Thea's mouth parts in genuine surprise as she watches the Sylveon take the ghost-type sneak attack but simultaneously copy it. And she does it perfectly, replicating the way Drifblim's tendrils slam her. Neither of them are prepared for the phantom force to be turned around on them, and the Drifblim is slammed to the ground. [break][break]

The impact is rough, causing the ground to tremble just a bit as the hot-air balloon Pokemon crashes to the ground. She deflates a bit, recovering her momentum before slowly floating back into the air. Dirt drops from her smooth surface and Thea blinks, thinking quickly.[break][break]

"Strength sap."[break][break]

And then, once again, the Drifblim aims to use her speed to get close to the Sylveon. The intention is to coil her arms around the evolution Pokemon like a vice. Should it be successful, her arms would glow as she absorbed a portion of the Sylveon's attack power to replenish her health.

Where June and her hounds approach and explore with caution, Thea walks with fearless confidence. Her hands rest against the front of her dress, folded neatly over one another. The soft click of her heels sounds almost eerie given the stillness of the building. [break][break]

"Yes, children. Ghosts often revert to childish antics and personality traits - they like to prank and play tricks. Is that not childish?"[break][break]

But they are also innocent, unable to see past their own mischief. They are very much akin to children.[break][break]

Thea would continue peeking into empty rooms and moving on, up until June's Boltund lunged forward with ferocity. She can practically see the electricity crackling at his paws as he storms into the nearby room.[break][break]

Anticipation creeps along the woman's skin in the form of goosebumps. The air has grown considerably colder as they approach.[break][break]

However, just as she's about to step into the room after June, a desk is thrown against the wall near the door. Whatever is here appears to be angry instead of mischievous. It encourages a worried line between her eyebrows.[break][break]

"They're upset about something - they don't normally lash out with such violence unless there's a reason."[break][break]

And yet, what reason could there be for this? Both of them were newcomers to this place, without attachments. There was no reason for them to be under such fire.

The response tumbles from her mouth before she has a chance to actually hear what he's just said. Thea's eyes search his expression for any note of insincerity or mockery - but she finds none. His face is honest, his words replicating that. [break][break]

Her cheeks burn and she leans back, drawing her hands away from their casual position on the table and closer to her lap should he let them.[break][break]

"That's.. that's very kind of you to say."

Thea chuckles out loud at that, nodding in appreciation. She, too, liked hard work. Although her work was usually less strenuous physically than Iris could possibly be, she could see the appreciation for it.[break][break]

"'Idle hands are the devil's workshop', isn't that how the saying goes? I can appreciate enjoying hard work. Keeps you focused."[break][break]

But she blinks at the girls next question, peeling her eyes away from the wondrous view to gaze upon Iris' face with soft curiosity.[break][break]

"I'm a teacher. I educate the little ones specifically, help them get a grasp on the real world with patience and kindness. Sounds easier than it is."[break][break]

Another soft chuckle.[break][break]

"I teach at the Pokemon Academy in Lilycove city."

He leans closer and she feels herself suck in an unconscious breath at the strange intimacy of their moment. But it's his words that surprise her the most. Perhaps they also amuse her in some way.[break][break]

There's a surprising amount of confidence that stems from Thea's posture. It seems unlike her given her position as teacher. It wasn't always a requirement for teachers to know or have experience in the field that they teach - and Thea wasn't really educating her kindergarten students on the best tactics for competitive battling. [break][break]

Even still, she seemed to know what she was doing, as if this was practiced and she had absolute faith in her abilities.[break][break]

That, and the way her Drifblim dominates the field suggests something similar as well.[break][break]

Thea is notably surprised, however, when the hyper voice connects. The Drifblim lets out a sharp cry of equal surprise as the pixilated hyper voice strikes her despite the speed at her sails. Thea herself is even thrown off by the verbal assault, one hand raising to her ears, one eye closing as she winces.[break][break]

"Phantom force."[break][break]

Drifblim disappears then, vanishing from sight as her ghost-typing takes care of her physical shape. When she does reappear, she comes in with a vengeance, aiming to strike the Sylveon from behind. While she had deflated as a result of the attack, she had time to reinflate before her own retaliation.

Thea cracks open her own bottle, reclining on one hand as she observes her surroundings and takes a generous sip of her water. The warmth of it from being tucked in her bag is slightly off-putting, but she appreciates it nonetheless.[break][break]

Whether she catches the flush in Iris' cheeks and relates it back to its true source is unclear - she never addresses it. Instead, she offers a polite smile before re-capping her drink and storing it back in her pack. The woman sighs, thumb worrying at a rough spot on the rocky ledge she sits on.[break][break]

"I bet. The life of a ranger is hard work, I can only imagine."[break][break]

She, meanwhile, often only got whatever exercise was offered from wearing heels day in and day out. The life of a private school teacher was hardly exhausting in the physical department - just mentally and emotionally.

Thea glances at his flourishing hand, ultimately dismissing his bravado. Normally such action she would consider over-confidence, but in this case, she regards it as pride. And it was alright to be proud of one's accomplishments, especially after coming so far.[break][break]

She, too, finishes her coffee while it's still warm. If she'd wanted a cold coffee she'd have asked for it iced after all.[break][break]

However, when she glances back up to see him, Lance has subtly leaned himself in a little bit closer. What surprises her more is his similar mindset. It reads almost identical to the one she had personally, throwing her off-guard.[break][break]

"I.. I agree, wholeheartedly. It's better to start late than to start too early."

Her cheeks involuntarily flare with colour at his approach. The concept of seeing him again had been a recurring thought, but she was floored at how easily he had suggested it. She swallows, choosing not to respond - though her blush is answer enough.[break][break]

Thea watches as Lance lifts his cup to his lips, watches as he shifts under her gaze, as he revels in her attention. He's quite the charmer and he clearly knows what he's doing.[break][break]

Those strange and bubbling feelings are quickly snuffed by surprise. [break][break]

"That's impressive."[break][break]

But honestly, she had become a voice as of late to push up-and-coming trainers to leave when they were ready, not because they felt they had to. She felt more comfortable letting them start their journeys at sixteen or even as adults rather than such a young child.

Thea's eyes narrow slightly, her body reclines. He phrases the statement in a way that might have sounded insincere or joking. But she's adept enough at reading people to know that he's serious. Her hypothesis is solidified when he elaborates.[break][break]

"I'm sure there are other teachers in the academy who could help her. I appreciate the offer, but I don't know you and your involvement would be inappropriate."[break][break]

She sips her coffee slowly.[break][break]

"And I'm not sure I believe you, either, Lance. You don't seem the timid and shy type."

Thea had been pleasantly surprised to hear from Kosuke outside of her visits to his shop. Up until now, they had only had the occasional conversation - usually when she borrowed or purchased a book. Otherwise, she kept her distance and remained indifferent and otherwise 'unfriendly', if that were even possible for her.[break][break]

It also humbled her that he had even noticed what she had been studying. On occasion, Thea was assigned to help educate older students in the art of actual battle. It had been some time since she'd last battled, so brushing up on aggressive techniques via research had been helpful. But this exercise would be far more beneficial than merely reading about it in a book.[break][break]

"I appreciate this, Kosuke. It's... very kind of you."[break][break]

She offers a small smile, but her expression turns far more pointed and severe - concentration masking the typical sweetness that she often portrays. A large Drifblim hovers next to her, its arms dangling lifelessly at its side. Thea watches as the light screen shimmers in and out of sight in front of the Sylveon.[break][break]

"Start with tailwind, Eva."[break][break]

The Drifblim does as she is bid, gathering the wind in her sails, so to speak, and boosting her speed considerably.

There's a faraway look in his eyes and Thea observes it quietly. For a moment, she muses over where he's gone, even while she speaks. Reading faces, emotions behind the closed doors of one's eyes.. it's something she's become good at. Children are easier to read, their faces and intentions unable to hide anything. Adults are difficult, practiced. [break][break]

"I--"[break][break]

She makes the effort to assure him that she isn't lying, but he's pressuring her to admit a name. He's grinning and her attention is drawn to it, to his charisma, to his allure.[break][break]

For a moment, then, she hesitates, suddenly aware of how she doesn't want to disappoint him. He's looking for an answer, somehow, he's been able to see through her own practiced, perfected facade. How?[break][break]

"Lily. She's timid and shy - but it's the shy ones who show the most promise. She's excelled at every lesson except the hands-on."
