced to find a topic. They didn't have long to talk. “How's the gym?”[break][break]

Back to something familiar. She smiled to the Audino, tilting her head to the milkshake.
